I've had RX8's for 10 years,my current R3 for 7 of them,so there's not much I don't know..the knocking is the rear stationary bearing,meaning the motor needs a rebuild.As regards the battery,the ECU reads the voltage and below a certain point,it simply won't allow the car to crank.10W40 mineral oil,changed every 3K miles is the way many owners in the UK do it,as well as adding some quality pre-mix to the tank.On S1 cars,a SOHN adapter can be fitted which allows oil to be drawn from a separate tank,meaning lubricant like Idemitsu can be used,which is intended to burn in the engine.RX8's DO NOT flood easily! If they're started up for a short time,so they barely start to warm up,then are shut off and left for a lengthy period,that's when they are most likely to be flooded.

Randy.... im a huge Subie fan!! That WRX is fully loaded since its the Limited!! Id buy that car in a heartbeat as im a part of a few Subaru WRX/STI buy, sell trade groups and replacement parts for those cars can easily be had!! Those WRX, Especially the STI versions , are super fun to drive!! Love the rumble from that Boxer engine!! Also.... on Subarus.... they recommend you letting the engine warm up for about 4-5 minutes.... usually, the engine will idle high on cold start and idle itself down after the 4 or 5 min warm up!! #FlatLife

I worked on RX8s from the first day they came out. That particular RX8 has a sunroof. I've always said get one with the sunroof because after the engine goes bad you can turn it into a planter box. That's about all they're good for.

Randy im pretty sure the idle on the subaru is normal for it being cold. I've worked on a few of them and they ran the exact same way when the engine was cold

Randy you should get the subi.! It idles high for about 5 mins then it will drop down, nothing to worry about on it.

That noise cam from under the Car, i think there is something loose. This RX 8 is a good car, and a reminder for me, started watching you, when you bought your RX-8 back in the day and got in trouble selling them as a private person

It has passed its 'Pull Date' of 75,000 miles and has been neglected. The previous owner spent their money on a large exhaust tip instead of engine oil. Not really viable except as a spares car.

@@neilmurphy845 Yes, and it's a real shame when an otherwise great car attracts unsympathetic owners from new, because you just know that eight years later you start seeing more of the things at PullApart than on the highway. The basket cases include most BMWs, nearly all Audis and any car which is popular for widebody kit fans.

The problem is that these cars have always been previously thrashed by their earlier owners. They (the cars and the owners) age quickly and the process is not a pretty sight.

@@johnstedman4075 I agree, the cars are super nice when they are new. Although especially being a wrx, you're 100% right my money says the car was beat to piss for the past 110k miles and probably will need work soon. I could be wrong, although the old boxter engines don't handle the abuse at all.

Mazda engine noise sounds like an idler pully or throw out bearing,,, :-) engine sounds fine,,, could be ac clutch bearing also,,,, :-)

I learned that the hard way, years ago. I drive a car with only 75 hp. One day, my cousin rented a bmw m6 and i drove that too. That Power on wet streets even with all electronics on, wanted to go sideways. That power only on the back is almost undrivable.

They will come out from under you pretty easily. I have a current-gen GT.... and I want plenty of room and no obstacles before I'll let it loose. The back end comes loose without much provocation. There's a whole generation of truly fast cars from all the manufacturers now that will outrun about everything from the '60-70s. Combined with inexperience and crappy judgment, they're kinda scary.

the wrx is a very very hot car to have. there fun like you wouldn't believe. all subarus are notorious if the battery is only a little low they will not start. if it goes for a decent price you would be missing out in my opinion. keep up the great work.

I had a 2008 rx8, best handling car.... ever. If you add 5oz of synthetic oil to the gas, it will smooth out the engine. you have to drive it like you stole it.. and if all you know how to do is go in a straight line.... don't buy a mazda...stick to ford or dodge.

Mazda 8 could be a heat shield rattling or loss exhaust. Also noticed bottom pulls belt was not rotating properly. Belt on Pully tensioner was not rotating properly. Wobbling.

That Sonic had front end collision. Hood, bumper and fender are way off alingment and bondo job done wrong.

I'VE GOT THAT PROBLEM WITH MY RX8...IN MY CASE WAS REAR crankshaft BEARING ...but that could be clutch bearing as well...you will find exactly after is dismantle ...

Me on the Audi: "Start it start it start it start it! ---- no no no don't actually start it --- don't do it --- oh man he's gonna do it... oh ok" Rx8 might be the SSV valve right behind the t-stat underneath where the plastic intake plenum meets the lim. Grab the arm on the diaphragm and it should shut up. It is not too bad to fix, just pull it out and clean it up. The other issues are likely all low compression. Actually later on in the video it sounds like it might be from the exhaust or clutch like you are saying.

The Subaru is good. The idle you think is a problem is only auto choke because the engine temperature is cold. It will calm down after some minutes. Fun cars👍🏻

Need another person to rev the rotary while you diagnos the noise. Could be a hundred things, from a cracked flywheel to a loose stationary gear. But that hard starting is a little much. It would have to go really cheap to take a chance on it.

I have a 2005 Mazda rx8 and when I got it the engine was locked. So I had it rebuilt. And new airbags put In. And I swear as the day is long... the day I got it back I drove it almost all day and on my way back home I stoped at a red light 💡 and turned green and I pushed the pedal and it wouldn’t Go aver 3000 rpm and now it’s just sitting in my driveway.😭
