"Man up and earn the point, don't bit*h and whine" - he did. The game was replayed, and Short won.

Sadly in these last times, when there is a scandal in chess Danailov is behind it... Nobody created more scandals than this man

Clearly true, refusing to shake hands is a act of rudeness and may be made to try to get some form of psychological advantage by annoying the person being snubbed. short was correct

During the closing-ceremony of the 70th Corus Chess Tournament the following statement was made by the organizing committee. - On Sunday January 20th, 2008 we were confronted with an unpleasant situation when a participant refused to shake hands with his opponent. Such actions are a rude offense to the opponent, to the organizing committee as well as to the sponsor.

"he (Short) created the problem, not Cheparinov" he's sick i think
@johnnybrew18 жыл бұрын
Danailov tried to brazen this out and defend the indefensible. Cheparinov created the problem and he got his rightful comeuppance. It was sheer bad manners, apart from being against the rules.

He should be managing a wrestler, not a chess player.

Short deserves utter contempt for is comments

I think the rule should say that you must shake your opponants hand, or neck, before the game.

Short didn't create the problem. The arbiter made a mistake, that's all The real problem was Short stated his doubts about the honesty of Topalov in a previous tournament, and the Bulgarians (Cheparinov and Topalov are buddies) didn't like that. But Short only did this after Topalov accused Kramnik of cheating during their WC match (Toiletgate). It's a classical case of 'the pot calling the kettle black'.

chess is the game of kings! the good maners are very important! i am a turnament player and i don't agree with the gesture!

Everyone in the chess world knows who Nigel Short is, he's been a world championship finalist and has played in all the major tournaments many times over the years. He hardly needs PR. Cheparinov is still on the rise, has never played an elite event and so far less people have heard of him. He needs PR far more than Short

Why should I play with someone that refused intentionally to shake hands with me? Goodnight...
@gdounito7 жыл бұрын
he refused to shake because short called cheparinov danailonv and the whole topalov gm team "apes" in his one of his interviews. no one refuses to shake hands out of no where. short was the one who acted badly in the first place. so you cant expect the other guy to be a gentleman when you practically insulted him numerous times and publicly.

He didn't shake your hand whoop dee freakin do. What a baby.
@phoenixshade33 жыл бұрын
Your bias is showing. Short was correct; the arbiter made a mistake by not requesting the handshake before the forfeit. After an appeal, the game was played and the result confirmed Short's win. Justice served. F Danailov.
@lisyaron16 жыл бұрын
For the sake of one point, Danailov jeopardises his party's PR. 'Recommendation' only or not, to not shake hands is clearly poor sportsmanship and shows an absolute lack of manners and professionalism.

I don't think you can blame the split entirely on Short. Although he was partly to blame so was Kasparov and especially FIDE itself.

Turns out, it was a rule and he ended up getting smoked when they replayed the game.

What da fuck was that?Kasparov and Topalov they are both men and sportsmen?SPORTSMEN?u gotta shake the fuckn hand to be considered sportsman.every game ends with handshaking.its a respect towards the GAME itself first of all.even no rule fights have handshaking and whoever does not shake hands is not a sportsman.
@nekbeth16 жыл бұрын
would you shake hands with a person that said shit about you in public?? I think Cheparinov made a good decision
