Jan, you make a great point to look at "natures fertilizer" in a positive light! Does your being a disabled Army veteran have anything to do with watching this video? It’s dudes like you who actually take the time to make sure everyone knows you a disabled veteran, and thrives on the attention that take the attention away from the soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen who need a little something to get them buy! Some vets are barely able to make it through the day without struggle, and not saying a word! Then we have you and people like you who must make sure and let everybody know, every chance you get. Pathetic!

Most people build sand castles, you build dung piles! I bet those calves appreciated fresh bedding and a roof over their heads, I show 19 mm or 3/4 of an inch. Good thing I got my lawns fertilized yesterday. I think the switch has been flipped, our nice days are numbered.

What’s even better is an excavator for loading solid manure. Takes some time to be able to finesse the controls, but definitely more efficient then a loader once you get the hang of it.

When we have to haul equipment more than 30 miles from our main location, we load everything on a semi trailer and haul it where it needs to go. Obviously, the drawback is that you’d have to own a semi and flatbed trailer. As this is a one-time party for you, owning all the equipment isn’t worth it if your only going to do this once or twice. If it were to become an every year deal, that would the time to start pulling numbers together to see how much time you’d save by hauling equipment to know if it’s feasible for you. Love the drone shots, Jan!!

we run a couple mx series tractors. all of them have a 'jolt' between 6 and 7. the transmission is shifting between two sets of gears right then. tractor reads engine speed from the alternator, check if the green wire is corroded or burnt inside. that can make the problem significantly worse. good luck.

Always interesting watching another farmer in a different type of farming. We grow Xmas trees and pumpkins. I still wonder if it wouldn't be more cost efficient if you put the manure, bedding, everything else in windrows and composted it and then spread it. Less trips in the field and the material is more broke down.
@kevenhiemie
@kevenhiemie Жыл бұрын
@@jellybeandakota6140 It's not a cakewalk but you make it sound much more difficult than it is. You can just put organic material in a pile and let compost for a long time. It's called Vermicomposting. It's what mother nature has been doing for thousands of years. Then there's Aerated (Turned) Windrow Composting. What you're thinking of. Composting a few windrows of a farms waste is much different than composting in a large facility for a whole municipality. Municipalities have a lot more materials and quicker turn around than a single farm. I'm sure your municipality was limited on space and their compost was in high demand. They had to make sure the compost broke down as fast as possible. The biggest equipment is not needed to compost farm waste. A simple 3-point compost turner, that best fits the budget, is all that's needed. Plus composting is a good way to use liquid manure and not having to haul a few less load to the field.
@kevenhiemie
@kevenhiemie Жыл бұрын
@@jellybeandakota6140 It's actually quite a bit chemistry but very basic simple chemistry. They probably would actually have more time after starting to compost and more content for more videos. As organic materials decompose, their volume will decrease 20% to 60% depending on the character of the materials and the amount of compaction. The weight of finished compost is usually 50% to 80% of the original weight of the refuse. That's literally 50% + less troops in the field to haul manure and bedding. Then when you do Haul the compost to the fields it is a much better product than just manure. Subtract the additional time that can be saved by hauling less liquid manure. If said liquid manure was used to moisten the compost, when it was turned or just pumped on the windrows. Minus the initial equipment cost and learning curve, it's money and timed saved. Less diesel fuel, last wear-and-tear on equipment. Heck, just the savings on tires alone, not having to road the equipment so much. The benefits and profit are almost immediate and immense in the long run.

I would not worry about that quick shift. I have the operating pressure turned up in the 47re automatic in my Diesel Ram The quick shift is better for the clutches in the transmission. A smooth shift often relies on two clutches overlapping engagement. This can cause extra wear. Do you have a preference for the Case or the Deere?

Would a compost finishing/bagging operation pay in your area? I appreciate the wisdom (and real need) for each farm to keep its fertility on the farm, but suburban America (ALL "Americas" North/Middle/South) are requiring sources of fertility, and the "natural" way of "fertilizing" is enjoying widespread popularity. Local lore: Here, when an old-timer spoke of "fertilizer" that's EXACTLY what he's talkin' about. And when speaking of the "modern" bagged-salts "fertilizers" he's likely to say "Yup. THAT kinda fertilizer makes happy fathers and sad sons." I myself don't understand how a farm could become "farmed out." Something must be terribly wrong goin' on there.....but it IS possible (even doable) to dump so much poison on your land that you CAN "kill" it. Costs money, sure, but it CAN be done.......
