Living in Texas all of my 73 years, I haven’t had an opportunity but three times to see mountains. I remember about 14 years ago I had an opportunity to drive my Uncle JB, Aunt Merle, and their friend Joyce to Ridgecrest for a Gospel Retreat. It was about Oct.10th I believe, and I got to drive and see the mountains. At one point, I had to pull over and park and just take in the most glorious Fall colors of trees I had ever seen. To take in God’s beautiful beautiful world. We were in North Carolina, and I am so thankful my Uncle asked me to drive them. He wanted to drive it but he was about 87, so his kids talked him into asking me to. My mother, his sister, had just passed, so since I didn’t have to take care of her, I was very eager to go. Y’all are so blessed to live there. Thank you again for sharing.❤️✝️🙏🍁🍂

Thank you for sharing your trip up to Brasstown Bald. What a beautiful view of the Southern Appalachian Mountain range. It’s amazing that you could see for miles in all directions. Being able to view and track a few hawks from that vantage point was a pleasant bonus! Your family seems to get along so well. Sharing family time together is so important as we go through life. I live at the base of a 10k foot mountain that I take for granted. I was struck by Katie’s comment about there being something more than us. I felt that exact way the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, which I recommend if you ever get the chance. The first words out of my mouth at my first glimpse of it was, “There is a God,” which I always knew, but it really reinforced it for me.

What a fun day! You know, Clingmans Dome also has a lookout you can hike up to. It looks almost identical to the hike and lookout y'all were at, only you can see the mountain y'all were on from it. I had the joy of being in Israel during a massive bird migration. All week we saw thousands of birds of different varieties and sizes passing over us throughout the day. We saw eagles, storks, and a great variety of birds from Africa and else where. It was so impressive.

thank u girls i’ve really been missing the mtns. i think instead of going to cherokee n see friends n family i might go there u can really see alot more of Gods beauty at once n Corie i was outside couple weeks ago n had my phone sitting on my stove listening to music n couldn’t get to it n time cuz my hip to take a pic of a Broad-winged Hawk but oh he’s was gorgeous n circled above me 3xs before he headed South, i thought of u as i tried to get to my phone i usually see several n even have a nest within 50 ft from my door i’ll try n get some pics in spring for u!!! Katie give that anxiety to God i did last year after i found myself curled up in a fetal position on the floor during a storm he told me to turn on the music loud n read his word out loud n 1 day it was gone!!! What a great place! There’s a place sort of like that called The Blue Hills because from a distance they look smoky blue. There’s an active weather station at the top of Big Blue, the tallest hill in the 7 mile range. It’s the oldest, continuously operating weather station in North America! I used to volunteer & give tours up there in the castle-looking building that houses the weather station so, when John suggested we get married at the summit I phoned Don, the education director & asked if we could do that. Of course he said that was fine. So on our big day, John, me & our minister & friend, Ray proceeded to the top of the tower. I never get tired of that view! In the fall, it was October 8, the colors spread out below like a beautiful quilt of reds, oranges, gold & green. We said our vows at our favorite place in our locale. & Ray, who’d never been inside the observatory, got a private tour from ME! AS I’m gonna be 65 in November I felt stupid in a white wedding dress! John really wanted to wear his special occasion Native American jewelry but would put on a suit if I wanted. I love his native stuff, it’s beautiful polished silver & stones. So I found a dress that was a pretty shade of green, like a deep forest green..appropriate color. And it was a faux suede dress that looked like a suit due to the little peplum at the waist. I thought it was kinda like the buckskin Natives wear so I went with that. AND…IT ONLY COST ME $4 ON EBAY!!! After we said our vows, John played a blessing song on his native flute. It was hard to play as it was so windy..& my hair-do got messed up but it was a magical day. Oh..I forgot the reason for this…as we were up top of the tower in that vastness of pretty, a red tailed Hawk was floating on the air current, just kept circling around us & up & down having fun. I took that as an additional blessing. Maybe from my mom who I miss soo much? Happy Day, girls. You’re looking so lovely as always! XO love❤️❤️😻

Cool day trip! My Ma-maw took me up there way back when there wasn't a van shuttle, or at least not that she was willing to take. I agree with Austin, we need more prescribed burns and fuel removal around homes. Seeing the excitement in Katie's eyes on the van tour makes me want to return to my old job in Yellowstone, maybe someday. And I agree, the beauty of nature makes the presence of God feel without a doubt!

We have red-tailed hawks around our house here in Florida. You should have gone into the museum - it’s really nice. I love the hike down, but the hike up is a killer! We went to Brasstown Bald many times while living in Blairsville. It’s a great place to take visitors.

I haven’t been to Brasstown Bald since I was a teenager and I’m 71. Looks like they have spruced things up and apparently are charging folks to go to the top. I was born in Atlanta at Crawford Long Hospital. My son was born at Northside Hospital. I love seeing things from back home. Can you see Stone Mt. or Kennesaw Mt? I can’t remember. Katie, if you were nervous going up that mountain, you should come to Montana and drive on the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National park. Sheer drop offs.
