1:51:54 - I felt so sorry for Raquel rushing into marrying Curly mainly to feel 'safe' and get away from Des, who she was obviously still in love with. Yes, the marriage put Des in his place and sent out a very strong 'you can't use me anymore' message, but it was a bad decision all round, because Curly was madly in love with Raquel but knew all along she wasn't (with him), so both entered married life with a sinking heart. Des would always bounce back, as his heart was never really in it with anyone, so if Raquel's intention was to find safety and security for herself (she did temporarily) and punish Des at the same time, it was bound to fail, and it did.

I can't understand Rita's attitude towards the money she gifted Kevin and Sally. It's as if she (Rita) still wanted control of the money and a say in how it was spent. Controlling behaviour that was very unbecoming. Mostly I liked Rita a lot, but this was not a good side to her.
@shylinh59392 жыл бұрын
Rita was lonely and dissatisfied with her life. She didn't get the family she wanted, her foster daughters disappointed her and, aside from Mavis, she didn't really have anyone in her life. The money to the Websters was more of a purchase than a gift, she wanted their time and a place in their lives. That they loaned or gave some of the money to Bill, who was a member of the family, reminded her that she wasn't. With her illusion ruined she was overcome with the pain of what she saw as rejection, etc. Poor Rita, but she wasn't always that nice, she bullied Mavis for what seemed like her own amusement sometimes, especially in earlier episodes. And she dealt with the matter of deciding not to go ahead with the deal Bet proposed over the Rovers very badly.

1:18:51 - Prelude to The Big Fight: Rita vs. Sally. Rita rarely annoyed me, I really liked her, but in this situation she let herself down by being a gigantic hypocrite. Back in March 1994, when Rita gave Kevin and Sally £5,000 she said the words, "no strings attached - the only motivation is friendship." Fast-forward a year and a half, and Rita is suddenly mortally offended that Kevin is using the money for something Rita didn't get asked for her approval of, and does not agree with! You said, "no strings attached!", Rita! Sally was right on the money this time, no pun intended.

I saw it myself for the first time a couple of months back. I agree, a bit of a damp squib. Almost a bit slapstick but not very funny - I mean as if Raquel and Curly would accept having to work on their honeymoon. They’d have made Alec walk the plank for getting them such a rotten deal lol!

@@EveHenleySpread I was one of those people who bought the VHS tape. There was quite a bit of controversy at the time about it being shown on TV so soon after the release of the video and so they “compensated” us with a free Corrie book. The problem was that true fans like me already had the book. I got my free one anyway and gave it away to a friend 😝

I remember the predictable headlines about it - CON A NATION STREET etc! It was fun but a bit self indulgent and once you’d watched it once, I don’t think you’d be too fussed about viewing it again. I think Granada realised they were onto a money spinner though cos they went on to release further spin offs. The Las Vegas one with Jack, Vera, Fiona and Maxine was pointless, and wasn’t there one called A Knight’s Tale. Same with Bev Callard’s fitness vids, kinda takes away the credibility of their characters. I’ve seen snippets of Lynne Perrie’s alternative workout one too, so much cringe! 🤦♂️ 🙄

Whenever he talks he accompanies his speech with facial twitches, grimaces, ticks, Gurns, twisting, it looks as if he is suffering from St Vitus Dance!! Is it his character or is Simon Gregson on something? He didnt behave like this before, Only when he started betting on the GeeGees & Casinos, making pots of dosh just like his hero Mike Baldwin, who Steve tries to emulate but doesnt have the Push, drive & determination & gaul with charm, Steve is too wet behind the ears!
