@@aintgotnoname6548 You're incorrect. Oftentimes, disability is invisible. Disability is complex. People who believe they can spot "fakers" are full of shit. I've seen plenty of pages made solely to harass disabled people with complex conditions. People with your mindset tend to jump to conclusions when they can't wrap their heads around chronic illnesses. Assumptions that are typically wrong. There are a plethora of issues that can effect your daily functioning. Ambulatory wheelchair users exist and they need their wheelchairs. Harassing disabled people under the guise of caring about them is despicable, and too many do it. Almost no one is going around faking disability. Unless you are someone's doctor, you cannot tell, no matter how much you convince yourself you can. Disabled people are regularly targeted and this delusional belief doesn't help. This is such an important point. I've had people look at my shoes to check for wear on them when I was an ambulatory wheelchair user, presumably cause of some badly written day time TV crime drama. She forced me to go back in the closet and relive all the denial, guilt and self loathing again. It is absolutely damaging. A person being plus sized has nothing to do with them experiencing gender dysphoria, in my case that made it even worse for me because it reinforced my loathing of my body on multiple levels, so when I wasn't in bed sobbing about how much I hated being a woman I was instead in bed sobbing about how fat and disgusting I felt. As a physically disabled (and also autistic) person, this is something I've heard my entire life. (Nearly) Every. Single. Day. They are similar situations, but depending on the disability, the harassment and abuse can be _significantly_ variable in extremism. If you have a well-known disability, people are much more accepting of it. I have relatively uncommon and unheard of physical disabilities and that's what causes the harassment I receive on a daily basis. People think it's my job to prove to them that it's possible for me to exist with the disabilities I have before they'll respect my existence. By default, they believe I must be lying if they've never educated themselves, and if I don't educate them and convince them of my reality, then I'm a liar. My life is no random person's business. Just respect that I exist as I say I am and move on with your life. It's absolutely exhausting.

Kalvins quote unquote “tr*nny voice” fucked me up a lot. I’m a transmasc dude who started testosterone late last July and as my voice has been changing, I did have quite a nasally (?) voice because... you know... my vocal cords were literally changing and I was struggling to figure out how to talk. I’m currently being diagnosed with autism and for my whole life I’ve always struggled with maintaining a consistent tone of my voice, and whilst being on T has made me a lot more confident with my voice, learning to speak in a consistent manor is really hard. Sometimes I’ll say something and someone will say that i sounded mean or pissed off when in reality I was totally neutral. It can be very hard for me to correlate my spoken tone with my emotions. The “tr*nny voice” bullshit made me feel so embarrassed of myself during a time where I should have been experiencing gender euphoria instead of the fear that I was going to get clocked as a “tr*nny” by the people around me when I do go out in public. I lost a lot of confidence because of his bullshit attitude and his holier than thou self appointed superiority over what makes a trans person valid or not. I do not, and never have looked to Kalvin for any kind of validation for my identity. In his eyes I would be a “valid” trans person because I do dress masc, I do bind my chest, I am on hormones and I am in the process of having top surgery sometime soon (hopefully!). I do experience gender dysphoria quite a bit though some of it has eased off due to my HRT. That being said, my experience is my own and I do all of these things because I want to do them, not because some square-headed asshole on the internet said that if I don’t do XYZ then I’m just a “transtrender” or whatever. Gender validity is up to you and you alone. You do not owe anyone anything when it comes to how you present and how you identify. You do not have to meet the standards of other people to be comfortable with yourself. If you don’t bind, that’s perfectly valid! If you identify as a transman and you like to dress up pretty, that’s awesome! If you don’t want to or can’t go on hormones for whatever reason, that’s perfectly acceptable to do. My doctor who oversees my testosterone and stuff has even talked to be about transmedicalism and has outright said that there is nothing medical about transmedicalism. He agreed with me and added on that basically “do what makes you happy, there is no right way to be trans”. (He’s awesome by the way, he’s autistic and is super into DND and pokemon and we have amazing talks about it and ahhhh he’s great, I’m so lucky to have him!!) Kalvin needs to grow up. He needs to stop bullying others because he’s self conscious about his own identity. He needs to take accountability with the damage he has caused not just to the people he has directly attacked, but everyone who has been emotionally damaged because of his outreach and influence over a specific part of the transgender community.
@cisrot3 жыл бұрын
Haha I didnt expect so many people to like this comment! I basically wrote a dissertation RIP TLDR; gender identity is a personal thing. Kalvin and his friends are wrong. They aren’t just biologically wrong, but socially wrong too. What they say is purely a biased and opinion based rhetoric. You can do whatever you want as long as you aren’t hurting anyone. You do not need to conform to a specific set of rules to be a valid trans person and this goes all ways. My therapist is a trans-woman with an amazing beard. She doesn’t shave it because she loves herself and she embraces it. I agree with her, she looks absolutely gorgeous with her beard. Ultimately, it’s just body hair. We don’t call cis-women “men” if they choose not to shave their legs / arms / etc, so how is facial hair any different?
@bunpun51353 жыл бұрын
well said!! I'm kinda ashamed that I used to watch him a while back, and he really messed up my way of thinking when it came to trans people. Like I thought there was only one way to be a trans man- like you had to avoid looking pretty and at all costs avoid the "tr*nny voice". I also believed that being non-binary wasn't real because of his influence. the things he says are really dangerous and i'm sure I'm not the only one who had those views because of him. Luckily I have since educated myself but its still really scary😬

Here's the difference when it comes to "redemption arcs" in my opinion: Kalvin continues to lie about his past actions, downplaying them and the ramifications they've had. His friend (or ex-friend, I'm not sure about their relationship) Ryan has made multiple videos expressing remorse for the role he played in spreading transmedicalist and hateful rhetoric.

Wow. My heart goes out to Lars. My fiancé has EDS as well. Of course she can walk, but walking can be a struggle for her more often than most might think. Yet, she feels reluctant, embarrassed, and guilty if she needs to park in disability or she needs a wheelchair especially at a theme park because her disability isn’t as apparent and people around her might judge her for seemingly taking advantage of the disability spot or that she’s lazy and just getting a wheelchair for fun or something like that. It’s people like Kalvin that make it hard for people with more invisible disabilities to use the resources that they need so very much without any guilt.

Not to get all trauma dump-y on ya, but the Redemption Arc Discourse section hit me hard. You can only start to redeem abusers, if they're willing to work alongside you. If they're willing to sacrifice things, to be uncomfortable, to apologize over and over, and given the chance, show that they've changed. I'm in the process of watching my abuser heal right now. It's been rough, but she wants to get better. She wants to fix our relationship, and do better by me. You never side with the abuser, never ever. Abusers and bullies and shitty people, they all have responsibilities for their actions. And they all have the responsibility to change if they want to be seen as a better person. Fuck using kid gloves on Kalvin, he does not deserve that. He's the one that hurt people, he's the one that needs to change, and he's the one that should leave.

Our experiences shouldn't be defined by our pain, nor should our validity. I am a nonbinary person who does experience some dysphoria and in no way do I think I, or any other trans person who experiences dysphoria, is in any way more valid than those who do not. If you feel more comfortable being nonbinary, or any other kind of trans, than you feel with your birth gender, be that through the removal of discomfort or the increase in comfort, you are valid. Too often is gender euphoria invalidated and looked over as a perfectly valid reason to identify as the gender you are. What harm is there in supporting people and making them feel comfortable to these people? If anything they should want to make non-dysphoric and "non"-dysphoric trans people feel valid no matter what because it would distil in them the feeling that they need to lean less into their dysphoria, making themselves feel worse, in order to justify being trans and transitioning. Minority and subjugated groups unfortunately quite commonly have people who are at the top of the ladder socially (such as transmen) punch down in order to validate themselves to the majority group (in this case cis people). Moe pointed out, quite validly, in my opinion, how he seems to be doing this to seem like "one of the normal ones" to cis people/ the general population, which only highlights Kalvin's insecurity and desperate need to feel better and higher within a society designed to keep us down, instead of seeking to change society's views itself.

i think that it's good to make the distinction between "understand that people can change" and "let abusers be in the same spaces as victims". dont force victims to be uncomfortable in a space because someone else is in it. dont let current abusers just get away with anything because you believe "they will change". what i will say though is having spaces where people who actually are reformed are accepted is important, as long as it's a space where they can understand that their actions were wrong and they accept that they make people uncomfortable. allowing separate leftist spaces like that to exist alongside each other i think is important, as long as uplifting the victims is the priority.

The part about Twitter being a bad place because you have ADHD really spoke to me, I was diagnosed with ADHD last year and it's helped me make sense of a lot of my struggles and difficulties with social media. If I have time I can craft a good come back or debate but on Twitter or other social sites I'm impulsive and get angry or emotional quickly and my autism makes it worse because I struggle with understanding the other people's emotions or intent.

This is such a good video. I was a young teen on the internet around the time all the Lars stuff happened, and fell down the ‘truscum’ pipeline bc algorithms promoted that shit, and I commented something nasty on Lars’ page bc I didn’t know any better, which I forgot about until now. I thought I was being a good trans ally, but I was just a misinformed kid who was being transphobic. Thankfully, my mom, a psychologist, talked some sense into me, and now I am an actual ally to trans individuals. This is so important for young queer folk to see because someone needs to combat the harmful content can find them.

When you said you were glad no one died I felt that. I sadly was also one of his fans, he completely warped my mind on what being trans meant and it was only after I watched contrapoints "transtrenders" video that I started accepting myself and questioning transmedicalism. And that made me think... If I was openly nonbinary during the transmedicalist era would I have been able to survive that social climate? It's a scary thought but it also gives a lot of insight to how other nb people might have felt. I'm very happy truscum and transmed are dying ideologies, I just really wish they didn't exist at all. It's thanks to people like you that transmascs can feel safe and understand themselves better, so thank you very much :]

If I'm being honest, Xanderhal shouldn't be speaking about any influential topics period. He's so insensitive and rude to his audience and subjects. After fact checking what he was saying in the first few streams I watched of him he gave out a _lot_ of misinformation, especially on lgbtq+ issues, and yet he presents things as if he's done extensive research on what he's talking about-- but with a simple google search you can see that he hasn't... I learned very early on to take his opinions and "facts and statistics" with a grain of salt and that he was on the toxic side of streaming with the likes of Ninja and xqc. He's not worth the time with all the issues around him, much like Kalvin. Maybe that's why he fought so hard for him. He sees a little of himself in Kal.

As funny as this sounds, I think when I realized that Kalvin was doing more harm than good, and was kinda a bigot, was when me and another trans friend were watching one of his videos. He called being trans a disease and my friend started laughing. I asked them what was funny and they started quoting the anti-gay Ugandan video that you might know as "Eat the poopoo", they specifically shouted the part where the guy goes, "ITS A SICKNESS YOU SEE!" We laughed about that for a few minutes, and when I finished, I realized that both of those videos had the same sentiment; hatred.

The far-right offers easy answers, “it’s the (insert demonized minority here) that made it this way.” I also just like went on Ifunny and there’s so much propaganda there, and starting down the alt-right pipeline can go much faster in a place like that, I was that standard white boy who made racist jokes and then they stopped being jokes at some point. There’s a lot of reasons but I’m not sure if I can ever say exactly WHY I became that way. It just happened before I realized it. I don’t know if I’ll ever understand what it was. I used to follow Kalvin when I was 15 because as a cis person I was trying to educate myself, but I failed to see how, even though he was trans, he was also a right-winger, and probably didn't have the best opinions. I ended up gatekeeping other people's identities... as a cis person. Because he convinced me that there were "good" and "bad" trans people. I eventually found other more progressive people to learn about gender and transgender identities, and I even found out that nonbinary is the label I'm more comfortable with :) Thanks for this video, I hope people don't have the same experience as me in the future if more people denounce him.
