Thank You for the memories. It's been so long ago, but tonight I remembered teaching this in Sunday School around Thanksgiving & our town Library to a room full of children. They loved it!!!! I recognized the pages you showed of directions & like you, I probably still have them. As our daughters are 40 & 46 now, it has been a long time ago!!! But such a HAPPY Time. I'm still a sentimental soul & so glad I have come across you on U-tube. May God Bless You & Yours, Sharol Aid Cleveland, Texas

That's a nice memory with the children. I kept the directions because I wrote the article, but I'm missing the page showing the large quilting bee. When I saw the date of 1988, I realized how much time had passed.

I started making cornhusk dolls for a Girl Scouts project, we harvested our own corn husks from a farmer’s field, soaked corn husks in glycerin and water and made simple dolls! I became fascinated with them and went on to make signed dolls in vignettes, making baskets and flowers from corn husks. Also Christmas trees of corn husk, with candles made with dipped thread. It was quite a business for a country wife! I love your painted faces and delightful ladies! Blessed and safe days!

I am so glad you and Violet made the dolls; she may enjoy a video I am working on using the cornshuck dolls to decorate a Pioneer Christmas tree. Hi Violet!

We will be sure to watch it. For some reason when ever I watch “Hopalong Hollow” or “ Garden Answer”, Violet comes running to see. She was thrilled that you greeted her by name.

A delightful video, how I would love to try these gorgeous little dolls with my Granddaughter, when she comes over from Australia. Thank you so much Gerri, stay well and stay safe. Much love.

Your corn husk dolls are absolutely delightful and I love Queen Bess, what a work of art they all are! As well, the pumpkin soup looked so yummy with the lovely table setting. You're so multi-talented and thankyou for sharing your knowledge with us. Cheers from New Zealand.

Always nice to hear from New Zealand, I wonder if this craft is well known in your part of the world?

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow There is alittle interest in the craft particularly at craft fairs etc both here and Australia but probably not widely known about.

Do try the soup, but add a mashed up sweet potato, I forgot that clip in the recipe.

How did I miss this last month??? This brought back so many memories of time with my children making corn husk dolls when they were young. My youngest is now in her 40's so that's been quite a while ago - actually before your pattern was published. I wish it had been available earlier. You remember how hard it was to learn crafts like this before the advent of the computer. As for corn cob uses. I have actually seen them used as chinking in a log cabin!

It's amazing to see the uses for such seemingly mundane "throwaways" like the corn cobs. I agree, Nowadays, if you wish to learn any craft, it's easily researched online.

I have cornhusk flowers that I purchased 25+ years ago at the festival in Berea in many colors and designs. I also have some natural from the Appalachian Artisan Center in Hindman. If anyone is ever in Eastern Kentucky it's a beautiful drive on the Little Shepherd Trail, stop at the overlooks at Kingdom Come State Park, and visit the craft and art centers. A lovely area of the US.

Of course, we love Berea and do the festival every year, ( except this one of course) Kentucky is wonderful.

When you first started making the corn husk dolls I thought this will be boring, but I was so wrong. They were amazing! I loved them.

This was lovely, as always! I made corn husk dolls back in the 70's but I did not dye them... Now I would love to do some with colour! I had forgotten all about making them until I watched this video. I make squash soup, almost the same way as you made this soup. The apples add such an amazing flavour to these vegetables. Thanks for sharing Jeri!
