If this was Coronation Street from 2022, Bet’s neighbour would have turned out to be a crazy psychopath with pictures of her plastered all over his walls and a few of her personal possessions he managed to swipe. The story line would end with Bet being kidnapped for days before Eddie Yates rescues her by kicking the door down. I am loving 80’s Coronation Street with its simple storylines and northern humour. I haven’t watched it for years but I am absolutely hooked on these classic episodes. Thanks so much for uploading them.

I think the whole premise that coronation Street was originally based on doesn't really work anymore. Society has completely changed. It was based on the old industrial working class who were poor, deeply socially conservative, never went anywhere and had little to do other than gossip about neighbours. That society doesn't really exist anymore.

Rita is appallingly cruel behind her friends backs AND to their faces She loves & relishes others discomfort & humiliation Renee & Bett were the greatest of Pals until Renee nabbed Alf then set about getting rid of Bett then recruited Alf to vilify Bett Renee was so nice till she married Alf but has now turned into a vicious toad! Elsie is Elsie! Shes got a tongue like a laser & isnt afraid to pull someone, cat fight & scream & Bawl BUT ive never seen her be hypocritical! She always has a valid reason & is fair, shes quick to react but once shes said her piece she makes peace, forgives & forgets Rarely harbours bad feeling long The rest are Harpies, vindictive Vixens & poisoned toads But its great viewing Betts comebacks & one liners are magnificent! This is why coronation Street is such good social history. It's very much how society was back then. The working class in particular were often very deeply socially conservative (even though most voted labour). People had absolutely no money and never went anywhere, so their "reputation" with neighbours was all they had. When older People talk about this era as "the good old days", it really wasn't. Very depressing, repressive era in many ways.
