Auto Auction Rebuilds keep in mind that these cars been sitting around for years you want to go through and replace most of the rubber hoses fuel lines vacuum lines and Exedra for the engine bay the engines produce a lot of heat and sitting around for awhile doesn't help

I owned a Tempo this exact year and trim! But mine had the optional 3.0 V6! Ultimate sleeper right there! Took it home for $1200 with only 80,000 miles back in 09. All it needed was a state inspection! And the mechanic who I got it from maintained it since new so the miles were original! Gave me five good years of service! Never left me sit!

When the engine is stopped it is normal for the transmission fluid level to show as very high. Its supposed to be read when the fluid is circulating round the transmission box.

Your tempo, by how you described it, was an 88-91. 92 to 94 had the body color grille, Oklahoma shape brake lights etc. I owned 4 different tempo's. They were pretty good to me too. I do miss my 93 tempo gs coupe. Had a 3.0 Vulcan engine with a 5 speed manual

I'm a toyota tech. Thats normal with the engine off. And the 2.4l motor has a rebuild kit to fix the oil consumption. It replaces the piston and piston rings.

The engine in the Toyota Camry you showed is the same exact engine that is in the TC with slight differences, it’s one of the best engines Toyota have made, we have 3 Camrys of the same one you showed and they are very reliable and they all have high mileage. The transition dipstick situation is the same on all Toyota’s checking it while it’s started is the best.

You must know that when you drive a car around both the oil and transmission fluid slushes around in the tube where you check if it's too high or low with the sticks. (Speed bumps etc. make a big difference) Pro tip: Take a piece of paper, paper towel or even a leaf and clean the stick, put it back in and pull it out to check the levels.

I worked at a Hertz car rental place in the early 90s and we had some Tempos. I can honestly say you're the first person I've ever heard of that would say they loved a Ford Tempo. The customers constantly complained about them, and the employees would leave them sit until every other car was gone before they'd touch them.

I always liked those 2nd gen Tempos/Topaz. I almost bought a white '92 back in '93. It was a trade in at the dealership I worked for. Forgot what I bought instead, but I liked the feel and looks of the Tempo w/ the blue interior. I miss colored interiors.

A 1965 Buick Skylark was my first car... Paid $275 for it and the first week had to replace transmission lines and get the radiator repaired. Other than that I had oil changes and $25 (a piece) used tires for the 2 years I had it - sold it for $300 including the red fuzzy dice...

First car I bought off of a lot was a green 93(?) Tempo in ‘99. Tried to learn to drive a stick in it. I wasnt that good. Didnt buy another stick until I bought a brand new tC and had no trouble driving it. Weird how that works. Also I used to build the Venza up until a few years ago when production stopped. Sold a lot the first few years but in the end we were building maybe 2 per shift and all for Canada.

I think cold means running before the trans has reached operating temperature. I just checked the trans fluid on one of my cars that has been sitting a couple of weeks. It shows greatly overfilled, cranked it up and let it run a minute, and the fluid then showed it was at the cold level. Perhaps others can do the same test and report in?

On those cars I know (the vast majority of the cars are stick shift here) you have to check the auto transmission fluid level with the engine running.

if you want to check the car is flooded or not check the trunk at spare tire is located that will tell you if the car flooded or not.

I strongly suspect the Lexus has got a leak on the bulkhead/firewall where the heater assembly passes through. It's usually an easy issue to fix in that it's often a failed seal or sealant but on a lot of cars to fix it means pulling the HVAC system out, and that means pulling the dashboard assembly out, which is hugely, hugely time-consuming and can work out massively expensive if you end up breaking something while you're doing the job. As a car for someone to buy and do-up for themselves it could make sense, or if it was just a typically slightly cosmetically challenged grandpa car it also might, but for you, with the water damage I'd say it's a no-hoper as once you've put the time into it there'll be no profit...

The transmission dipstick in Toyota vehicles are designed to be checked with the car running and in park. “Cold” is first start up before trans gets to op temp. “Hot” is when the engine and trans are at op temps.

Transmission dipstick reads hot and cold based on the engine temp. They are always high when checking them with the engine off. Water in the trans pan is not a big deal unless the car was started and that we have no way of telling aside from the condition of the fluid. The Lexus looked good engine and trans wise.

I know this is an older vid & it's most likely been pointed out already, but in case not- the reason the transmission fluid appears high is because the engine isn't running. On an autobox, as with an engine, the level in the sump goes down when it's running as it gets pumped around the system. The difference is that the transmission level is supposed to be checked with the engine running & after you've selected all gears. I'd say high fluid level is nothing to worry about WITH THE PROVISO that people do as you did and get a comparison with a non flood car of the same model to get an idea exactly where the fluid tends to sit when not running. Obviously if it's waaaaaay high, higher than others of similar type then run like hell, otherwise let it scare off other potential buyers and get a cheap car ;)

You should always check auto transmission fluid levels with the engine running! The oil has to be circulating, which lowers the levels to where they should be.

It's normal to see levels like that until the engine is running as the fluid runs back to the pan when off and then gets sucked out once the engine is running. The Hot and Cold marks are still for when it's running.

Checking Transmission fluid can be very tricky a lot of the time. As you stated it does need to be done after the engine is started. I find it difficult to get a precise reading though since as the car warms up the level rapidly changes. Not to mention its very unclear to see on the dipstick. I usually just trust that its okay after I change it myself. Those Toyotas would be fine if not for the flood damage, too bad.

Wow! Good luck man. Be careful not to pay too much though the engine is probably toast or close to it. Buy it as if you have to rebuild the engine. Just the rebuild kit is $1k alone. If you can get it for $750 you should be good.

the cars have to be running in neutral usually to check the oil in transmission(its written on gage usually),that's why you have overfill transmission fluid on gage,cold running car at `cold`` and whne hot at ``hot`` :)

You're supposed to only check the transmission fluid level when the engine is running.Cold is for when the engine hasn't warmed up and hot is for when the engine is hot

Flood cars, you ALWAYS want to pull back the carpet and make sure that the bottom side of the carpet isn't wet or mildewed. you can get by the water in the transmission deal by flushing and filling the transmission. not sure who told you they had glue in them but that's not the case. Not at all. You've got clutch packs bands that usually have break material on them, pressure disks which are cellulose coated metal and the pumps. the pumps and filter are the only thing that is usually damaged when water gets in a transmission or some of the metal internals will rust if the transmission isn't kept full of fluid. but nothing will destroy the transmission unless you run it with the water in there. even then you can flush it out, run it a little and then change the fluid and filter again and usually that takes care of any water that may be in the transmission. how do you think 4 Wheel drive trucks are able to go completely under water as long as the air intake is open still and not have to have the transmission rebuilt each time they do it? The Toyota Venza came out in 2015 and has been replaced by the highlander. yeah i agree texting can wait. that's why when i am driving my phone stays in my pocket or in a sleaved case that i keep mine in. i dont even answer calls when i'm driving even with a bluetooth interface in my escalade just because, gotta stay focused. specially since not many others are any more. You keep revving that RX8 that hard and there's not going to be enough of it left to sell for a decent pay day*

On Toyota automatic transmission dipsticks, the cold line is running cold the hotline is running hot. When you first start the car cold, it should be at the cold line. And when the engine and transmission are up to temperature, it should be at the hot line.
