If you're only dropping someone off or picking someone up, then it's fine to stop in the bus/ fire lane for a couple minutes (that's 2 minutes or less). @@onion... - the point I am making, or trying to make, is that there is an actual difference between stopping (and staying with your vehicle) for a short period and parking for a longer period (and leaving your vehicle unattended). And that difference is important if the whole reason for restricting parking/stopping in the marked of area is to ensure that fire fighters can get unhindred access to a building. Remember, the law only defines what is legal and what is illegal. It does not define what is right or wrong. In this case I find nothing wrong with the police parking there car there or directing the woman to pull over into the restricted area. They are all able to quickly vacate the area if needed.
