False...the police was called by neighbors that there are trespassers (probably did not saw it was the owner) , so the police is conducting an investigation on that property. They see an old aggressive guy where the cop was nicely asking ..then he tried to run off...now he is a suspect,as he could stole something and was caught. Thats the moment he should have already get cuffed. Starting a argument with the officer that could easily be resolved by showing his id proofing that he is the owner The officer does not know how he is, sees an aggressive old guy trying to run off and does not calm down. Someone calls the police that they see a stranger on the property (maybe trying to break in through a window) or packing stuff into a car in the middle of the night...well, how should they do their job, when there is a imminent threat on the property,when they can't access the property. Yes...the police has no right to sneak through your back yard or even search your apartment due to a noice complain...but we are talking about a situation here, someone informed the police about a danger, so it's their job to check it out and give a shit about "no trespassing", because some thieves obviously ignored it already and will pose a threat. And if you tell them *everything is fine,you are the owner"...are you lying? ...so they ask for id to prove that statement, because if they would just drive off, they would not do their job...and if you're playing dickhead, expect to be arrested until they identified you to proof that you are the actual owner. If you think,the actual owner needs to allow them on the property, even if a witness informed them about an imminent threat, then there's definitely something wrong in your mindset.

With respect, that's about the stupidest reactionary suggestion I've heard. The police need some protection against dangerous criminals, QI provides that. What police need is proper thorough legal training before they are allowed on practical duty, (like the Swedish police) also clear rules of engagement and fair punishment applied against those officers found breaching the rules. Most police officers are professional, they face real danger, however a few bad apples inevitably will tarnish the reputation of the whole, so a knee jerk revocation of QI for all officers, will have the effect of turning off potential recruits and prematurely retiring more officers leading to further overt and more brazen criminality.

Qualified immunity is exactly what it says. Let's break it down. To get immunity one must QUALIFY to get it!! How do you qualify? You must pass a code or set of STANDARDS what a reasonable person could assume. If I drove by a car with a broken window. An Officer saw the Subject with a ball bat in his hand looking into the car. A REASONABLE person would deduce the bat COULD HAVE been used to break the window. An Officer would not be considered PROFILING anyone if he asked the person holding the bat some standard questions. The BAT HOLDER decides to RUN!!! The Officer chases him. The bat holder turns around threatens the Officer with the bat. "Batman" holder of the bat lunges toward the Officer! ALLY KA BLAM!!! The Officer shoots him twice in the chest and he dies! Further investigation reveals the man was walking home after playing softball. It is also determined he did not break the window. Now without QUALIFIED IMMUNITY. The COP is going down for Murder one! Why? Batman committed no crime. Hence the Officer had no right to question him or chase him. Batman had every right if he is innocent to defend himself. This is your world without qualified immunity. Now I am sure you are DANCING for joy!!! This is what would happen if a private citizen replaced the Officer without qualified immunity. Tell me the truth. If that was your CAR! Would you not want the Officer to stop in the first place. If I were him I would wait to have the charge of interfering thrown out by the DA/prosecutor and file a claim with the city’s insurance company that may be a quicker pathway to financial remedy rather than filing a civil suit thru the courts which may take months or years to be heard. Besides these officers most likely will not face any serious consequences for their tyrannical actions and their qualified immunity will likely be intact when all is said and done even in the face of clear civil rights violations.
