Love how you’re getting into the nitty gritty martial artsy stuff on your channel/station. There’s a place for people who can tell great stories about fighting but it’s harder to find good down and dirty breakdowns like this from someone who does it for real at a high level

Cory, first rate, hard hitting, astute analysis. Your charm and enthusiasm as well for explaining the "real" chess game tactics in fighting is evident. You display that Bas Rutten "laughing lion" analysis only a seasoned professional can provide. On a side note, Tom A. personifies the powerful tactical and fight game theory use of speed and surprise of the John Boyd Top Gun fighter pilot OODA loop that bewilders and shuts down opponents. Those massive leg shots he thunders and hammer fists are the coup de grace in completing the OODA Loop. Different "altitudes" in the fight game, from the octagon in MSG/Vegas to the grander octagon in the sky of Top Gun dog fights, but the tactics to efficient, violent victory are the same. Tom A. deserves immense respect and admiration for his Top Gun performance. New US subscriber.

Dude loved this so much. Glad to see technical breakdown. I only know the very basics so hearing stuff like how a mover would want to mindfully commit tot he times he does choose to exchange so that he ducks his chin and that a mover is probably objectively a better style but more difficult to master... i don't see this really anywhere else. awesome

Great analysis from one of best technicians. Thank you. What are your thoughts on ufc stat tables covering last 30 yrs of mma fighters? Tom aspinall now has 1st position on 4 out of 32 tables. Gsp, Oliveira and Jim miller have 3 first positions each. Gsp number of takedowns, top position time, control time; Oliveira most bonuses, most finishes, most finishes by submission; Jim miller most fights, most wins and most takedown attempts, mm last one not a great record if u can’t finish. Tom is first for shortest fight time, best striking differential, shortest bottom position time and shortest bottom position time % of fight time. He is 3rd for strikes p minute and 4th for knockdowns p 15 minutes. All these tables are %, ratios etc and so tell you at mo who’s is best. If Tom gets outstruck or taken down against blaydes or his fight goes to three rounds his records fall. For legacy records of Oliveira, gsp and miller a loss or Oliveira getting subbed for the next 5 matches or gsp coming back and getting taken down and controlled for 90% of five rounds wont change any of their first positions. These records are written in stone until being superseded by another great. Can I add that aspinall doesn’t qualify for some tables which he would lead because he hasn’t reached the threshold yet. His sig strike accuracy at 67% would be 2nd all time to overeem. His td defence would be 1st at 100% over arce at 96% and jbj 2nd at 95%. The statleader table are a bit like a top trumps or Pokémon thing but apart from legacy top tens aspinall leads by a clear margin.

Pavlovich wasnt good Cody. The occasion got to him & Aspinall took him to school, either that or he just got outclassed. He was following Aspinall around like a lost Puppy, yes he caught him but on Aspinalls terms as he was exploring & probing for openings, which he identified then capitalised on in a BIG way, a very professional way. It was a stone cold performance by Aspinall, tactically it reminds me almost exactly how Sugar Ray Leonard took out Dave Boy Green, pure excellence. On that showing, Id say that Aspinall is up there with the Pro Boxers he trains with, Former World HW Champ Joe Parker, Current World Champ Tyson Fury, & Furys cousin Hughie Fury who also held an international HW Title. MAybe its because he has more options in defence, freeing him up to attack more freely than them, maybe its because he can kick, knee & elbow etc but looking at his footwork & timing Id say hes even better offensively than Tyson fury, excluding the 2nd Wilder fight. In terms of using his feet to generate power hes reminding me of Keith Thurman & Roy Jones. He DEFINITELY knows what hes doing & he has an ICE COLD big game temperament with it. Jon Jones is in TROUBLE.
@Steven-jd3ey
@Steven-jd3ey Жыл бұрын
You are overanalyzing the situation. Pavlovich throws big punches which hit hard but aren't super fast. Tom Aspinalls hands are way faster. Sergei has a great chin and tried to enter an extended combination with a check hook counter to Aspinalls jab. 1-2 hit him right on the button. Game over. No Aspinall didn't "take him to school", it wasn't on "Aspinalls terms", and no the occasion didn't "get to Pavlovich". This was a great 1-2 that ended a night quick at heavyweight. Pavlovich is still a GREAT fighter. Aspinall beats Jones, that's were you're right.

Tom Aspinall took that fight on 2 weeks notice off the couch hence probably why he probably got tagged in the beginning of the fight from a mistake from not enough sparring but all in and all he won that is absolutely insane to do on 2 weeks!

It's awesome that you're doing breakdown videos, Cory, and letting us in on some of that fight knowledge. I just noticed when you go to the wide shot, the autofocus unfortunately kept focusing mostly on the background with you mostly out of focus. Since you're mostly staying in one plane for this shot, have you tried using manual focus and just using a stand-in for yourself to catch focus? You can also stand a little bit closer where the autofocus can properly distinguish between foreground and background. In any case, keep killing it both in the UFC and now with this KZbin channel!
