If you're not sure who is pounding at your door yelling "SHERIFF'S OFFICE' in the early hours of the morning, again, after having just committed a 'B&E', then barricade yourself, armed, and call 911 rather than blindly walk into a situation where you could be outnumbered and outgunned by people who know where you are standing, but you don't know where they are standing. @@mattmartineau6018Most signs point to that officer not having any sort of PTSD. He served in Afghanistan for 2 tours but never saw any combat. It’s likely he was just way too on edge. He said his legs went numb but that’s either due to him thinking he’d been shot, or having done 2 shoulder rolls on hard concrete and then falling over. Either way there’s no justification for either of the 2 incidents’ officers shooting first.

@mer That person being in a private residence, whom they have no true reason to believe should not be there It does not matter if they were obscured or not, the person was approaching the door to answer it, if they had ill intent they would have hid around a damn corner and shot the extremely visible cops through the window. I mean for fk sakes the cops had their flashlights shining through the window, it was extremely easy for anyone to know they were there before the cops could see this person, the fact they did not shoot the cops proved they were not a threat. The cops effectively mag dumped a law abiding citizen in their own home after seeing their silhouete through a window, what about if you were in your own home, on christmas, next to the tree helping your kids unwrap presents and some cops outside start unloading into you through seeing your shadow against the window because the shadow of your hand on the window looked like a potential weapon was in it, do you think that should be allowed. There is little difference between that scenario and what happened here. The person was obscured, sure, so was the thing in their hand. if the person was so obscure that you could argue they were a threat, then so was the firearm, it was so obscure you could argue it could have not been a gun at all. If it was not obscured enough to not recognize it, then the police were able to see it well enough to see that it was not pointed at them, it was just in the persons hand, which does not justify shooting them. Just holding a gun is not grounds to kill someone. If it is, then we should all kill every cop or military on sight since they always hold guns and that is them being a lethal threat we can defend ourselves against.

I’d also argue that it’s probably counter productive to have acrylic nails when holding a gun or grabbing a suspect. One’s focus should be on totally different things when working this kind of job. People (no matter who they are) shouldn’t perform as police officers when they are prone to lose their nerves and mag dump 2,3,4 mags into innocent civilians just because an ,,acorn“ lands on a car roof or because they get anxious during a check up at a private residence. The thing is that training exposes you to many stressors, teaching your body bit by bit how to remain functioning during high stress. After my gut reaction, I now think these women were poorly trained. The tension of the situation coupled with the possibly very loud alarm, seems to have debilitated their cognitive ability. I'm quite sure that both cops could tell you exactly how poor their choices were when not under that stress. But have these cops even done any training with loud noises and other stresses? To both train them and to weed out the ones who cannot function under stress? If not I'd say the lack of training could be more of a crime than their incompetence under stress.

More like the deputies succeeded in stopping their own murders from all appearances. • That tenant and her guest should have known their shenanigans would get cops coming their way at butt-crack o’clock in the morning; but instead of calling a locksmith or even a friend to see if they can crash at their spot until the morning, the two geniuses screwed around and found out a whole twenty minutes after a neighbor presumably called in an apparent burglary.

At least I know how to Google,@@happycakess/Kindergarten. You won’t understand what’s coming next, but I’m posting it anyway. • Part of the Burglary statue in the Texas Penal Code states: “Texas Penal Code - PENAL § 30.02. Burglary Current as of April 14, 2021 | Updated by FindLaw Staff (a) A person commits an offense if, without the effective consent of the owner, the person: (1) enters a habitation, or a building (or any portion of a building) not then open to the public, with intent to commit a felony, theft, or an assault;  or (2) remains concealed, with intent to commit a felony, theft, or an assault, in a building or habitation;  or (3) enters a building or habitation and commits or attempts to commit a felony, theft, or an assault.” • Those deputies saw all of the above outside of that apartment, which a neighbor called in to 911 between 1am and 2am that night. And because your friends in that apartment thought it was a good idea to walk up to the door with a gun, a sight observed through that same broken window on body worn cameras, the cops lit that individual up along with her friend’s apartment. • The deputies lit up whom they later discovered was the tenant’s friend, and presumably did it under the initial impression that she was a burglar lying in wait to commit a capital crime against peace officers. • I didn’t say the deputies were totally right to do what they did whether they issued commands or not. Given what they had to work with, I don’t blame them for doing unto her before she did unto them. • You and I don’t decide whether they did good or bad, even if it’s an apparent lawful-but-awful because the tenant and her friend were too simple for their own good. That’ll be up to a review board and, if need be, a Grand Jury. • Grow a brain and a vocabulary.

I do not move fast, I announce all my movements beforehand simply because I don't want to be shot. I respect all HPD and HCSO male and female. I show that respect and have always been shown respect in return, I'm just a little more nervous when it's a female officer. I've always noticed, when partnered up, they are also partnered with female officers, I suppose they can't put a man and a woman together. If she really failed as much as mentioned, HCSO has a humongous issue that should bring in a state level investigation to not only to bring some sort of justice but to overall the department as a whole and weed out the officers serving now with similar pasts. If they didn't pass, they should not have been allowed to take the oath.

Which they are operating under the auspice of enforcing the law, not murdering someone. You can try to argue that, but by the letter of the law that wouldn’t stand up in court, and shouldn’t stand up in court. If you are that scared to see a firearm, you need to not be a cop. Period. Obviously there are situations where seeing a gun is a huge red flag for the encounter. Approaching an apartment at night and seeing a resident with a firearm, as long as they don't actively threaten you with it, is clearly not one of those cases. Not only should they be fired, they should be prosecuted. Oh, and that lady needs to get paid. She's now set for life, courtesy of the taxpayers of Houston. If I were a taxpayer in Houston, I'd be livid.

The whole "set for life" thing is outright wrong. Sometimes people legitimately get a shit ton of money but when getting prosecuted the department is going to do everything in their power to lower the amount without it being unconstitutional. Some of the payouts are outright disgusting given you may never be the same for the rest of your life. For example if I got paralyzed or need medical assistance to perform basic functions, I'd trade all the money in the world to get those abilities back. If the person who was shot has had any sort of permanent damage mentally or physically there's nothing they can do to give her that back. The only times people get a lot of money is when they are fucked for the rest of their lives. It wouldn't help her in court if she doesn't look injured.

I mean, I think it's understandable given that they were told the apartment was broken into, saw the windows broken and the screen removed, and saw someone walking around in there with a gun.
