One of a thousand things I've learned from Phil's channel over the years, don't be afraid of a Cort product! I'd never heard of them before, now I know how much stuff they make and how well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy something from them.

Back in the 80's, Cort was a cheap import brand you bought for your first guitar or bass when you couldn't afford a Fender or a Gibson. Not any more. I own a Cort Rithimic bass and it's the best bass I've ever owned. Top quality components and construction.

I bought a Cort G250 FR white recently and it's a killer Guitar! Cost me only 200 Euros (had minor optical flaws, normally goes for around 300 Euros). It has a bridge humbucker, middle and neck hot rails and a VH like flush to the body mounted Floyd Rose. I play so many styles on it and I absolutely fell in love with this guitar. Cort were already great 15 years ago but nowadays they're really going the extra mile. No wonder PRS has their SE's manufactured by Cort.

Cort has always made good guitars. I had a Samic SG back in the day that was a great guitar. The problem with Cort is they don’t have any big box and very few independent store distribution. Other issue is for $750 you can get a Charvel, Fender, Jackson, PRS or other “name brand” guitars. Cort needs to partner with Zzounds or American Music for distribution or even becoming the house brand like Michael Kelley or Harley Benton. Harley Benton has circumvented distribution issues by being incredibly priced, which in the buy to play retail environment we’re in now has helped their branch become a household name for guitar players.

I have the g290 fat and I certainly prefer the woods and look to it over the g300 but I would love to see some of the specs such as 24 frets, stainless steel frets and SD pick-ups added to my g290. And the g290 LE had this extra Suhr like lower horn cut away that I'd be keen to have also. Its like they took all of my preferred specs and spread them out across 3 guitars

The Charvel DK24 will have more options for strat and tele-like tones since it has the additional switch to go between series and parallel for the pickups. From reviews of other guitars (check Daryl Braun's review of the Charvel So Cal Tele) and other info I'd expect the Charvel to have neck/fret treatment that is exceptional (as opposed to just very good on the Cort) and the Charvel's tremolo would also be very highly rated. If you mainly use humbucker sounds and aren't good enough / fussy enough to appreciate an exceptional neck then save some money and buy the Cort. If like plenty of single coil-type sound options and/or would appreciate outstanding neck and fretwork, save for the Charvel and you'll probably never want to upgrade. I don't think either would be a "wrong" choice for most people. But watch some more reviews to help you decide.

@@Baggmanau bought a brand new charvel dk24, the neck was phenomenal, the gotoh 510 was one of the most solid bridges ive ever played on. Had to return that guitar due to defect electronics, bought a second one that was also brand new and the guitar seems to have been misrouted as the bridge pickup was so high it pushed on the strings, tried to lower the pickup and it would not budge. I’ve previously played the DK and loved it, I’ve been sold on Charvel for so long but as of recent with the QC issues I’ve personally experienced I would pass. As far as frets go, I’ve played guitars that retail for 500$-600$ that have had considerably better fret jobs than the Charvel I received

@Baggmanau 3 жыл бұрын
@@iangray9791 Good info Ian - thanks for sharing. Many reviewers have said very good things - maybe they get guitars that have been thoroughly checked or maybe you were unlucky. But either way it sounds as though Charvels (like many brands) are best bought through a local retailer rather than from some distant online store.

Got 3 Cort guitars. My g290 fat model is my go to. I also have a cr100 that I got back circa 1999 as a kid. The cr100 is not playable at all. The humbuckers are bad, the switch is playing up, the buzzing is hard to control and needs a proper set up (if I ever get to changing the humbuckers and have a look at the wiring). My 290 fat model plays so well though and my sfx acoustic is also nice to play and beatiful to look at. So to summarize. I got a shit cort guitar as a kid, but maybe it was a one off bad product or they were not as good guitar manufacturers back then. I kept it only for its sentimental value. Now I am eyeing x700 to get :)

The pots that came in my Gibson guitars don’t need to be sprayed out because they never get static. All the other guitars, some of which are quite expensive, need to be sprayed. I wish I knew more about this Phil, I would upgrade all the electronics as needed. I don’t like to spray out pots, it can get everywhere. The Rickenbacker pots never need to be sprayed, and so far the MIM Fender is A-ok. The 3 way switches are a different story, the only one that held up is the Les Paul. 335 and Explorer need help. I don’t want to work on the Ibanez UV77, collectors item etc. But the pot is staticky. Suhr, static. ESP, static. I would like to know how to tighten the 1/4 male jacks. All my plugs get loose, and I’m tightening them all the time. I just don’t want to put pliers on the metal and scuff it, cause issues with contact. There are some old pots on my preamps too, they’re basically shot. I would like to refurbish those because apparently they’re not for sale anymore. Just thinking out loud here.

Very nice, love the level of roast on the neck. For a Canuck like me $997.00 cad shipped is a bit pricey. How ever Cor-tek does have some winners and until played can't judge value. The styling is blah (except for the neck). I would put some sub $700.00 cad instruments (Yamaha comes to mind) as see what the differences are.

I have had a Cort KX5 for years and absolutely loved it. I recently bought a KX508MS and was REALLY disappointed. The fret slots were cut neither deep not wide enough making the high G, B, E strings nearly impossible to tune. Even the string spacing is off. Apart from that the guitar is fine, but at that kind of price a botched nut job is not something you expect.

i'm old enough to remember cort from 30 years ago...and they were utter junk back then, much like Sammick. These days they make great looking guitars, amazing play ability and they stay intune. There has never been a better time to be a beginner with such quality units to learn on.

Phillip McKnight, what are your thoughts on the balaguer guitars? I've seen your review on the Halo semi-custom guitars but can't find any honest, unbiased reviews about balaguer but really like their models and available options. Would be awesome if i could see you do one! :)
