The Worx AI Drill have been disappointing as a woodworking tool. I explain why and demonstrate what may be the perfect alternative.

Tom, we can't start new conversations in your community tab, so you might want to start a new chat about this topic, otherwise, our comments will have to go under your planer set screw topic, which doesn't exactly make sense. Scott

@@MyGrowthRings So just to clarify, I'm not planning on creating a post about the sale price. What I meant was that I certainly would not mind if you wanted to make a post on your channel (or where ever), after all you did find the deal.

Hi Tom, try the new Worx 177. It’s pretty fast and handy in wood working.

Thanks Patrick. If my current (old) version of the switch drive every breaks down I will definitely look at the brushless version.

When ever I need more power I pull out my fathers old 1/2” Milwaukee hole shooter he bought in the 70’s. You know, when you absolutely need to break your arm from the torque! 😬 Great video!

Hi Tom, nice presentation. Never heard of Worx tools before. I currently have Milwaukee drill set, their batteries charge extremely fast which I like. Good luck with Worx.

Thanks! I hear a lot of great things about the Milwaukee line. If it were not for battery compatibility I would definitely give them a try.

No, nope, nada….. I have Makita drill and rattle gun. By FAR!!!… the best. Absolutely without question. (Now here’s the caveat) I have no idea what I’ve said is true. No, erase that from your mind. I purchased Makita a number of years ago so I’m stuck - erase that too! Good on yuh. You have sir an interesting channel. Your presentation is very good. That said, go Makita!! 🤪😜🤜🤛👊 Good on yuh mate!

Tom… I know next to nothing about the Worx tools. My son-in-law has them and seems to like them. I’ve had this conversation numerous times about cordless tool systems. It usually starts with the declaration that.. “If the batteries were interchangeable…” A few points to make… Once a person invests in batteries, they rarely buy a different brand of tools. Mine are yellow, my neighbors are red, my other son-in-law uses grey/red… etc. The first widely available rechargeable tools were Sears Craftsman. If they had kept up with innovation… I suggest, most older homeowners might still be using the craftsman brand. Up until about 2005, sales of tool only (without batteries was rare). After that, batteries were common enough the sales were increased by not having to buy another battery. Almost all older companies have switched their battery types. Some companies made their L-ion batteries compatible with their Ni-cad tools. Others offer adapters. Many people changed brands when L-ion was introduced. This whole battery forced allegiance marketing concept has me intrigued… I wonder how many hobbyists, DIYers or pros have been pulled over to a different brand through innovation? You know, smart tech, brushless motors, universal voltage, etc,.? (Not counting the Social media influencers who get free tools.) I think, battery allegiance is a soft tyranny… one that makes sense for a marketing strategy. It allows competitors to entrap newbies into brand loyalty. While, reducing the will of the consumer to test or buy their competitors brands. So, in defiance, I’m gonna take a closer look at my son-in-laws Worx tools the next time I go over there… and you know what that means? Another trip to Florida! Which brings me to my point… thanks to this exposure to the Worx drill options. Now I know what to get him for his birthday! Tom, a most interesting comparison, indeed!

Exactly! I had the Ryobi One platform and got tired of buying batteries every 12 months. Just happed to have 2 Worx batteries at the time so it was cheapest to replace my Ryobi tools with Worx. There have been a few dudes, like the AI Drill, but most have been decent. It really is all about the specifications, regardless of the brand.

Man I love your channel. So deep into this. If you are looking for torque and speed what about a hammer drill?
@woodshopnerdery
@woodshopnerdery 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt. Glad you're liking the videos. I do have a corded hammer drill. It's great for drilling holes in concrete and with hammer off, a decent backup if my batteries go dead. I also have a Worx Impact Driver that I got during a deck build, and it has been good for construction lumber project or any softwood woodworking in my experience. I tried the impact driver out for working with harder woods, but I really don't like the impact driver for drilling or setting fasteners. A drill with a good clutch has been easier for me to work with.

Well done, Tom! Did you happent to notice that Amazon currently has the WX102L with the battery on sale for less than the bare tool alone? How about an affiliate link? Scott
@woodshopnerdery
@woodshopnerdery 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott, no I did not notice that. Wow that is a fantastic price! It's a lot of drill, 1/2 inch steel chuck and all. I got my WX102L (tool only) for Christmas, so I don't know what it cost us. I'm not planning on doing affiliate links, but if you would like to post one in your Community tab, I will be happy to re-share the post.
