When Jack goes with Don to look for cars, the car salesman does the unforgivable & assumes the buyer cant afford the most expensive cars because of how they are dressed or how they speak My boss at the Electricity Board Showroom where i worked while i was a student many decades ago told me to NEVER ASSUME ! Years earlier he tried to ignore a strangely dressed oldish woman in the appliances showroom he worked in. She pestered him re; fridge/freezers, large " Rayburn" type ovens etc. She was dressed in a rough tweed coat, tied with a piece of rope, a terribly battered old hat with her wild hair sticking out from her hat, wearing ankle length Wellington type boots Obviously he assumed she was an old tramp & almost turfed her out onto the street, she was very eccentric so he tolerated her telling him she wanted the most expensive fridge/freezer, Same with the outrageously expensive oven & other such products! As she dragged him to his showroom desk, sat down, whipped out her cheque book, ready to write out the very large final total of her purchases, He was flabbergasted to see her name! She was the matriarch of the Guinness family, millionaires!! She was totally legit! This regal like old lady then admonished him, with a smile telling him... Never Assume! My boss said it was a valuable lesson he learned that day! He treat every customer as if they were as royal as the Queen Many times he said, he gained respect & praise & thus success by customers who dressed & seemed like tramps only to find they were famous pop stars or film stars incognito & because he treat them so well, they chose to buy from him because he didnt assume they couldn't afford! I never forgot his story & im in full agreement Never Assume! .. its been fortunate for me to observe this Advice! Cheers 🇬🇧👧

The Wilting Wiltons' "Saga of the Runaway Gnome" is just about the most tedious story of the whole decade of the 1990s, with the possible exception of the grating turn-off inducing Curly-Kimberley romance. First, the Wiltons suffer the Boat Debacle, then the Dormobile Drama, and now the Gnome Nightmare: it's as if they cannot exist without something silly and rather pointless to panic over.

@eatmywords2 жыл бұрын
@@zanducktv2398 yes, she was right in a way. the show did bring in a large element of farce, and using the same characters, like the wiltons or the duckworths. this was supposed to balance out the relentless tragedy that could become extremely tiresome and depressing. i found gail's occasional breakdowns awfully tiresome. if, however, we contrast the show from the 70s and early 80s, the characters were much more developed and well rounded. consider the ogdens. yes, they often found themselves in farcical situations, like the donkey, and the colour television. but these farcical situations were much more balanced against the character and the position in society. jean alexander played the role brilliantly. she couldn't help herself from earwigging in other people's conversations, and the way she would worm herself closer to that conversation could be very humorous, and fairly believable. and then contrast the tragedy in their lives. these were very endearing and poignant. who can forget stan's death. after this though hilda's character become very narrow, and the only way the writers could generate sympathy for the woman who often caused a lot problems with her gossip, was through ameliorative sympathy.

Poor Ivy, sad how she left with her funeral off screen. I don't care what anyone says about her, she had a hard life and only ever wanted to keep her son's and husband's memories alive through her grandchildren, which is perfectly understandable to me. Getting them to change their names when Gail married Martin was insensitive to say the least. But then Gail was only ever really about what she wanted, chip off her mother's block! And when poor Stan Ogden died, who was the main one who bothered to see if Hilda was coping and making tea and meals for her? Ivy Tilsley! I watched a fair bit of 1995 stuff during lockdown when it was on uk gold/drama or whatever and it was largely boring and bad too. It was just that in 1995 there was no internet, mobile phones and very few people had sky so soaps could get away with churning out crap. Corrie was known to be particularly bad around this era and in 1996 and that's why Brian Parker came in and changed it alot in 1997 and modernised it. If you look at stee mc Fadden in this era who plays Phil in EastEnders he was only 35 too but looked much older. The same goes for Ross Kemp who joined Eastenders at age 25 but looked early 30s at the least. Even the actresses who played Sharon and Michelle in Eastenders looked much older in the 90s when they were only in their mid-later 20s but it was the early 90s hair and fashion that aged them a lot. "Catch yourself on" is one of her favourite "omg - wtf is he saying?" I guess the Corrie scriptwriters didn't bother to talk to a real Northern Irish person before they wrote the script for "Jim". Ok, Kevin and Sally must have insurance, right??? Why are they acting like Bill has to DIY it? Insurance would cover EVERYTHING. She would get a whole new kitchen. If the carpets are wet from fire trucks, those would get replaced too. I mean, an update, professionally done when you live on their budget would not be terrible. They lost nothing precious, kids were never in danger…..only a new kitchen and whatever that room they eat in is(dining room/living room. I’m not sure)

Ivy passed away in the night. Her death would have been off screen. What or how would Don tell Gail and the his grandchildren Nick,Sarah and David their Grandma Ivy has died. First was the Tilsley brothers Ivy was married to then her Brian was stabbed to death and now Ivy has died Nick and Sarah are the only remaining Tilsleys living on the Street nowadays.

I hate watching somebody like Kevin eat by holding his fork with his fist and pushing food onto the fork with his knife. 😖
