I loved Lynne Perrie as Ivy Tilsley. Her role as a gritty northern woman in 'Kes' drew acclaim and later Coronation Steet became the perfect platform for her. We viewers were fortunate to be able to enjoy her talent for many years. Superb actress, just superb.

Yes i agree with you 100% So many seem to find fault with Ivy & way back when these episodes were 1st broadcast i also couldnt stand Ivy Yet 40 odd years on & rewatching these episodes i find i have a real soft spot for Ivy Shes a tiny little woman with steely determination & lives for her family & underneath her armour played exterior is a very tender heart filled with compassion & respect. She tries hard to be good & loyal & does her best to provide for her family & friends Her inquisitive nature has a tendancy to poke her nose in abit too far but she isn't malicious & only wants to get to the bottom of things & help I admire her gutsy attitude but i didnt like Don Brennan! He was too slippery & cunning & aggressive & dominated Ivy I really loved Bert Tilsley he was such a good kind gentle man to his family & community Sadly missed I thought Ivy previous chap, George? Mike Baldwin's driver Was much better suited to Ivy & only Ivys faith prevented her from marrying him as he was only divorced & not a widower. Don't know if you know but Ivys ( Lynne Perrie) brother in real life was a very well know comedian, often on tv & comedy shows called Dougie Brown In fact i think Lynne & Dougie were twins. Anyway nice to see a fellow Ivy fan Cheers 🇬🇧👧

Bill is a pretty good piano man & whether he has a good voice in reality & only sings abit iffy because of Jacks character i know not. I do remember actress Violet Carson ( Ena Sharples) was a well known pianist in real life & all her scenes where she sat at the organ, was her really playing. Ivy Tilsley was an understated and well defined character in Coronation Street. I don’t understand the animosity. She was a loyal wife and mother who stood up for her beliefs. It’s not like she was lining up for her Methadone every morning and stealing and whoring her way through life. She had backbone and was not afraid to stand up to anyone. Look at Tracey Barlow (Kate Ford era). She has gotten away with serious crimes. A truly vile and despicable creature with no morals. But then, that’s the world we live in now eh.

Gail is a right arse, I am sure she could have said it a nicer way to Ivy that they were not together anymore. What a horrible way to say her and St Brian were no longer an item.

Ivy is an awful person but Gail was wrong to not have a Catholic funeral for Brian.
@professionalgun66743 жыл бұрын
I agree Gail was wrong and she no endearing qualities anymore. Ivy looks as though she's on the road to vengeance and quite right. Looking forward to the battles ahead.

Gail was way worse than Ivy. Ivy doted on Brian. Gail is one selfish b*tch.

The way the writers handled Brian & Gail's deteriorating marriage felt so forced in creating the climax for Brian's exit - very strange watching it back

Great month for Corrie, unfortunately dominated by the death of awful Brian Tilsley, and the start of the battle royal between Gail and Ivy. Alan Bradley's not-so-subtle seduction of Dawn Prescott is fascinating to watch, as she's already on to him and getting suspicious, but he can't see it, and is unaware that she's going to be the architect of his downfall. Go Dawn!

I think the battle between Gail and Ivy started way before Brian Tilsley was killed off sure remember when Ivy tried to stop Audrey from going round to Gail and Brian’s house for dinner I’m not saying that’s how it started I don’t know how it started but I think it started way before that as well but I do know it definitely started way before Brian Tilsley was even killed off

I’m sure Bernie played the father of del and Rodney trotter in only fools and horses (I recognise the voice) or am I wrong?
@notonyournelly54753 жыл бұрын
Well spotted. I think you are correct. Both are played by Peter Woodthorpe. A distinctive voice indeed.

Yeah that's him. 1983 Christmas Special called Happy Returns. Reg made Del think he was someone else's kid by adding a letter on the blood test letter. The last episode Lennard Pearce appeared in before his untimely death the following December. They had filmed some of Series 4 but had to redo Grandad's scenes with Uncle Albert instead. Strained Relations was quickly done to accommodate Lennard Pearce and Grandad's death and Uncle Albert's debut

@@dominewimbury2039 Good knowledge. Thanks. But I think the Christmas episode may have been called ' Thicker them Water'. The episode where their dad comes into it. I think ' Happy returns' episode may have been the episode where Delboy thinks he has a daughter with Juney.

I only just discovered this show a few months ago and between allen bradley and gail I'm that disgusted that can't watch no more 😩 I just loved this show too...no more Hilda and Eddie and Stan..the list goes on...without Bet, Alec, Jack, even Vera & her mouth this show wouldn't have a chance in hell and where the hell Gloria! R.i.P. Bryan ☹

Brian's stabbing even viewing now really hits the emotions the same as 1989. Horrible to say the least. I don't know if they ever caught the person that did this and presented this on any of the episodes after.
@zanducktv23982 жыл бұрын
His killer gave a talk at Nick’s college in 1998, then he got Leanne to write to him in prison and things got a bit dangerous 😬 The episodes were screened around June I think so you’ll find them on this channel but excerpts telling the story have been uploaded separately on another channel too. Good storyline.

Sounds like the story where Ernie's murderer was back in touch with Emily. Ideas must have been short on the ground around that time.

How wooden is Gail’s mate Pauline! 🤦♂️ I hope little Warren Jackson knew it was only pretend, must have been quite traumatic for him. Older Warren said about Brian’s death on the kids from Corrie special.

I can't stand Sandra Stubbs..I thought her verbal attack on Ken was really pathetic, and gave a glimpse of her temper and true feelings about people. I'm surprised he gave her the time of day after that
@martinsteve2 жыл бұрын
I agree. She was a miserable character who was quick to apportion blame rather than accept her own failings. She also had a go at Alf in the Rovers for selling alcohol to her son and his friends based in pretty flimsy evidence.

I'm getting to where I started watching in 92 or 93 & I've gone back to 1982 to meet the characters I have always heard about like Brian & his death. Not much storyline in the past couple years & a character i never cared for, However he was good in the scenes when he took Nicky. Rita storyline is compelling TV that I can't stop watching. For a dull character this has changed my opinion of him. What a slimeball & the acting between him & Rita is great.
