@brandongodwin25396 жыл бұрын
jabanoba honestly most of the cheaper (though that's a relative term) parts aren't going to give you big increases in power, without a retune. I mean, you might get a hp here or there, and maybe make your car sound better. And tunes are not cheap, you'll need to spend money on a standalone (don't waist money on a piggy back) around $1k and a tune anywhere between a few hundred and a thousand dollars. After you return your car with bolt on parts, you're still only looking at around 15 to 30hp increase depending on upgraded parts. If you want real increases in a smaller engine like this, you honestly need to start thinking about boost. A small amount of boost with a smaller turbo will go a long way on a stock engine, I promise! You'd need to budget about $3.5k-5k, though, to do it reliably.
@jabanoba6 жыл бұрын
Brandon Godwin I would love to be boosted, I'm just hesitant cuz I don't want to break stuff. With a turbo would I still get a noticeable power increase if I run it to where it isn't stressing everything else too much?
@brandongodwin25396 жыл бұрын
jabanoba this video is of my old setup when I was only 225whp (probably 250ish crank hp). Besides aftermarket cams, which do nothing for engine strength, this is a completely stock engine. It was tuned with a piggy back instead of a full standalone so which is why the check engine light is on. This set-up lasted a very long time (over 5 years as a daily driver), at which time a fully built an engine for more hp. The engine never died on me. I guess my point is, I don't care what anyone says, this is proof that the car can handle boost very well AS LONG AS YOU GET A GOOD TUNER TO TUNE IT.

@@malx7756 a piggy back connects to your stock ecu. It modifies the fueling and timing signals being sent from your ecu to allow your car to run with your turbo upgrade or whatever other upgrades you've done. Once the tuning was complete, I think I had to go back 20 times because my ecu would fight back and compromise the tune after a few days. I finally gave up and just drove the car a couple of years before going full standalone ecu. The differences are night and day. I should have done that from the beginning. I have met a few other people that had the exact same experience with their Toyota. In short, piggy back just isn't the best option for our cars. Yes, people do it. And there are some people in KZbin that won't admit it, but the software is a real pain in the ass. I'm just trying to be honest to save you the money and time. Tuning softwares aren't cheap, then having it tuned is expensive in itself. Just do it right the first time. As for me, I'm now using the Hydra Nemesis standalone and I love it! I'll check out some of your newer videos. These 1zz engines don't get a lot of love it seems.
@brandongodwin25395 жыл бұрын
@@IntelGoesHard To be honest, the bottom end isn't the first problem to consider with raising your rpm limit, it's your top end. The stock 1zz valvetrain is already near it's potential at 6500. If it were me, I wouldn't even raise it without upgrades. I now have MWR valve springs/retainers and my tuner still thought it was best to only raise the limit to 7200. Now they make even stiffer springs out there for the 1zz, but they're expensive and cause excessive wear on the engine head as they really pound the valves back up into their seats. Unfortunately, the 1zz just isn't the right engine to start with if you're wanting a long lasting extremely high revving engine. It is capable of making decent power gains though with the right engine build. Now, that being said, the bottom end IS the limiting factor to the overall power the engine seems to make. Much higher than 400 and the bottom end struggles, mainly due to the weak bearing and oiling engineering (Even using aftermarket parts). Of course, you can rev as high as the engine let's you and add as much power as you want, but when the engine takes an extremely early crap on you, you'll see where the limits actually are, which a few r&d professionals have thankfully already done for us 1zz guys.
@IntelGoesHard5 жыл бұрын
@@brandongodwin2539 I'm aware that I'd need valvetrain upgrades to handle higher RPM. I was looking at Crower cams and MWR valve springs last night. This is all hypothetical anyway. I'm thinking about swapping my Prius with a normal ICE and so far the Corolla engines have been looking the easiest for a few reasons including affordability. A 1zz swap with manual trans is stupid cheap. Not dead set on the 1zz though. I've been reading that the 1zz head is a poorly flowing head in general which sucks and the engine has a long stroke which negates a lot of my high RPM dreams.
