‘You don’t know my name, so how can you tell me I have an open warrant?’ - This Harris County, Texas officer tried to arrest a Black father in front of his own home after incorrectly identifying him as a suspected criminal from another state.
» Subscribe to NowThis: go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe
In Harris County Texas news today, a police officer arrested the wrong man and it was all caught on camera. In this example of racial profiling, Harris County law enforcement approached a Black father outside his home mistaking him for a suspected criminal from Louisiana. Police officers getting owned is not a common sight but these cops (Harris country Texas) were wrong this time. One could argue that this racial profiling short film shows that Black lives matter and more law enforcement training is need to eradicate police bias.

And for the department to side with their officer here and do nothing about it after its all caught on video .... victim blaming this guy because he wouldn't show any ID. And, according to Texas.gov's website, it states: "Texas law only requires that you show your ID to a police officer under certain circumstances. These circumstances include: after you've been arrested, when you are driving, and when you are a License to Carry holder carrying a handgun." .... this dude was apparently sitting in his own front yard minding his own business when this cop rolled up. So legally he doesn't have to provide it. Now - that doesn't mean he couldn't have just done so to get this assclown cop to leave him alone. lol I understand he felt it was within his right not to have to divulge that randomly for Barney Fife over here .... but I'd also weigh the ridiculousness and the headache this caused him! Not to mention the obvious too - being a black man in America in a confrontation with a cop!! 0_o

As a black South American man it always confuses me when I see how Americans purposely escalate simple situations into an arrest or a shootout. In South Africa if the Police or Traffic cops ask you for your ID you wip it out as fast as you can.They don't ask you twice,once is more than enough. I sometimes get it out before they even ask for it. It's called WISDOM and it's never let me down.

yeah but when news makes it seem like this is a racial problem, nothing will get solved. this happens to me and I'm white, it's a joke that they say this has anything to do with the color of his skin.. actually in this case it is how he is acting, and you can have white skin and act like this, if you want to say this is black behavior, fine.... but this happens to white people and saying this is racial is not going to show the real problem.
@mohdazroybinahmadorange515

@@seawaterjohnmiller7118 Well, to be fair, this scene if we look at it at the judge view, yes i do aggree that this is not a racial problem but more like an individual or a characteristics problem, which is, the cop behaviour is somewhat *"not"* at the level that one should have being an officer. Some people just doesnt have the quality to be a good cop kinda argument. Yeah i aggree. But, at the same time, from the society viewpoint, its also being one of the main reason tho, i mean, this racial profiling thing among the cops. It certainly do and can happen to anybody, but often than not, just because *"not being white"* can cause u more problem than it should be. U shouldnt deny this reality. Coz it is so. Racial profiling is real. And thats a fact. Like i said, being white doesnt makes u safe from these kinda scene but then its way too obvious the differences between a white and a black person in comparisson of getting one. I mean come on, black or brown man can easily being cuffed just by standing still in his own yard in a whites neighbourhood area. White people can just hit 911 and say *"theres a black man standing suspiciously infront of my house"* even tho that black man just stand still on his own property doing his bussines.. and for sure the police will cuff him up real quick. But its not the case for the white people tho?? No?? I mean come on, u will not see a video where a white man got denied to eat at any restaurant just because theyre white. But u will definitely see every now and then where blacks got treated bad, worst, inhumanely. Just because. And that's a fact.

It's not "someone", it's the police. I don't know, how it works in the USA, but normally, if someone is suspected to be a criminal, the police of course can come to his/her home to interview or even arrest him/her ... But, first of all, there has to be a REASONABLE suspicion!

Gu Baby... it's very traumatic... I was shaking as I watched the video. The images and emotion in his and his wife's voices brought back an old surpressed child hood memory of my first experience with cops. In the 70's, I was about 15, 2 cops came to our house while we were in our yard and tried to arrest my 17 year old brother. My mom was crying and my Dad was trying to calmly (he was angry and scared) convince the cops they had the wrong person. The cops would not listen they just kept walking my brother toward the cop car. My sisters and I were all crying and scared too. The cops had my 17 year old brother handcuffed and sitting in the squad car when my 20 year old brother came home. He suggested the cops run social security numbers using the first, last and middle names and quess what...the cops had the wrong person. I believe my older brother saved my 17 year old brother's life that day. (Why?) The cops were arresting my 17 year old brother because he had the same first and last name as the person they were looking for...the suspect had MURDERED a cop. If my older brother would not have come to visit that day I don't think my 17 year old brother would have survived the trip to the police station. My point is..that the trauma will last a LIFETIME for the victim and the family.

The man escalates the situation by refusing to provide ID to an officer who has reasonable suspicion that he is the person he is looking for. Giving the officer the ID would eradicate that reasonable suspicion and end this contact in about two seconds. But no, he has to refuse and right it, even though it is a legal detention since the officer has RAS. #3. The officer then cuffs him because he denied giving ID, which means he will be detained for further investigation since it is needed to determine if it the correct man. #4. What on Earth is racist about detaining a person who is the same race, the same gender, the same build, the same hair, the same age, the same weight, the same general description? Who TF else would you look for?! TL;DR The detention was legal. The man escalated the situation by refusing to identify himself and doing basically every single thing you aren't supposed to do including disobeying orders, resisting detention, among other things.

Even myself living in the U.S., I just show it and let the worst case scenario lay to rest. There’s no reason to escalate an argument and get into a potential fight when you know you aren’t in the wrong. Titus Robertson they really aren’t you foreigners are only shown the worst of our cops not the best let alone average.
@awickedtribe
@awickedtribe 4 жыл бұрын
@Titus Robertson Actually they aren't. There is some bad apples but the majority of the 900,000 Law Enforcement Officers out there are good, decent people doing a hard, stressful job they believe in. Unfortunately there are those who prefer to portray cops as racist, evil killers because hating cops is a lifestyle with them, with or without reason. Most of the videos of this ilk are misleading and misrepresenting what really happened. Break this scenario down to a pragmatic and probable situation. The cop has some reason to believe he has the right guy, or at least has a high sense of probability. As his job is to get bad guys he is going to investigate or if you will, confront the suspect. Morons will argue he wasn't the guy so the cop was out of line, but here's the weird thing... the cop doesn't have a clue who this guy is, doesn't even know him, so how can anyone presume his innocence? But he does have a suspicion which he has to act on, due to being sworn in and all to uphold the law, so he investigates. Instead of being cooperative the 'suspect' resists the situation and escalates it. If you were a cop in this situation, not knowing who you were dealing with, what would your natural reaction be to that resistance? 'Oh he's resisting so it can't be him'? or would your suspicion go up a notch? Most of the time the 'suspect' becomes combative and makes things worse then whines about it later. I'm pretty sure that had this guy become passive and follow directions this would have been over... no harm, no foul. What's out of control is the idiocy of those who need to make it more than what it is. Cops deal with stressful situations all day, every day from people who think the police should somehow automatically know someone is innocent. If you or someone you know was harmed by someone would you expect the police to drive around and ask everyone that fits the description of the perp 'Are you him?' then drive off if the person says 'no'? I think not, you would demand they do everything they can to find the perp. Just the fact that the cop is specific about the warrant, where it was from, says he was tipped off and there for a reason. Cops don't see every warrant, especially from another state. If the narrative about killer cops running roughshod and hunting down people were even half true there would be a lot more than a simple confrontation than this.
