Unquestionably!! Bet was the heart and soul of Corrie for me, she had every facet to her character.. the toughness and yet at times so vulnerable! For me it was NEVER the same without her! Shame her short lived return in 2002 was so naff!

2:29:40 This is a classic scene. Bet is wearing all black. Look at her expressive eyes. Without pulling faces, tears and altering the tone of her voice, she communicates great emotion. This is testament to an actress who had put her heart and soul into the characterisation for 25 years. ❤

At the beginning of 'the thing' to keep me company, as I live on my own way out in the countryside, I went back as far as was possible, which in 2020, was 1975 & I just dropped out in 1996, as I no longer like all the characters & storylines. Some of the channels that had uploaded all those shows have been taken down, but they slowly get put back up 😅. So, maybe for fun look at some of the eps from the 60s & early 70s, but for for the most available shows start mid 70s, also the show starts to pick up from around then. Good luck.

Ive done or nearly done the whole kit & Kaboodle from the 1st episode of Corrie in late 1960 through every year until this current Oct 1995!! Its taken me over 6 solid weeks of watching! I 1st made a file & put every episode on it ( bar missing earlier ones) to make the follow ons easier to find from my created list. I found Professional Gun 66, then the really early black & white episodes from a channel called Auntie Corrie, then the bulk from EveHenleySpread There are many videos with missed episodes on, i watch these at the end of each year pertaining to each set of missed ones. There are single episodes from small utubers that are widely scattered! Also one off specials like a full video of Elsie, Gail & Suzy episodes Other vids like Corrie Secrets .... Barmaids, Deaths, Hunks, Bad Girls, Kens list of girlfriends over the years, Corrie Kids etc Im so ensconced in my cozy abode watching all these thousands of Corries from Number 1 I thoroughly recommend it, its like going back in time. The very early 1960s & 70s Corries are BRILLIANT! Regards 🇬🇧👧

That's it for me, thank you for all the uploads. I know there are more, but as soon as Julie Goodyear left, that's it for me. I wish Julie had never left the show, but what can you do, not as if we can turn back time and make her stay on. Only thing that gets me is that I wish Bet Lynch had been given a good sending off and a happy ending she deserved, she was the heart, the soul and the only one who genuinely cared about everyone on the street. Anyway, thank you again for all the uploads. It's embarassing, but I had tears in my eyes as I watched this compilation, haha.

Me too Kuchi, me too, please see my main reply to this. I'm just trying to see the end of a few storylines, then I intend to head off also. I see Curly & Raquel are about to Marry in a few months, this also leads to the first feature length spin off, where they & some others go on a cruise, I'd like to see that & luckily we can on YT via Concepta Hewitts channel. I see there are some awful characters on the way though, really dragging the Street down't pit, so I have no intention of witnessing the start of the long, slow demise to what I imagine is an identity politics driven mess of today. Sad.

I always loved Bet, her and Hilda were Coronation Street to me. I think Rita very soon forgot who was the one who came looking for her and found her singing in that hotel, suffering a breakdown and memory loss after Alan Bradley, and brought her home... Some friend Rita turned out to be when Bet needed support, she was about to lose everything she knew, and it was Rita's idea to go into the pub in the first place, she just took the pip cos the cat got let out of the bag early...that really put me right off her character ☹

That whole scene at 2:19:20 was incredibly painful to watch and probably one of the most cringeworthy ever. Steve just came across as a complete moron and creep. Why is he talking in that really breathy voice? And as for the faces he pulls certainly made for some uncomfortable viewing. Watching Bet's hopes crumble away because of him didn't help either.

Annie Walker may have been the first landlady of "The Street" but for my money, Bet Lynch was the best. Unlike Annie who always thought she was a cut-above everyone around her, Bet thought of herself on the same level as her patrons and staff. Kind, caring but firm and assertive when needed, she was no pushover. But she also deeply cared about the community where she lived and was there if anyone needed help. It's a pity that no was there for her when she needed it the most.

I think the producers or writers really missed a trick when they brought in the Malletts. Ian Mercer had already played Pete Jackson in 1987, an old army pal of Terry Duckworth's, and Terry had ruined the friendship by having an affair with and then running off with Pete's wife. So why not bring Ian Mercer back as Pete, his original role? We know Terry had broken up his marriage, so he could have returned with a new wife - Judy. That would also have given scope to a new or ongoing drama between Pete and Terry when the latter returned to the street and found his old rival living in his parents house. I've always felt the Malletts were a missed opportunity, they should have been the Jacksons, with Judy as his second wife.

That's kind of a common thing on American soaps. But it's normally temporary and they will announce, "the role of so and so, will be played by (actors name,)"and they announce it the first time the appear daily on the show for a CPL weeks and it becomes their new role some times. Other times its temporary and they reappear on same show or dif soap as a new person sometime in the future.

I'm only at like 1:35 I wonder if Mavis fesses up to Rita that it was her that told Bet, Rita is saying yes and the accountant was all for it, and I am really curious why Bet hasn't tried to get a loan for half, even if she asked for it from Vicky. Then they both have $ invested and both taking a financial risk.
@lynnem3300
@lynnem3300 8 ай бұрын
Yes. Surely Bet could have used the pub as collateral for a loan, just like the scenario she described to Vicky? And it seems like there was little or no discussion between Rita and Bet about a creative solution to the problem. Likewise Alf "moneybags" Roberts offered no real help, he just put the knife in. So it was all rushed through to its terrible conclusion way too fast.

I love the Duckies. Compared to the excruciating Derek and Mavis and Reg and his buffoonery, they are a classic Coronation couple. They need to work and have an excellent love hate chemistry. I look forward to their pub years before Alec returns to screw them. So much hatred directed at them. They are defined as rough and poor. They have had a few windfalls and lost. At the end of of the day, they are human! During the Tyrone years it was hard not to appreciate them taking him in as a son.

Gasp, so, the Queen is dead! Having now watched it again, I'm remembering the feelings I had when originally seeing Bet's departure, upon its first broadcast & they weren't good. What a horrible & frankly poorly thought out exit for La Goodyear, did she agree to this storyline, perhaps she wasn't asked & she just wanted out, does anyone know? No where to go, no money to speak of, few clothes, as mentioned by the cast & no future,, how was that supposed to be a fitting end for one of the shows most memorable characters?! I remember thinking at the time things like, is that it, is she coming back, what happened, is she OK, even the cast is confused,, how is that a good end? But no, there's worse, they even make Bet miss, arguably her best friends wedding, just a day after her departure, when there was NO reason for this, in real life, Bet would have stayed for this event, making Bet look really bad. They also made Bet handle the Rita situation terribly, again making her look bad, but this was in service of this awful missive of a story. Backing Bet into a corner of existential dread, with everyone letting her down, was sad & disappointing for the audience then & now; proving, should proof be needed, that highly paid writers & producers have no more idea what they're doing than your elderly Granny, throwing her knitting at the screen in indignant protest. We'll meet again though dear Bet, we shall meet again.......

I see your point, but Bet loved that place more than anything and would only have left by being forced out or by leaving in a box. It was really the only thing they could have done without killing her off and it was in keeping with her character of not being very successful in life and of being let down by others. I also get the impression that they were keeping the door open for her for a while in hopes of her coming back. Putting the clueless Duckworths in the Rovers seems to back this up.
@Chillmax
@Chillmax 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevenhighams4190 I also see your point, but not true, they could have easily written a love story & that she was so head-over-heels for the man, that her heart ruled over her head & she wanted nothing more than to drive off into the sunset with the man of her dreams. But no, they want to be as miserable as Eastenders & to contrive a plot that was worthless, mean spirited & gave no comfort to the audience. It's a classic stupid writer ploy, 'I don't know what I'm doing & I don't know how to get anyone out of this, I know, let's make everyone miserable!' Cut to nearly 30 years later & writers can barely hold a pen or even spell the word plot, just make it all sad, stick a rainbow flag on it, a wheelchair under it, or get someone who looks like Diane Abbot to ruin everything. Do I sound bitter, you betchya, I used to enjoy TV/ Film, now all that's left of the tatters of entertainment is the past, at least they can't touch that, although they gave it a good try here, but Bet's memory lives on despite the pathetic scribble of these writers - Don't Fall For It. Nurse, my tablets!!

@@Chillmax Well, I don't watch it now and haven't for about five years. I watched it for about twenty years longer than I should have done, but having begun watching it when I was three, purely in the hope that my parents would forget it was my bedtime, it was definitely just a habit by then. This is like 1969 to about 2015, but I grew up watching all the greats, so it's pretty sad to see what it became. I've never liked Eastenders and I think it started the rot, with the corny melodrama and relentless misery and everyone inter-breeding and all living and working in the same vicinity - it's an insult, really. Seeing the likes of Gail always brawling with other women, when it's so out of character. That awful pie in Deirdre's face thing. I remember them as young women and never dreamed they'd end up having nothing to do with each other for many years and then degrading themselves like that when they finally do, I didn't think it was funny. All I could think about was how Gail Potter and Deirdre Hunt/lLangton had come to this. It was sad and disrespectful to two long-term characters and all viewers who could remember the classic 70s era. But to get back to your point, I can't really see Bet being so starry-eyed by that stage of her life. After Alec left, she became harder and noticeably more cynical. I understand why you dislike that storyline, but I think it was the most plausible, really. The only problem I had with it was that she was off-screen for about a month and then came back just to film her departure storyline, which looked like it was shoehorned in. But I think it was good the way she told the likes of Rita and Vicky what she thought of them, thumbed her nose at the brewery by closing the pub and leaving them in the lurch and then left with a smile in the back of the cab. Really, though, it was the beginning of the end, definitely. It became less and less like Coronation Street in very little time.

Does anyone remember or own the Street Talk cassettes that were released to coincide with the 35th anniversary featuring Rita, Reg, Raquel and the Duckworths? They made entertaining listening, part biographical part storyline. Raquel’s was a bit heavy going though, with that gormless voice lol. Rita’s featured her holidaying in Blackpool with the Websters, they wove in a story about Rosie going missing for a short while. Don’t know if it was intended for use in the show proper, think I read a story along those lines was scrapped as a little girl had gone missing maybe abducted around that time. I think there were a couple more released too featuring Hilda and Ken but those ones were only available via mail order, not in the shops. Reg Holdsworth Love Machine and Je m’appelle Raquel t shirts were available too 😂

A sad ending for Bet really. Could have given her a good send off even with the heartbreak of losing the Rovers. Why not have her and Stella receive an offer to run a bar in the sun or something like that? Also, why did no one consult Alec when thinking about buying the Rovers? You'd think Vickie would have went to him before Steve. Running my own business I do understand and accept Alfs advice for Rita not to invest though. Bet wasn't putting £1 of her own money into it so that might show how well it was actually doing. It's a pity she went out on a bad note though and a complete disservice to the viewers that her relationship with Rita was never repaired. She will be missed.
