I just cannot work out what Rita sees in old Ted. He comes across as about a decade older than her, regardless of their actual age difference. His weak voice drives me up the wall. And the main problem I have with him, is the secret he is keeping from Rita. He doesn't level with her before she 'falls for him', so by the time she finds out, it is too late for her to back out. Where has Bet gone? I mean I can see her, but after Alec didn't give Liz her job back and later he gives Betty the push she seems to have turned into someone else. Where's the fire, the thunder, the towering over the little twerp to deliver her thoughts with a vengeance, or else!? I like Alec but this change in both characters makes them look stupid and despicable especially under the circumstances...this is ridiculous... Or am I the only one to notice this...? The only thing I can figure is the writers had more time to fill in so they explored every avenue no matter how off kilter.
@EveHenleySpread3 жыл бұрын
I thought you might have given up by now PG! I know it's tempting during the lulls! Yes you have a point about Bet there.. although she did bite back a bit making him go and offer Betty her job back (how many times has Betty left/retired from the Rovers over the years?.. Gotta be double figures!).

It's annoying when the characters are suddenly acting very differently to the way we've always known them. It always makes me wonder if the actors ever point it out to the writers when they receive the scripts? Betty is kind of a terrible “friend” to Bet. Bet was always loyal to Betty in the past but Betty always jumped to the worst conclusions about Bet, always thought the worst of her, treated her like a dog compared to the way she kicked Annie Walkers boots. She has zero respect for Bet and you can tell she thinks Bet is beneath her and trashy. I don’t know how it why Bet always had her back, Betty never returned it. It’s always been a very one sided “friendship”. I find it sad. Betty is the dumbest woman ever anyway. She is naive, gullible and always wrong about everything. If Betty thinks something can’t happen it WILL. If she says someone seems great, they are going to be a monster. It never fails.

4:51:13 am I missing something here? If the kitchen needs refitting isn’t it the brewery’s concern if you’re a tenant?
@KuchiKopi1792 жыл бұрын
Yea, I never understood how it worked, was the pub rented out to them, like retail space? Was it like a franchise where the owner (Alec and Bet) bought the building and just had to buy brewery alcohol? Were they just managers and the brewery still owned the pub. I never got it tbh, especially when Bet was worrying about money when she became manageress in the 80's, what was she paying for? The lease to the pub? Because I think for the little backstreet pub in the 80's she overpaid. Just baffling, maybe because I have never owned a business that required retail space.
@londonlady227 Жыл бұрын
It should be yes. The brewery holds the lease, Alec is the landlord. Any necessary refitting to do it the business should done by the brewery but it has to necessary for the profits.

Ummm parents not letting teens of the opposite sex spend time unsupervised is perfectly normal. It doesn’t mean you think “little” of your children. It means you know what it’s like to be that age, it means you know what they get up to. The OLDEST con in the book is saying “we are just friends, why don’t you trust me?” It’s normal that Tracy would get mad about it but Derdrie pretending it’s an insult to try to not make it easy for the teens to have sex is super strange and stupid.

Nothing was ever said about it Once Mr Jones the builder had completed the houses & commercial outlets, Rita announces to Mave that shes bought the new premises with flat above. She never said what she was doing about the old place Plus she didnt sell her old house Curley & Angie still rent it from her How did she afford her new place & flat? Did she get a mortgage? Why didnt a new person move into the Kabin & flat? Or did they & i missed that episode? The Corrie writers could have had a field day with new people with a new business in the old Kabin & someone else renting the flat above. Also what happened with Len Faircloughs old building yard? Was it sold off to Jones the builder? No ones mentioned it since Curley & Terry Duckworth dissolved their partnership. Id be happy to know, if anyone has any answers Cheers 🇬🇧👧

Thought she sold her old shop/ flat, also, she was left with quite a bit of money after Len's death. No doubt he had life insurance etc, also, her house was owner occupied (she rented it out) she still had the yard and she must have bought the new shop/ flat after the sale of her old one. Suffice to say, Len left her financially sufficient, with a lot of ways for money to flow in.

Yes, I know what you mean. I found it hard to believe someone as sparky as Rita would fall for a man as devoid of life (no pun intended) as Ted. And to think he used to be heroic Sir Lancelot back in the '50s.

In todays money dereks salary would be £40,000 while the plats house should only be £85,000. At a guess it would be valued at over £200,000.

Why does Gail think it’s “tough” to pull the hair of a man. 99.99%of men would throw themselves in front of a train to save a woman or to avoid even defending themselves when being hit by women. So it’s not “tough” because it’s not fair. Hitting someone who has ZERO intention of even defending himself let alone fighting back seems to be the opposite of tough. Gail disgusts me more and more every year and I didn’t like her and Suzie when they first came around.

Why in the world do I watch ANY soap operas?? American or British? I should just stick to the History Channel. All the soap stars should have tape across their mouths most of the time. Gossip central! My dog has more sense than most of the people.
