I was bitten by a copperhead reaching down over some rocks to pick up a bass I had caught ... Picked up the bass and had a 30" copperhead hanging off my wrist ... For all those who think this man is wrong for protecting his children I am 6'3" 240lbs and almost lost my hand I could only imagine what a small child would suffer through if bitten these snakes r dangerous and I commend this man for protecting his family and utilizing the snake as a resource in multiple ways

Sir I don't know if you think this is a strange coincidence but I was bitten as an 8 year old child because my father through a pile of carpet and I decided it was a good idea to run bare foot through it and then a copperhead was very unhappy that I was walking on his turtle eggs that he was eating and got bit on my ankle this was on my birthday mind you so I was very unhappy also the aftermath was me not being able to walk for the entire summer

+Sierra MatchKing , I wander about the mass non-indigenous pythons taking over Florida, can they be eaten? I hope if that is so that he will make a how-to video on the topic. Really, a company making snake skin boots and pocket books should open in south Florida, and give money for any python they come in with, before they kill off all the wild life. The PBS video on the flood of pythons in the Everglades and across Florida stated that they found 160 pythons in a squash garden outside the Everglades. Sounds like there needs to be something done. They are eating small deer, alligators, birds, etc.

Since no one else seems to have mentioned it yet: When you were slitting the snake open down the belly to remove the skin you should have used a good pair of scissors instead of the knife. It's easier to handle and lets you make a straight cut much easier. Hope that's helpful in the future.

Why all the negative comments? Relocating snakes is a dangerous & wasted event. In these Appalachian mountains Copperheads & Rattlesnakes are plenty & no matter how far you release them, they always find their way back. @snomonabench9 жыл бұрын
WH Now that's just provoking "sissy snake loves" people care about this animals just like you would care about dogs. I understand if you kill them for protection of your family no one wants to go head to head with a snake. Killing them for fun is a completely other issue as I said before they are still creatures just like a cat or a dog. So don't tell us we are bitching because we are simply bitchy because we care about our pets maybe we care too much but the argument still stands.
@wh80859 жыл бұрын
LOL, I knew that would stir someone up : ) I don't kill nothing for fun but any copperhead or rattlesnake I come across had better be moving on or WHACK ! Off goes his head ! Killing a venomous snake could be saving someones life down the road. The rest of them, ehh, let 'em eat rats ! And people that love snake, to each their own. I don't like them but enjoy if that's what floats yer boat . Florida has a bad infestation of child and pet threatening snakes because of snake lovers letting their "pets" loose in the woods. If you get tired of them, at least be responsible about it. To late now , in Florida anyways.

Here's my take on the old classic! On a lovely, sunny morning, By the path that she chanced to take, A levelheaded woman Saw a venomous old snake. His worn out skin had just been shed and he looked bright and new. “Good thing,” she said, “I saw you and that I know what to do!” “Pretty skin,” thought the woman, “And a fine pelt it will make. Pretty skin,” thought the woman, “What a break!” She pulled her little .25 from out its’ leather slot And sent the snake to Glory with a single, clean headshot. She rolled him up and took him home, then laid him out all flat, And saw he had enough skin for a jacket and a hat. From off the shelf above her head, a knife and pot she took, The scent of flayed and roasting snake soon filled the breakfast nook. Pretty skin,” said the woman, “and such tender, juicy flesh, There’s nothing like home roasted snake, When it’s all nice and fresh!” The hat and jacket turned out fine, “They’re beautiful,” she cried! And jumped astride her Harley for a long and thrilling ride. She roared off down the highway, in the jacket warm and tight, She loved the way it glistened as she rode on through the night. She ran her palm along the scales and whispered, with a grin, “Don’t show up with your poison if you wish to keep your skin!” “Pretty skin,” said the woman, “And a fine pelt it did make. Pretty skin,” said the woman, “What a break!”

+msheadhunter My guess it that it was easier for him to use the head as an anchor while he skinned the rest of it and prepped it for tanning.

I appreciated you sharing. Your info was spot on. Great technique also. That was some course training for our SF's out here at FT. BRAGG Coppers and Moccs are a dozen for a quarter out here. Good eats my friend!

I did a little bit of research on it and found out that some of them are high in mercury. not sure what the effect are but I don't think I be able to catch a python in my neck of the woods any way.

Rheny Baby That's wasn't the point. Yes you can eat snakes, but don't eat anything high in mercury. Mercury is damaging

Thanks for the video. I'm heading for a few day camping trip soon. From what I hear there have been a lot of copperheads in the area. I've never skinned one so this helped out. I hope I bump into a few on the trip. I'm so bringing some Sweet Baby Rays with me.
