Thanks for this reportage. Understatement to say France has a “tricky “ relationship with Corsica or any other “autre mers” départements. France would not have to pay “subsidies” to these islands if they had their “independence “, not “ autonomy “ to self governing without hands tied by the French pouvoir. Those subsidies are like rents France pays for geopolitical interests and control. France has ALWAYS made it murky for locals to be divided about independence when faced with the alternatives. Haiti and Madagascar were the last islands to gain independence and France has worked to assure their failure! The rest under France remain impoverished!

Independence or autonomy. It was never Italian. (Autonomy is preferable)

@@professorminstrels6460True, it was never Italian but was part of Genoa. I believe if not for France it would have joined Italy in the unification just like Sardinia
