She could have moved away to live with a relative, or died and characters could have referred to her funeral, etc. It's very poor to simply have a popular character just disappear.

I wish they would have had her find happiness at some point. Percy was willing to potentially get married to Maude and he was actually pleasant when he was with her. They could have done that with him and Phyllis instead. She was such a fun, sweet, funny lady. I wish I could have watched her find a little happiness with the man she fancied:)

Its a case of our odd British humour! We often sound sarcastic or a tad cruel to people but its usually to people close to us & we care deeply for! Non Brits find this rather confusing & not understood but ive found our " pet" or affectionate names we have for our most loved people sound dreadful to others Making fun with a loved one with an affliction or impediment shows them we say what we say, to show how open & at ease with them & allow them to face others in complete acceptance of whatever some cultures would hide away or never speak of. Im from Newcastle in the far north of Britain & our humour is very dry, ascerbic & sarcastic but we reserve the best of that humour for our most favourite most beloved people! Ive heard very good friends call a friend with one leg, Hoppity or Kanga ( from Kangaroo & both legs together jumps) but its said in deep affection! And poor Emily, she was going to sell her house and move away from her home,friends, family and memories just to get away from Percy, and she changed her mind last min and stayed. Then gets guilted into taking him back in, and now he allows all that water damage to build up without notifying her, and still wants to give her static Abt having to stop out for a bit while it gets sorted. I hope she puts her foot down this time and makes his room an art or sewing room for herself and doesn't allow him back. She deserves a peaceful home life.

Here, at 1:06:18, the front door of No. 5 has a good foot (if not more) of wall space, including a coat rack, between the door opening edge and the middle wall. By the time the Battersby's move in, in 1997, the front door has moved across to a corner opening, with no wall space at all, and the coat rack moves to the middle wall (the wall adjoining No. 7). I think the arched transom window remains above the door, but the whole doorway moves!

I've always felt bad for Warren Jackson. Poor kid was born into the show, it's what he had been doing all his life to this point. Then he is sacked because well, he can't act. His life must have been so strange afterwards, without Helen Worth, Lynne Perrie, Sue Nichols etc, I've always wondered how he, and other child actors cope. Helen Worth spent so many years as his 'mum', surely they had an attachment.

The staircase was open to the main room too. As others have said, camera angles have changed over the years, becoming more advanced & opening up the space where the actors stand So it could be this is why Bettys old place looked different! So many people say Warren Jackson who plays Nick, isnt a good actor? Well as ive experienced with my friends pre teen & teen sons then my own 2 grandsons I say Warren is, spot on, in character of this age group They scowl & clunk along, permanent rictus twisty face The rapid head movement as they flick aside their lanky hair They dont talk but grunt, Or mumble, pout, avoid eye contact, snigger, swagger, fling clothing off every piece of furniture.... grimace constantly Glare at any parent/grandparent Trying to keep up the stand off. Scowl, snitter, snarl & the only audible understandable words they utter is.. Its Not Fair! Id say Warren Jackson is VERY good as a young teen & sums up the stereotypical teen from the 1990s to present day They rarely speak words & whatever words they do utter sound like spoken shorthand or code My forever picture of my grandson at 14yrs & standing at 6ft tall, head bowed down, hair hanging across his face, two eyes " just" visible under his heavy fringe, twisted sneer & a Urghh Uggg Blaaa, issuing from him in a broken voice at once childlike then deep bass..... Definately creatures not from planet Earth! 😆 Cheers 🇬🇧👧

I never thought Gail should have insisted that Nicky changed his name to Platt! Poor Ivy had lost her husband her son & she lived for grandson Nick Gail should have understood this Shes a mother herself, how would she feel if any of her kids changed their kids names via adoption especially if one Gails sons died suddenly, leaving his own children & his widow remarrying & changing Gails grandkids surnames!!! Imagine her rampage at this! She could have let Nicky keep his Tilsley name for his own identity & the comfort of his Grans name Honouring his real dad. At a later date when Nick was older it should have been left for him to decide! Many families have kids with different surnames due to remarriages, they have the right to keep their fathers surname if they choose. Its nothing unusual or seen as nice & neat, all names matching just for the names sake! Gail marrying Martin & her new name matching Martins is fine but changing the kids should have been a family discussion with Ivy having input! Sarah Louise was fine with being a Platt, she didnt really know Brian, she only knows Martin as Dad! David is already a Platt So having 2 of your 3 kids names matching a new husbands name should have been enough for bossy Gail! Nicky knew & remembered his dad Ivy doted on Nicky, after losing Brian it would have been so kind of Gail to let Nicky carry on his true fathers name! Gail HAS to have everything her way or NO way! Id do what Ivy did, to be honest Nicky would have the right to keep his birth name & to deprive him, Gail should expect Nickys Hostility! Stupid woman! Good for Ivy 🇬🇧👧

Billy Williams is a good enough perfect love match for Betty Turpin ending up marrying him of course.
