As a paramedic this pisses me off. We can’t clear a pregnant woman and say that there is nothing wrong with the baby. We can check vital signs to make sure she is stable but vitals are a small fraction of the full picture. This cop needs to be fired and have his certifications revoked permanently

The husband missed multiple chances to repeat " withholding care of a pregnant woman ", to tell the paramedics that he and his wife needed to go to the ER and that the officer was using them in his game. There seems to be some misconception about fire and rescue units or EMTs. Yes they have medical training but are not doctors. So for this officer to tell her that she does not need to go to the ER since she was cleared by fire and rescue is irresponsible. These units do not have the advanced medical equipment that a hospital has, so it is always a good ideal to still see a doctor even if cleared by paramedics.

I’ve had two high risk pregnancies in addition to having suffered a fall toward the end of my first trimester/beginning of second trimester during my first pregnancy. I don’t know who would’ve kicked this officer’s backside first, my former Marine Corps mom, retired Marine Corps dad, my husband, or his somewhat elderly nurse of a mom. I hope this couple sued the piss out of both the police officers who were NOT working for their district (moonlighting on another company’s dime while disrespecting two citizens & their unborn child) along with fire & rescue who did NOT do their jobs. Everyone needs to learn that cops are not required to "protect and serve". A quick Google search - "The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that police have no specific legal obligation to protect citizens, unless there is a special relationship between an officer and an individual. Police have a general "public duty" to enforce the law, but they are not liable for failing to prevent harm to individuals. In other words, police officers are not legally obliged to risk their lives for the community they swore to protect."

When i was a child my brother was hit by a car in our little village many miles away from a hospital. The police were quick to arrive but refused to allow my parents to take him to the hospital and forced them to WAIT for an ambulance...which broke down. And still they refused to allow my parents to drive him to the hospital saying another ambulance was on the way...which then got a flat. Yet despite the need for "IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY CARE" they still made them wait until finally the 3rd ambulance also failed to arrive and by the time he was taken to the hospital he died. I have no 'Respect for Authority' when they make stupid decisions.

That is why you should never give information to the police unless you have a lawyer. Many times you do things that are actually not legal unbeknownst to you and you can dig your own hole unknowingly.
