I remember she came up to the house and said, "I just got bit by a copperhead." Despite the grandchildren trying to get her to go the hospital, she finished the job after taking some tylenol. She eventually went two days later, and the doctor gave her some heart meds. She survived, but she was one tough lady.

@AtarahDerek10 жыл бұрын
Gypsyskys McC No, not the same thing. Poison is a simple chemical compound, and it works whether it's injected, ingested, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Venom, as a type of saliva, is a complex cocktail of enzymes and other protein-based toxins programmed by DNA to perform very specific functions, and for that reason ONLY works when it's injected into the bloodstream. Some venoms do affect a victim's eyes, but those venoms still only have the power to kill when they actually get into the bloodstream. Basically, if it bites you and makes you sick, it's venomous. If you bite it and it makes you sick, it's poisonous. There is only one genus of poisonous snake in the world, and it's also venomous. It's a rear-fanged colubrid from China. Some of its species are mildly venomous, and some are dangerously venomous. All secrete a mucus from the prey they eat that poisons other predators who may not be affected by their venom.

there hasn't been a death recorded from a copperhead in the United States since the fuckin sixties, and even back then it was rare. This snake isn't deadly in today's time, although it does have the potential to cause lots of pain for a good amount of time. I don't agree with the fact that he killed it, but if he has kids, I understand why. I wouldn't want my children to go through the effects of a copperhead bite, and I think we all have to respect him for trying to keep his kids safe. I have conflicting emotions about this because I love snakes with a passion. copperheads are generally docile and don't tend to bite without provocation, but it can still happen. And many of you could say he should have moved the snake instead of killing it, but it takes years of training to know how to do that. If he or anyone else had been bitten, sure they wouldn't have died, but that's still a lot of medical bills that otherwise wouldn't have been necessary for him and his family. That's why I have conflicting emotions about this kind of thing.

The capt I drove for noticed a gator in the water right next to those tank crossing bridges, and a copperhead doing a stand off with in a foot of each other. We watched for maybe 15 minutes and I tossed a small rock that hit the nose of the gator and neither one flinched.. Waited maybe another 5 minutes then had to get, but they were both still standing off there. Don't know WTF the copperhead was thinking it was not more then 4 feet long, the gator head was about 1.5 ft long and maybe 8 inch wide. We were about 10 to 11 ft from them..

Let's get something straight. It's nice that some of you tough guys love snakes and aren't afraid of them, and if you think they're "beautiful" wonderful creatures, fine. But here's some reality for you - most folks don't like snakes, and they're not cowards, pussies, idiots, or morons. They think snakes are creepy, dangerous, and aggressive predators, so you'll you'll just have to live with how they feel. My feeling is that snakes should be feared and avoided. Personally, I kill them at every opportunity, and if you don't like that - tough shit. So put a lid on this pseudo "macho" horseshit bravado about unfounded fears because snakes are great. It's not gonna get you praise, respect, or homage, and it won't get you laid for being a tough guy.

Copperheads aren't aggressive. They'll usually run when approached. If they're camouflaged, they'll stay hid until disturbed.

Thank you so much for your video. I totally agree w / you, we live w/a swamp along the side of our property so we get a lot of moccasins. My niece did spot a copperhead once but I only 1/2 believe her because she was too casual identifying it. Regardless in the last 5 years I have lost 3 Dachshund's wandering on their property as the moccasins boldly took over their territory. So, the snake goes before another fur-baby does, sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's feelings -but someone has to stick up for their rights. One of my females has been attacked 4 separate times by moccasins, there is no way I' m letting any of her offspring outside. Again thank you. Awesome video.

Overbreeding can kill a dog slowly. Educate yourself on where these snakes like to hide. Keep you property clear of debris and keep your grass cut short. Spay and neuter your pets, stop breeding for cash in your pocket. Just because someone pays for a pet doesn’t mean they won’t end up homeless. Adopt don’t shop. Stop having an excuse to kill animals.

The moccasins didn’t boldly take over the dogs territory. If you live next to a swamp and you’re down south, there will be plenty of cottonmouths there no matter how many you kill. That is their prime habitat. They don’t just live right next to the water. They go inland a bit but they do always live near a water source and a swamp is literally their number one territory. I can’t believe you lost 3 dogs to them. After the first time I would either keep the dogs inside, or I’d create a fenced in area that keeps the snakes out. There is just no way you can let dogs roam free around a swamp in the south and not expect them to come in contact with each other. And it’s gonna be the dogs that come up to the snakes curiously every time and mess around until they get bit. So yeah the issue here is knowing your environment and responding to tragic situations appropriately.

Hey I just moved to north Texas And I'm used to rattlers and all that but copperheads are a new breed for me I've been carrying 9mm snake loads from CSI BRAND have you used those ? Do you find them effective? Thanks

Good video...when you were showing the fangs, the first one you exposed with your knife leaked a drop of venom. That one drop of venom could cause a person to have a very bad day. Thanks for sharing!!

we got some in south west Nebraska. only had one get away from me while down at a local pond. out here we call poisonous snakes (crawling land mines ) The ranch I work part time now for 40 years looses near 6 baby calves yearly to rattlers so standing order for us by rancher is kill on sight. We do leave the coach whip snake alone, now that is a monster some hitting 14 foot.

Copperhead snakes are not aggressive at all. I would also remove it from my home area but if you see one in nature remember, they will flea from you given the opportunity. Don't kill them just because they don't have legs.

John, we don't have copperheads where I live, just rattlers, but when I find them where they don't belong, they get dealt with in a similar fashion. It's hilarious how much this simple video about ridding your property of a snake stirred up so many emotions and "intellectuals" out there! Keep yer powder dry my friend.

@christiangasior42442 жыл бұрын
No it isn’t at all. You have to step on them or scare them bad to get tagged. Like if you flash your hand in front of them quickly yeah they may bite. You’re a huge potential predator looking down on them and they fear for their life. They’re not aggressive. They don’t want to waste venom because it’s very valuable to them and they need it for their prey and to help digestion. They only produce a limited amount of it. Often when they bite it’s just a warning, aka a dry bite, but if they do envenomate you it means you scared the crap out of them and they feared for their life.

Why do some people mistake nonpoisonous brown snakes for copperheads? I can tell Copperheads have a pattern of light brown & dark brown & their tail is yellow, but a nonpoisonous brown snake is just brown with black spots but they don't have a yellow tail like a copperhead does!!!
@TerryReedMiss9 жыл бұрын
Christopher Jordan Most people do not know enough about snakes to make the distinction and are usually too far down the road, if they are smart, to look that closely! They RUN and they SHOULD. If you do not know, then you don't go!

Copperhead's aren't "extremely" poisonous. I stepped on one as a young teen, got bit in the ankle. Hospital didn't even give me any anti-venom. Watched me for a couple hours, then gave me typical antibiotics and told me to take tylenol.

The snake doesn't even have to be poisonous to kill you. My friend was working around tall grass and thought she was stung by fire ants. The next day she was in emergency surgery to clean out the infection. She was actually bit twice by a pigmy rattler which is not venomous or poisonous but carries tons of bacteria on their fangs. She never saw the snake. In a grid down situation, my friend would have been dead.
