Did they give shared custody a lot there in the 80’s? Because shared custody is popular now but wasn’t so much then. The dad would get every other weekend (which is 4 days each month) then 2weeks in the summer. It was a standard arrangement , at least where I live, in that time. They thought a father was unnecessary

Vera is just pure class to watch if only of todays coronation street stars could act like Vera. then if would might just become a good soap again like it was in the old days with great actors and actress they had like Elsie. Vera, ivy mike Hilda betty and jack and Phyllis to name but a few. its the first time that mike yelled at Emily bishop and told her get out it its just fantastic to watch.

Actually ivy a little boy suffers far worse consequences without a father than without a mother. (Obviously neither option is good. I’ll say it here so I don’t get the “A mother would be a big loss too” response, that’s obvious but must be said I guess) It’s been long enough and we have made divorce so easy (almost more favored than marriage) that we have seen the consequences on mass. Another thing we trashed with “progress”, the family. And we see how well we are doing now🙄

So many poor actors with just a few exceptions. So many dislikeable characters for a small street and a backstreet pub. I missed the original showing from the mid 80s onwards and have read that Corrie deteriorates, just didn't realise it started so soon. Knowing that certain characters are around for years to come like Gail, Audrey, Barlow etc etc is an encouragement to give up. Wilton reappearing is almost unbearable. Hilda keeps me interested. I might stay to see the 80s out and then reconsider.
