I think a better question to ask would be this. "Lets say there is a two state solution reached that you think is fair. Do you want that the area you live should become palestinian thereby losing israeli citizenship. Or that your town remain under israeli control". This question would be more revealing. Please promote this comment. I really want corey to ask this.

Did you stop watching there? How about the person who said that she may lose her job, education, ability to travel freely, her "rights", based on what she says. Maybe those people had no answer or maybe they thought it seemed like this guy was stirring up trouble for them by recording them saying something that could affect them negatively. If somebody knows that you are the type of person that will punch them in the face if you don't like their answer, and then that person does not answer a question you ask them, it doesn't necessarily mean they didn't have an answer to your question. It means they know better than to say what will get them punched in the face.

04:28 the translation didn't provide the right context, he was referring to Arab crime within Arab communities, which he feels is not addressed properly by the Israeli police and so personal safety for Arabs is compromised. There is a huge problem of illegal weapons and gun violence in Arab communities, as well as violence against women ("honor killing"). Someone outside of Israel would not have this context.
@ElizabetaDante
@ElizabetaDante 5 ай бұрын
Someone outside Israel HAS this context. The Muslims are invading Europe and look the destruction now. Stabbing is the normal nowadays. Not to speak about gang raping, honor killings, all kinds of terrorism etc etc etc They behave like mafia and have no moral values

Yes, I didn’t understand this. Thank you for clarifying. Living outside of Israel, I would never even have considered this issue. Yes, crime rate in Arabs cities skyrocket. Therr are several factors to blame here- Arab mentality is tribal, so gangs looks like the 40's mafia on speeds. Anyone can be the next victim or perpatratuor, regardless of criminal record. Plus policing has become a political issue, as clash between police and Arab criminal is turning into general unrest (like black americans in the US). That being said, formal Israel was too comfortable with leaving Arabs citizens to handle it themselves, not acting as it should and further strengthning the "bad" forces inside Arabs society rather than the positive@@GODSSON810810

I'm an Israeli Arab. Every single Arab in Israel saying their situation is worse than Arabs in nearby countries is a flat out LIAR. In Israel you get cheap education, you even have bonus points to get into universities over jewish people, you don't have to serve in the army. I'm not saying there are absolutely equal rights, and that there are no issues between Arabs and Jewish people in Israel, but its a FACT that every Arab in Israeli has it BETTER than arabs in nearby countries. Those who say they are "Palastinians" when they were born in ISRAEL, raised in ISRAELI culture (mixed arab, jewish, western and middle eastern) is either ignorant, or stupid. Israel is a young country, but there is definitely such thing as an Israeli culture, and identity, it's a complicated one, but it exists, it's not entirely middle eastern, and it's not entirely western, it's a mix, and it's deifnitely not fucking "palastinian".

I'll never forget when I was at a bar (yes, a bar) in Ramallah in 2018 chatting with some locals. A man from Haifa storms in, almost yelling at the other patrons "Why are you guys wasting your time here when you can move to Haifa, speak Arabic, make money, get education, and have a better life for your family?" He went on and on about how great Israel was for Arabs and was angry with these men sitting around complaining about the situation in the West Bank. It really stuck with me.

The occupation has made it hard for people in the west bank to make a living. A permit is needed in order for someone in the west bank to enter Jerusalem. Well, they don't want to speak of it publicly, it doesn't mean they don't have an example. There are tons of examples - crime rates, police brutality, building permissions, political representation (the Arab parties at Knesset almost never enter the government). Underfunding of Arab regions, poor school education. Problems with freedom of speech and the right to protest. Also, routine discrimination in spheres of employment, housing rental, harassment by far right wing Israelis. It's not that there are no opposite examples of having rights and being successful - they have access to National Insurance aid, good healthcare, achievable high education. One third of healthcare professionals are Israeli Palestinians (48), as well as half of pharmacologists. Muslim women's rate of receiving high education is pretty high these days. But there are a lot of problems as well.

Dozens of mideast communities of 50-200K Jews have vanished because of that persecution. That's the main reason Israel was voted into being by the UN. Mizrahi and Sephardic Jews had nowhere to go. That's also why the majority of original Israeli Jews came from the region rather than Europe as so many falsely assume.

You're right. In general, Palestinians having an Israeli citizenship feel they can be thrown away for any excuse and feel that that's what most Israeli Jews wish for them. In the 2000s, Lieberman wanted to get rid of as many Palestinians as possible, he considered recognising the Palestinian state and give them bordering territories with Palestinian villages but they would lose the Israeli citizenship. I'm a Palestinian citizen of Israel (Arab-Israeli) I agree that, in many ways, our lives as Arabs in Israel are better, and we’re better off being Israeli citizens. We have access better healthcare and opportunities. But that doesn’t change the fact that many of us still identify as Palestinians. The reality is that most Arabs and Jews in Israel are essentially segregated. Arab towns are Arab towns, Jewish towns are Jewish towns, and even in mixed towns, Arabs mostly stick to themselves, and so do Jews. As nice as the idea of coexistence sounds, it doesn’t really exist apart from work or university - and even then, it’s mostly for transactional reasons. I grew up in an all-Arab town, and my upbringing was as close to Palestinian culture as it can get. Sure, my school had an Israeli flag at the entrance, and I learned Hebrew since age 10, but most are raised with Palestinian heritage and culture. Heck, my first real encounter with a Jewish Israeli wasn’t until I was 19, in university - not because I chose so, but just because that’s how things are in the country. The Palestinian identity is naturally engraved in Arab-Israeli minds, amplified by the constant wars between Palestine and Israel, by the systematic racism in Israeli law, by day-to-day struggles, and the list goes on. Palestinians/Arabs in Israel with an Israeli passport are very different from Palestinians/Arabs in America or elsewhere.

Interesting question not a judgement just my observations as an outsider of the 2 political groups of people living in these areas. “Arab israelis” include Bedouin + Druze but this video mostly interviewed people who would consider themselves “palestinian citizens of Israel” Arab israelis/Palestinian citizens of Israel Pros: equality under Israeli civil law, true freedom of movement and travel, political rights, higher wages, access to good universities, living on ancestral land (ie were not displaced in 48) Cons: feeling that the Israeli state doesn’t represent their interests (their sense of belonging), less close knit family ties, expensive cost of living, some discrimination (eg some Israeli towns have housing communities that will de facto not allow arabs), some segregation (nothing like Hebron in WB for ex) West Bank Palestinians Pros: lower cost of living, strong family ties especially in villages, sense of identity is more prominent, Cons: living under Israeli military occupation/martial law/kibosh however u call it, freedom of movement not guaranteed (checkpoints between villages), subject to military raids and arrest without due process, difficult economic conditions, violence with some more extreme settler communities, some live in refugee camps uncertain political future

@om1ri
@om1ri 5 ай бұрын
As an Israeli, I think you got it mostly right, but with some key points missing on the cons for both. For Palestinian citizens of Israel: the high crime rate in Palestinian villages and communities, this is often overlooked or not getting the attention it deserves by the police which leads to even more crime, thus exacerbating the problem. There’s also the point of living as a minority in a land in which historically they were the majority: the lack of representation in government, the inability in influence decisions at the state level, the lack of acknowledgment of their culture and way of life, and latent discrimination and racism by both the establishment and many Israeli Jews; they’re basically experiencing the historic “Jewish experience”, except they’re not Jewish. For Palestinians in the WB: many aren’t only living as refugees, but also inextricably as dispossessed of their ancestral lands and identity. In Arab culture, one’s family land and one’s identity is often linked, which makes this a huge point of contention. The guy in 13:30 says he doesn’t feel like he lives under occupation because he “lives on his land, where his father and grandfather lived” - this sentence carries with it cultural significance which simply doesn’t exist in most Western cultures; land in this culture is a significant part of one’s identity, so living on the land which your family lived on for generations is tantamount to keeping your identity, what make you you, as if he’s saying “I don’t feel like my identity is being erased” - he doesn’t feel under occupation because his family’s land is theirs, it wasn’t taken from them. For many in the WB, this is not the case.

@@om1riimagine how much the land is part of the Jewish identity then, after 3500 years. We ALL feel identified with the land we’re born into. I was born in Australia and I feel indigenous to this beautiful place.

Arabs have 22 countries. Most Arabs living there migrated from nearby territories of Ottoman empire. Majority of Gazans are Egyptians. Israel has a lot of patience with those opportunists. Maybe it would be better for them in Afghanistan. I can give a list what I dont like in my country in Europe.

Gazans are not egyptians. They are genetically native levantines stop the cope their dna is known. Arab is cultural-linguistic identity not genetic. By ancestry only gulf arabs or bedouins in north arabia/negev/upper mesopotamia are actual arabs.

As always, you see the young, "educated", smart-alec Israeli Arabs of the North, with their plates full, talking about how their situation is so much worse than other Arabs. Not to talk about the failing logic skills, "if you compare us to Palestinians in Ramallah, no we don't get what we deserve". Lady, CAN YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION? What do you deserve?
