2021 lost my 33 yr old son, then best friend of 35 years, then lost our 17 yr old fur baby and to top it off lost my husband of 42 years, was not a good year. But scriptures especially the Psalms, praying them out, remembering all our tears will be wiped away and no more mourning or crying (Rev 21) holding on to the HOPE we have in our Messiah and praying scriptures. Years ago after a pet died, I read a book called "Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates." The author gave 5 reasons why he believed our pets WILL be in heaven. It made sense. May you be comforted at this sad time, knowing that you gave Max a wonderful life and that one day all tears will be wiped away.

Thank you, thank you. As a longtime volunteer with a cat rescue, I have hundreds of stories I could share, if space and time permitted. I have a "fospice" at home. If the rescue takes in an older diabetic cat, I give him or her a home for rest of their life. When it is time to let them go, it never gets any easier. And I have watched how a cat grieves when it loses another cat that it was bonded with. I am grateful for my pastor who believes we will see our pets again in heaven, because God knows the desires of our hearts.

I’m so sorry about Max! I remember meeting him when you brought him to our house during Covid. It’s so hard when there is no closure! We’ve experienced this ourselves. You mind goes wild with what might have happened. I love Mathew 10:29 that night even a sparrow falls without God seeing it. This is the enemy’s attack. He sees the good you’re doing and wants to stop and hurt you. Hold on to Jesus! He’s enough. We are hugging you with our hearts and prayers! ❤️

Brother James, that you have received a "Grateful Spirit" regarding your loss of Max is significant in the Healing Process. Whenever I think about any of my dogs, especially this last one, I make it a point to thank our Father for all the time He gave me with them. There's a saying in the Healing Community, which I've been a part of for over 15-years: "If you are willing to FEEL it - Christ CAN and WILL Heal it." Stay there when you feel the pain - don't try to avoid it. Cry until you're done, even if it's only for that moment. Truly, our Father gave us many things for the Healing of our wounds. I pray for you and hope your grief for Max comes to pass. My sister lost her dog just after Christmas. Her son was terribly sick and had to go to the ER . Her other dog, who just had puppies, was also not doing well and was taken to the vet in finding that she was low on calcium. This all happened in the same time period. My heart goes out to you and your family about Max. I lost my Rumor January 8 of this year. He’s my 2nd fur baby to lose in less than a year. What helped me this week I kept my furry great grandson Masego . It was a joy keeping him. Holding, hugging,kissing, feeding him, etc. I say out loud to Rumor, he has a new set of eyes, bones, teeth, new body,etc. I told him he’s now with the Lord and his brothers and sister and I will see him and others again.

I have the same breed mix, looks just like Max. My Rookie, (12 yrs) has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has been with me through many life changes including the loss of my husband. For as long as I have Rookie, I will enjoy every minute and shower him with love and affection. My word of comfort is Ecclesiates - a time to laugh and a time to cry, a time to live and a time to die. God is with us through it all.

When my toy poodle died my husband and I were heartbroken. We had him for 15yrs and he was such a funny boy. He was also quiet and peaceful and trusted us so much cos he knew he was safe. After he died we kept his blanket and would hug it with his smell upon it. We didn’t rush to get rid of his things until we were ready. We cried when we needed to. Praying for comfort for you brother James, for you and your family. I have had and probably will have my share of pet loss. I live in Cambodia and vets are slightly better than google searches here. Many cats I rescued died very violently within days before they were of age to be vaccinated. A few walked away and I hope they have found new homes, where they are loved. Just days for Christmas, I lost a cat (that was born into my house) to the aftermath of feline Covid. He survived the critical state a miracle for everybody only to get sick a week later and dying in my arms a few hours later. I solace myself with the thought they have a better live now. I miss them very much but I try to not grieve too much and keep living helping other rescues in their name. I know my loss is slightly different from yours.

I’m so sorry about Max! He’s so cute. I know it’s so hard to lose our pets. They are like little fur angels that love us unconditionally. Just in case he is still alive out there, I pray it will be revealed that wherever he is covered up he will be uncovered. Wherever he is hidden in the dark, I pray he will be brought to light. I pray if anyone finds him, they will be honest & caring caregivers & return him to a safe place where you can reach him. ( that prayer 99% of the time happens for me). Oh, Dr. Markham, I can see how sad you are. In October I had to put my furry buddy down. he was 18! I had been preparing myself for about three years but nothing away When you actually have to go through with it. That would make it very hard for me. If he ran away then I can understand your grief. Recommend get another shorkie or Yorkie. Getting a Yorkie pup from our local breeder helped our family get over our pet loss grief when we lost our 11yo Yorkie.

I am so beyond words sorry for your loss. Back in 2014 my mom passed away. She was 92. A month later our little dog Misty passed away. She was 15. Then 10 months later our golden retriever Amy Rose died. I cried a lot that year. I cried everyday until we got our Charlotte--a golden/lab mix and then Lily Rose. So sorry for your loss. As me and my wife listened this morning we could not only see but feel your pain. We have experienced this twice in a 2 month span. We lost our beloved Jack Russell mix Bonnie on 10/30/2023 after 13 years and 2 months later our special needs cat of 17 years on 12/30/2023. What has helped us as we continue through the grieving process has been Psalms 36:6 for starters and MH315.3, add these to your families daily prayers and it will help❤❤

I had a cat that disappeared like Max and I looked all over the neighborhood. After a couple of days of looking and praying I was reminded God love's my cat more than I. He knows when a sparrow falls. Ps 36:6 God preserves both man and beast. I prayed asking God to take care of Flynt (my cat) daily. After two weeks one morning at 5:00 am I heard a meow outside my bedroom window and there was Flynt! So, God knows where Max is. As for death if it is a person I remember 1 Thes 4:13 we do not mourn as others who have no hope. If a pet, I realize I am a caretaker of the pet, that the pet finished his time on earth and that God love's that animal more than I. Then as I am going about my life in a month or so another animal will come across my path that needs a home. As one person posted below one day tears will pass away. ( Rev 21).

😢 heart breaking 💔 so much harder not knowing where Max is. When I experienced the loss of my first pet I had as an adult, God gave me Psalm 4.7..but you have given me a greater joy. In my grief, I recalled all the joy my cat, Cleo gave me. She went through so many of my ups and downs, moves, jobs. I remembered how much joy she gave me. Even in the pain, the joy was greater. Very sorry brother, I have recently lost my best dog friend, sometimes it felt like my only friend but I remember the verses in the bible that say God is with us, and collects our tears, and works all things together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose. Every time we mourn death I think God feels and sees with compassion because he knows our hearts hate sin that lead to death not only for us but the natural world and all He created. God is good always all ways and we don't understand but HALLELUJAH, God does. Love you and praying for you and all who have and are suffering loss. Remember the bible says even the dogs have a purpose. In Hebrew, the word for dog means all heart. Dogs are loving loyal and mirror their masters. A perfect example of how we should be. My families English short haired cat passed away at the age of 15 years, succumbing very quickly to liver cancer. It took her very quickly in 3 weeks. The hardest part was when my family were all patting her, whilst she went into the stage of labored breathing. To witness this broke our hearts. Though in your case James your dog just disappeared. So your grief is worse because you didn't get to say goodbye to Max. I think you gave very good advice. I also lost my beloved fox terrier last year. I had to put him to sleep and that was even worse. Ultimately, as christians, our Rock and help remains Jesus Christ, our Lord. In time, you will accept the death of your beloved dog. It is not easy, but acceptance will come.

Sorry ❤ I have a picture of my dog on refrigerator which the clip that holds it says - This is why I get up in the morning ... He was close to me (Preston ) But when Jeremy my son went home to be with the Lord at 38 years old. He became closer then when it came time two years later he was half great Dane half lab and lived to be 12 years old he was digging his own hole in the backyard and they know when they’re going to pass away feeling sick or what whatever ! but I have heard so many times that they wonder off and they just go to sleep I had a dog and I knew she was passing and I kept holding her and she kept wanting in the backyard laying down and I would bring her back in and hold her , she would want to go back out and it happens so fast she went and laid under the tree and before I could go get her and bring her back again she was already gone was only like 25 feet away in the beautiful green grass under the shade tree. And the other day I was at my daughters house and a husband and wife were walking in the neighborhood and when they got around our side they said do you own a cat and we said no why do you have a cat missing and they said no their neighbor found a cat yesterday in their yard passed away So my heart goes out to you of the not knowing Father God please help in the situation your Lord as there in so much pain of the not knowing Jesus please be with them and comfort them give them the peace they need if Max is with you now let them find the sign of this otherwise can there be the miracle of him to return home thank you Jesus love you Amen

Im so sorry to hear about Max. Loosing a pet hurts more than loosing a person. I turned to Jesus and did a Bible study on animals. I cried, and cried .....and cried somemore... I journaled, prayed, and then cried some more. Ive learned to lean into the pain, embrace it, feel it, then breath and let it go. Jesus was my rock and I relied on Him for several months to help with the pain. Then one day I woke up and I realized I wasn't sad. It was like I had been wheaned away from the pain. To this day, when I look at my fur babies photo I tear up. I can't wait to see him in Heaven and have snuggles and kisses.

Nothing hurts more than losing son and husband (42 years together) 10 months apart in 2021. Heavenly Father gives comfort daily. But loss of ‘human’ loved ones hurts ….also lost our fur baby 2021, but nothing compares to loss of my son and husband.

My dog was my child, spouse, best friend, confidant, shopping buddy, etc. So when I lost him it was like losing all that you described. Either way, loss hurts and it takes a lot of time to heal. I pray you are healing from your deep loss.

When your pet just disappears, acceptance takes longer to achieve. There is always that part of you still wondering where he is. As for healing, perhaps consider fostering another. Love is meant to be given, and you have lost an outlet for that. Daphne has also lost her friend that she bossed around. Perhaps an older dog that has lost someone would also find comfort in a new start.
