There's been a push for Oscars to include Stunt Crew for years, still hasn't happened. Shame, they're the ones that really make movies and shows awesome. None of the physical stuff that gives moments the impact they need would be possible without them.
@Errol_cz2 жыл бұрын
They say (not really sure, who "they" are) it's because of the dangerous nature of stunt work. In other words that it would promote increasingly more dangerous stunts, just to one up the other guy, while gambling with stunt persons' healths and lifes. Basically making stunt Oscars the "who can get closer to the death without crossing the line" competition.
@Hydraclone2 жыл бұрын
@@Errol_cz I can easily see this point of view. You would need to approach it from a technicality point of view instead of a spectacle then. Kinda hard to judge though, I guess.
@torstikinnunen38012 жыл бұрын
@@Errol_cz It is likely a valid concern. I remember seeing in early 2000's a sort of stunt awards gala show on TV. I think it was organized by WWE. The award for the best stunt went posthumously to a stunt performer who had died in a stunt. The film was xXx. Even for a viewer that left a bitter taste on the award. First, I think it would be reasonable to call it a failed stunt. And more importantly, it would be a terrible message to the industry professionals, that they have to lose their life to get the biggest recognition for their work. I don't know if they ever had another show.

There's this one thing I wanted to see on VFX React for a while, and the bit from Æon Flux made me take the courage to comments asking for it. The thing I wanted to see is the pov of people behind bad shots. I always thought it was silly to ask for this because you get all these great professionals to go in the show, and when you have them there you obviously want to talk about all the great work they done throughout the years, but I also always craved to have at least a little bit with them talking about shots they weren't as satisfied with the results, and what was the reason for it. That would be great to show to people that the bad CG they complain still can come from great artists, and so we can see all the choices made and all the reasons (budget, time, etc) that resulted in a shot not as good as expected. For example, Justice League had many of the same VFX leads from Avatar, I would love to see an Oscar winner for Avatar also give his story on what happened with the uncanny valley Superman lips.

I'd love to see another full on old school hong kong action movie stunt men/women react. Those old movies were cartoony and hilarious at times, while the poor actors often took some serious hits in the amazing over the top action.

I was astounded at how little you knew about that original Tomb Raider sequence by Angelina Jolie. The main selling point of (both) the movie(s) was how much of the work Angelina did herself, and how, and how it was practical.

This episode answered a question I have been wondering for a long time: why are they called stunt women/men and not just stunt actors? Selling a fall, a punch, or a burn is definitely acting in my mind. But it seems like in Hollywood legalities, to be a stunt "actor" you have to have dialogue. Whatever, in my opinion every stunt person is also an actor and should be rewarded for the work they do!

Kinda similar in the UK you have to be part of the actors union or guild to have lines. I did some small work as an extra when I was skint as a teenager and the rule is no lines unless part of those groups. I dunno if its a total requirement but yeah something like that.

I would assume it also depends on if they're a stunt double or not.

Couldn't agree more! I've heard Zoe Bell talk about how Tarantino would tell her what her motivation is when running along a staircase railing and Chad Stahelski talk about how the story telling doesn't stop when someone throws a punch or fires a gun, so at least good directors seem to get it.
