I've been using both on a job for 8 months and I can say absolutely that cordless Festool on Bluetooth with Festool extractor wins %100 and its only a bit more pricey. If your taking the plunge go FEZ trust me! You also get free insurance and there warranty is faultless if something goes wrong. Been in the game 33 years.

You made no mention that Makita has a scoring function and can also lock the saw inside the trac. The scoring function is nice for cutting plywood veneers without tearout. The lock keeps the saw and guide act as one. Things like blade changes are minor importance for most woodworkers.

I got a real deal on the makita tracksaw, although it isn't the bluetooth version. Found it at a pawn shop almost new and talked them down to US $220 for the saw, cases, double charger and 2x5.0 ah batteries. I use this saw way more than I thought I would! It is great! I did have to get some tracks separately but it was worth it.

...and the Makita saw fits on the Wen tracks too. I needed short tracks for portability to jobs, and the 40" wen have been doing good so far. The splinter tapes and glide tapes moved when they got hot in my car. Track saws and then the cordless saws can really change workflow in a good way.

My company owns both festool and makita platforms. I was concerned buying the festool ts55 just from battery performance. From my experience makita battery’s last longer and the charger is twice as fast. Money really wasn’t a factor why we chose the makita however all the tracks purchased have been festool. Then buy mafell dust bag fits makita saw also.

G'day Scott. Would you go with battery or mains? You need a vacuum anyway, so is there a huge advantage in cordless? 🤔 I'm considering the DeWalt as it has the riving knife and the track is double sided. You can have one for bevel and the other for straight. The Makita seems to be the one most favoured on KZbin reviews for the price. Always looking forward to your next video. Thanks Bruce

Hi there! I don't see the benefit of a cordless tool, if you also hook it up to a vac. I love the Makita tracks and have a TS-55 myself. The riving knife was the reason for me. Sadly often underrated in its usefulness. I would tend to buy a Makita skill saw as I am also in the Makita system already. By the way: Wouldn't a crosscutting guide rail as a FSK 420 be useful for your work as a carpenter? Regards, Etna.
@sw5334
@sw5334 4 жыл бұрын
I also have the TS-55 and 75, I agree with you, don't see the need to cordless if you are hooking it to a vacuum, just plug it in and set to auto, no bluetooth to worry about. I actually just sold off my FSK/HK set up. Found I only really liked it for cutting stair stringers. Otherwise I have multiple mitre saw sizes I would rather use for cross cuts.It ended up being another tool I had to carry around but didn't use.
@Etna.
@Etna. 4 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I haven't used those tracks myself and was just wondering. In Germany it seems to be the case that without such a saw by Mafell you're not a real carpenter. Too expensive for me but everyone building a terrace seems to use them. I would just use my plunge saw with my DIY crosscut track. But hey, I don't this work so often.

There is lots of Makita users who are writing how good it is but I give you just few reasons why real professionals are using Festool or Mafell. 1) clients do pay for the finishing quality. When you make just once mistake when cutting because not so good depth regulation system, then you have lost easily more money that the price of the saw 2) When you have the kickback, the same results can be happening. If you brake valuable plate then you not only do not loose money of that plate (sometimes eg. kitchen countertops are having long delivery times, can be expensive) but also working time and it do cost money. If a worker do broke his wrist, then me as his bosss, are in deep trouble, not only he If you are cutting just plywood etc which are not finishing material, then you can use also the saw you buy from Lidl. I have one (bought because it was cheaper with guide rail that just the guide rail of Makita which fits to Festool) and I can work with it when there is not worries about the best quality

It's hard justifying a Festool purchase. But when I buy them and use them it's so nice to use. My track saw is 12 years old and used a lot in the shop and the site for ripping. Great for ripping hardwood boards to get one side straight so I can dimension the board on the table saw. Much easier this way.

BTW, I have been using a "remote" switch for my vacuum. $10 at Home Depot. It plugs into a wall receptacle and the vacuum plugs into it. The small remote button hangs on a lanyard around my neck. Just before I pull the trigger on whatever cordless tool I'm using, I push the remote and start the vacuum.

No riving knife on the makita though and they took the riving knife feature from the (cordless) festool *Pull hair* . A lot of people crying about it getting in the way - just make it removable. Wouldn't touch either saw if there isn't a riving knife. Battery is moot if you're tethered with a hose.

Saw a makita model KS511DZ, I believe a 5 inch self contained dust shroud circular saw, says it cuts 47mm at 90 degrees. Are these available over in your area? (not available in the USA) If yes - what are they pricing them at? they have a 12v and an 18v model, I am interested in the 18v which I believe is the model number I listed here. Thanks for festool vs Makita review - I am moving into the makita zone, just purchased the. Rear handle 7 1/4” circular 36v, comes with two 5ah batteries, double slot charger and the sale included 2 additional 5ah as a bonus for $249US , Home Depot has the bonus 5ah battery deals on many makita products until August I believe, so it's a no brainer to go with the Makita track saw. (I listed the pricing here as a reference for those not in the USA)

Im looking to buy a tracksaw, do you secure the track before cutting or simply lay it on top of the material and it stays put?

Its so fucking hilarious to hear Scott say "Oh now there's dust all over the ground." For us chippy's who still aren't as EVOLVED and don't have vacuums- that's like a small amount of dust LOL. Fuck I need to get one... I'm tired of sweeping, man.

Aarrrghhhhh ... bought the Makita yesterday on special. Didn't think to get the bluetooth! I've got a Festool vac, didn't realise the Makita had a plug-in bluetooth unit. Back to the shop in the morning! Saved by another exciting video from Scott Brown Carpentry ... Thanks! PP

Some Festool stuff is only slightly more than top end tools from other brands like jigsaws but everything else in their line up is other worldly for price. So many brands are stepping up their game these days that you really don’t need Festool.

Nice comparo! We're so spoilt by the variety of tools available these days! Gotta love technology. I still rock a true cordless hand saw from time to time. No batteries, no cord, no vacuum. The way it works the hell out of my right bicep, no gym membership needed 😂😂 #Respect for the nation builders who did all the work by hand back in the day!!

The Festool Bluetooth sender to activate the Vacuum is on the Batteries. So you must have had Batteries without Bluetooth. Or you don’t have a Bluetooth receiver in your Vacuum. For your Festool Vacuum there is a receiver available. I have it on my older Festool CTL36EAC as well. 😉

I find that hard to believe. I purchased the Makita cordless, 2 - 55" rails, and 4 batteries for less than the Festool corded with one 55" rail. I added the Makita 39" rail which tipped me $20 over the Festool corded with the one rail. Note that I did not buy the bluetooth model. Instead I use a simple remote control outlet with the remote attached to my saw. An extra button push but it has worked well.

At that price point I chose mafel mt 55c corded version. Best tracks ever, high torque cuprex motor, quiet enough considering its a saw, 0 dust when used with vacuum(this was the first thing I had tested, in the house on carpet under very bright led light, couldnt see or taste any dust ☺ and that was with crap shop vac), sturdy and stable clamps very fast to set (not needed for most jobs as tracks wont slip even on high gloss materials), very quick bewel set one lever only for both sides that goes -1° to 48°, etc... I was suspicious about lack of second handle, now I understand why it isnt needed. Can use it on other tracks like makita and festool if needed. Or I would have went for makita, couldnt justify the price of festool with ther low quality underpowered motors.

@samsingh2042 everybody knows that but still they are buying track saw with battery. Vacum with battery is not efficient, only if you are using for cuts, if you need cleanig customer house after drilling walls, conecting cabinets...battery one is not good.Im now with makita tools and batterys system and I love it. Biscut joiner, drills ect. I tryed festool tracksaw and vacum with my coleague carpenter and that feeling of using festool tools is great. Souch better touch and details better than on any other tool. I own einhell track saw with cmt blade and karcher industrial vacum all corded. All together 300€. Geting jobs done with new blade 58 tooth super clean cuts, razor sharp. Already two weeks Im watching youtube videos about track saws and vacums...Festool ts 55 battery version 1300€, festool corded vacum midi 1 700€. 2000€. Why I dont go with makita system same setup for 1000€ with 18V batteries which I already own. Or why I dont stay with not profesional einhell and karcher which paid themselfe 20 times and get job done. ..bla bla you canot come to customer house with non professional tool, you dont look serious...its not that. Its sickness to spend money on things which you maybe dont need in that moment but you dreaming about it.🤪🤗 pardon me on my english, gretings from croatia

Is it odd that they don't wire for the vacuum right inside the hose? Why bother with Bluetooth? The hose should be the connection to tell the vacuum to start and stop. No?

I use mine to cut down sheet goods at the home center, and have a cordless vac to use with it, so I’m not leaving AS big of a mess, like a jerk, but if you have a vehicle large enough for full sheets (van, truck, etc) that’s not as useful a feature.
