Thanks for the video. I had the same issue with my 2013 XK DHC. Stalled in 6" of water - hydro locked. My insurance paid for a replacement engine! BTW, the air filters are accessed through the wheel arch liners, which just pop out after releasing a few bolts. Turning the wheel helps with access. The XK has a towing eye underneath the rear bumper - it's a rectangular plate on the sub-frame and you just pass the tow line back through and over a lip to lock it in place. No need to open the boot.

Thanks for watching! well spotted with the rear towing, we couldn't find a tow eye anywhere, will have another look next time! 👍

Enjoyed it, especially that all is done in one video and all is shown. Also agree with other comments that an older type engine is not the best for the cars value.

That was a fun video. However, am curious if you did or did not remove exhaust and drain any water?? If not why not?
@SuperRon2 ай бұрын
Any water in the exhaust would just go out the back when started and any moisture will evaporate out when warmed. We were a bit worried about the cats, but it passed the MOT just fine 👍 thanks for watching 😁

Good job well done 👍😍👍is possible the water might get in the gearbox 🤔and how much this job would normally cost please 😊
@SuperRon Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching 😁 no the gearbox was fine, the car wasn't submerged in water, the engine just sucked it up internally from the low intakes. I'm not sure how much it cost but it was 3-4 days doing the swap.

Nice job. Just to point out, it is not a Ford engine but a Jaguar designed and manufactured although some of the smaller bits are Ford as they owned Jaguar at that time
@SuperRon2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, it was a strange one, I didn't see anything stamped Jaguar on the engine at all!
@chrisbaker121924 Жыл бұрын
Yep Jaguar v8 which started life in the x308 in 1998 and of course the original xk8 in 1997
@Jack-P-07 Жыл бұрын
Yes 100%, the Engine was built on the Ford engine assembly line in Wales but is 100% Jaguar designed, which may account for the parts, oddly enough they still often charge Jaguar prices for the parts. @SuperRon awesome video. The 5.0 NA was used in almost all Jaguar models which may account for the slightly different connections. I am no mechanic but have a passion for it, so it is a real treat to see work of this quality done from start to finish. The XK is an extremely good looking car IMO but those air filters are in a slightly peculiar place.

Impressive for a non mechanic like me. Impressed that it could be salvaged. So not true then that a flooded engine equals car written off? Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
@SuperRon Жыл бұрын
It was written off by the insurance company, who quote new parts. But the customer repaired it privately with second hand parts, bear in mind the second hand engine was £6k alone. Thanks for watching 😁

The location of the airboxes is really interesting as the previous version X100 XK the air intake is above the 4,2 engine. The 5.0 version looks like a step backwards. I'm curious about the plastic film you placed on the wings to protect them. Where do you get that from ?
@SuperRon Жыл бұрын
Yes very poor design on this model. The blue film is the stuff painter and decorators use to put down on carpets to keep them clean.

The boxes are low , but the intake is high , so how is it pulling in water from low down ? Doesn’t seem possible ? The filters looked crispy dry and dusty , not wet
@SuperRon Жыл бұрын
Engines are just a big air pump, suck air in and blow it out. So if the inlet is in water it will suck it up like a straw. It had been sitting in with the insurance company for a few months which is why the paper had dried out.

Amazing but...why go to ALL that trouble to replace it with a 2009-2011 engine? Those are prone to timing chain failures. I would've gotten the newest engine possible (14-15). Labor and Parts this was How much? $12K USD? Probably more?
