It's dreadful, and I don't understand why the writers pursued it for so long, allowing it to take up numerous scenes. Bad enough with Fred and Norris, but Jack's interest and Curly's involvement is unseemly and an insult too far. I hope it's soon sidelined.

The sad truth about the Alf storyline is that if he had listened to Audrey, he might have celebrated his 70th birthday in real life - and his 69th, and 68th! Compare that to Mavis who is still alive at 92, and Ken and Emily who are still alive at 89, and Rita who is 88 now.

41:51 - It does seem obvious than Raquel's lacklustre appearances this month (after a couple of months absence) show that she was on her way out of the story. There's just no interest in her character anymore, particularly once drama queen Samantha the Panther had replaced her at the Rovers. At this point I think she only had a few weeks left, so ditching Curly after he'd got involved with the moronic (Masonic) Square Dealers was inevitable, though a little clumsily done.

1996 feels like the last year when the show was ''classic'' Corrie. From 1997 onwards it changes too much to be the same as the classic era. The ''classic'' episodes currently airing on itv3 are from 2003 with the awful Harris family. Even though those are 20 years old they don't feel like they should be regarded as ''classic Coronation Street'' The show was just different from 1997 onwards. So i say 1960-1996 classic era 1997 to present modern era

I think I'd agree with you there, the ushering in of the hideous Battersby family in 1997 by Brian Park was truly the end of the good old days - it's never recovered since, I can't watch 5 minutes of it now without wanting to throw something through my television set! ;-)

@@EveHenleySpread There were some storylines i quite liked during the Park era like Deirdre being conned and then set up by the fake airline pilot and then being sent down. But i hated the Nick Tilsley recast (Adam Rickitt was a terrible actor) and Kevin's affair with Natalie and the turgid live triangle stuff between Steve Jim and Fiona was dreadful. Janice and Leanne Battersby did eventually grow on me but i always found Les and Toyah a pain in the butt. I don't mind the 2003 episodes on at the moment too much but Tommy Harris is a dreadful character and the story with Tracy trying to sell her baby to the Croppers is garbage. I did enjoy the Richard Hillman story but i think it stupid how they keep trying to do it again with other characters.

Big continuity error in this. At 57 minutes we can see Raquel with a head full of curlers in the hairdressers salon. Six minutes later in her next scene there she is in The Rovers with not a curl on her head with totally straight hair.

Large rollers give the hair body rather than curl, I think she had what used to be called “flick-ups”. But yes, the continuity is laughable sometimes. Especially concerning the hair salon!

Yes, its so odd watching now seeing people do things regarded as normal but seeing them now startles us! It was the smoking that alarmed me, esp 10yrs prior to 1996 They smoked in other peoples houses, never asking permission, In hospitals, shops, cafes, even in interviews for a job! I nearly fell off my chair when some cast member was the interviewee & the interviewer took out a cigarette packet, offered the Person a cig then took out his lighter & they both lit up & an ashtray was produced!!!! Way back in the 1970s i was told NEVER take a cigarette or offer a cig during an interview! Even though i did occasionally have a smoke, id never have done this during an interview! My father gave me good advice, Protocol & work etiquette about interviews, and although its sexist to say now, but i was told to wear a smart tailored suit with skirt length just below the knee,( never trousers) plain jewellery like a slim gold chain, stud earrings, single string pearl necklace, natural Cosmetics, clean nails, very light perfume, sparingly. I always got any job i went for Looking smart & elegant & did my homework on each company i went for interview, showing my interest & asking relevant questions! I still adhere to the above rules & even nowadays when jobs are hard to find, im successful. Anyway... It was the free range smoking that had me speechless! It'd never never ever happen today! Jamie miserable because he cannot have a relationship with his Dad. Kelly and Fiona both seem to be in a constant state of complaining about something. Curly miserable because he doesn’t like Raquel’s new attitude. Maureen still moaning despite starting a new relationship with Bill. Des miserable because Claire decides she wants to be with him rather than forsake her widow’s pension. By comparison, Deirdre was quite chirpy this month! Cheer up, everyone!
