@mer That person being in a private residence, whom they have no true reason to believe should not be there It does not matter if they were obscured or not, the person was approaching the door to answer it, if they had ill intent they would have hid around a damn corner and shot the extremely visible cops through the window. I mean for fk sakes the cops had their flashlights shining through the window, it was extremely easy for anyone to know they were there before the cops could see this person, the fact they did not shoot the cops proved they were not a threat. The cops effectively mag dumped a law abiding citizen in their own home after seeing their silhouete through a window, what about if you were in your own home, on christmas, next to the tree helping your kids unwrap presents and some cops outside start unloading into you through seeing your shadow against the window because the shadow of your hand on the window looked like a potential weapon was in it, do you think that should be allowed. There is little difference between that scenario and what happened here. The person was obscured, sure, so was the thing in their hand. if the person was so obscure that you could argue they were a threat, then so was the firearm, it was so obscure you could argue it could have not been a gun at all. If it was not obscured enough to not recognize it, then the police were able to see it well enough to see that it was not pointed at them, it was just in the persons hand, which does not justify shooting them. Just holding a gun is not grounds to kill someone. If it is, then we should all kill every cop or military on sight since they always hold guns and that is them being a lethal threat we can defend ourselves against.

I’d also argue that it’s probably counter productive to have acrylic nails when holding a gun or grabbing a suspect. One’s focus should be on totally different things when working this kind of job. People (no matter who they are) shouldn’t perform as police officers when they are prone to lose their nerves and mag dump 2,3,4 mags into innocent civilians just because an ,,acorn“ lands on a car roof or because they get anxious during a check up at a private residence. The thing is that training exposes you to many stressors, teaching your body bit by bit how to remain functioning during high stress. I'm quite sure that both cops could tell you exactly how poor their choices were when not under that stress. But have these cops even done any training with loud noises and other stresses? To both train them and to weed out the ones who cannot function under stress? If not I'd say the lack of training could be more of a crime than their incompetence under stress.

And because your friends in that apartment thought it was a good idea to walk up to the door with a gun, a sight observed through that same broken window on body worn cameras, the cops lit that individual up along with her friend’s apartment. • The deputies lit up whom they later discovered was the tenant’s friend, and presumably did it under the initial impression that she was a burglar lying in wait to commit a capital crime against peace officers. • I didn’t say the deputies were totally right to do what they did whether they issued commands or not. Given what they had to work with, I don’t blame them for doing unto her before she did unto them. • You and I don’t decide whether they did good or bad, even if it’s an apparent lawful-but-awful because the tenant and her friend were too simple for their own good. I show that respect and have always been shown respect in return, I'm just a little more nervous when it's a female officer. I've always noticed, when partnered up, they are also partnered with female officers, I suppose they can't put a man and a woman together. If she really failed as much as mentioned, HCSO has a humongous issue that should bring in a state level investigation to not only to bring some sort of justice but to overall the department as a whole and weed out the officers serving now with similar pasts. You can try to argue that, but by the letter of the law that wouldn’t stand up in court, and shouldn’t stand up in court.
