That was really nice of Les to wish Deirdre well for her appeal, and acknowledging his wrongdoing while she was innocent. Good when the writers show a different or unexpected side of characters.

@noeljr.7724 Actually he didn't he was on the move. The writer's needed to show one ounce of decency in him to get viewers reaction. Battersbys were great, the show was able to benefit, due to all the negativity by majority of characters towards them. Then again, Les was needing character references for court later on.😅

I must add my voice to the chorus of appreciation for your efforts in presenting these old treasured episodes. Since I found your channel, I have been reliving the glory days of the Street. If you continue the series, I will truly enjoy watching the years 2000-2010. My favourite villains were Richard Hillman and Tony Gordon.

I agree Vernice - 1976 was a very good Corrie year - I've lived in Australia for over 30 years and 1976 was when I started too. After all the COVID nonsense, catching up on my favourite UK soap on this channel this year has been a joy.

Thank you Eve for all your hard work. As an American fan this has helped me tremendously to learn more about the characters. I hope you will continue to the 2000 to wrap up all of 1999. Although I watch the current show on Britbox it pales in comparison to the past. Hopefully you will reconsider and wrap up with 2000. Thank you from a ravenous fan from America. Thank you again for all your hard word. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you CubanoX for what you said about britbox. I watch the current ones in states on Hulu and was going to get britbox so I could watch the old ones but have a lot of streaming services already, then I found these on KZbin and am ever so grateful. I would've been so disappointed if I ordered britbox and still only had access to the current year that Hulu plays. Thanks for the heads up

4:56:44 The statue seen on the promenade front, Marine Rd Central, is of (John Eric Bartholomew stage name Eric Morcambe) of Morecambe and Wise...doing his favorite stage exit dance. It was erected in 1999 and unveiled by the late Queen Elizabeth II. He took his stage name from his home town of Morecambe. He died on 28 May, 1984 at the early age of 58.

Yeh, i have to say as well, really my interest in the show.....sort of fizzels out at this point.....i love 1970s CORONATION STREET, and thought the 80s was very entertaing too, despite many old cast members departing or sadly passing away..... I HAVE TO SAY, i was surprised by the 90s...it was much better than i thought it would be.......missed out on it first time round.....Working evenings in pubs , and Nightclubs...during that time........................THANK YOU for everything...xxxxxxxxx

Yep you’re right about the 90s.. especially the early ones, I enjoyed them a lot. There did seem to be a gradual drop in quality from around the point Bet leaves (possibly before tbf). I’m up to the Brian Park era in my marathon and I can’t believe the change in so many characters.. quite a few regulars are much harsher than they were, and I’m not enjoying it at all!

Yes i agree... i am loving being able to watch these years bit by bit...but i"m finding it all a bit involved..if you look away from the screen..you loose the plot of whats going on...!!! thats happened a lot....!! the older years of the show...were more simplistic....and easy to follow.....i just love looking at 70s TV...something about it.....clothing ....cars....furniture....even the wallpaper....and everything looking a bit "shabby" even..and run down.....that just to me...had a strange warmth about it......that tiny row of houses...with the gap in the middle...where number 7 stood......That was the BEST set...The 1969 to 82 outdoor set.....lovely......and so where the cast..............ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh joy........!!!!@@EveHenleySpread
@EveHenleySpread
@EveHenleySpread 3 жыл бұрын
And you know the cast hated that set as they called it “the coldest place on Earth”.. it was in permanent shade behind the real viaduct, and only the front of the houses were actually built so you can imagine how cold it was when an actor was waiting inside a house for a scene! I read all this in Bill Podmore’s book - it’s a must read ha! 😉
@Dukes-nt1er
@Dukes-nt1er 3 жыл бұрын
yes thats right ..and they had to build the Brick version in record time...to replace the old wooden studio set they"d erected outside since 1968....because Colour tv cameras would be in use soon.....maybe thats why only fronts were built..and NO chimneys.... ..... the 1982 set had backs and back yards of course...chimneys...and the houses themselves were 6 foot wider....... that 80s set...when first used in 1982...looked too CLEAN......and it took years in the elements for it to look lived in.....i still love that Grape Street set though....... grubby looking..... @@EveHenleySpread

23:55 - Anyone can understand Deirdre's worry. She'd been convicted of numerous offences and sent to prison but was then released on bail pending her appeal. She and everyone else knew that this was either make or break; she'd either have her name cleared or she'd go straight back to prison. Even though the evidence against Jon Lindsay was strong, there is still a very slight chance of it not going her way. If anyone was in that position, they'd feel that way.

I know its a wierd comment but i think Ken Barlow has really good hair! Its as nice grey or silver as it was his origional light brown but its the thick texture & type of cut! Also Gail has nice thick hair too It suits her, the cut she has. Ive seen recent photos of her where her hair is much shorter & it really suits her much better Alot of people experience thinning of their hair as they age Mainly men, so its nice for them to keep their thick tresses Its a daft comment but since so many of the characters in Corrie wore wigs for some odd reason Except ken & Gail who have never worn them I couldnt figure out why Vera always wore those huge curly wigs when her own hair was nicer. Ivy & Ida also wore terrible wigs Ida especially! Looked like she had a mangey old cat on her head It was a dreadful fit! Cheers 🇬🇧👧🕊

Natalie was the right replacement for Bet Lynch. The Duckworths did provide many comedy moments when they took over the Rover's, especially when they teamed up with Alec, but it was never going to last as Jack and Vera hadn't a clue how to run the place. Natalie could have stayed on as landlady well into the 2000s or perhaps beyond! I wasn't a fan of the constant rotation of landlords and landlady's since. From what I see of modern Corrie, the Rovers is like a morgue.

This is around the time I began to lose interest in Corrie. Many bland characters began to be introduced during the Jane McNaught era, and the storylines were too issue led instead of character led - Sarah's teenage pregnancy, Toyahs attack, Alma's sad death, Roy & Hayley kidnapping a child, the Fresco staff being held hostage, Jed the drug dealer - no thanks not for me. I did enjoy the Richard Hillman storyline as it was fresh at the time, along with it being well written and acted out. However, I quickly began switching off again after that as Corrie was turning into a bad pantomime with too many affairs and numerous villains. With a few exceptions, 21st century Corrie has been generally dire. Thanks for the uploads and letting us relive these Coronation Street episodes again and giving us a chance to relive its golden era.

At the point 51:02 here is Izzy Redpath from Waterloo Road. When her daughter Chloe wanted Donti Charles (Adam Thomas) as her boy-friend, She was against the relationship almost as much as Gail was against the relationship between her son Nick having Leanne as her girl-friend!

Alma's lecture to Audrey about Sergei between 6:51:54 and 6:52:54 would be nothing to what Gail would say to her if Gail got to hear about the relationship. Gail can be a spoilsport.

Anyone else miss Judy Mallett? Does anyone know why she was written out of the show? Was it her choice or did she p*** someone off and get the sack? Once all that Zoe/baby-buying rubbish was over and Gary and Judy had their own babies, she was lovely. And by the time they killed her off Corrie was already running out of likeable characters with the classic Corrie sense of humour.

Maybe she wanted to move on? She did write and appear in Fat Friends in 2000.....although there really wasn't too much left in her storyline...she had the kids after all that Zoe rubbish and then that was that....

@@normasouthwood3182 Norma you do have a point. At one point she did not want her own brother at her wedding and Gail condoned her behaviour. If my brother Matthew was her father he would have said to her. "This vendetta has gone on far enough. If David does not go then me and Heather are not going. When she cheated David out of that good job in Milan with her uncle Steve, Gail and Audrey still like her as though nothing happened.
