Cosmic Rewind: The Worst Ride I’ve Loved

The new Guardians Of The Galaxy coaster is open at #EPCOT and it’s.. ok! I loved this new #Marvel attraction but I feel like it’s a bit much, with an overly complicated plot that muddies a really innovative ride system. Let me know what you guys liked or didn’t about the ride!

"Leave it to a wrestler" Well, of course--this is what pro wrestlers DO, really. They understand kayfabe: conveying a story through sketchy, cartoonish practical shenanigans with broad strokes. Shawn Rosell made a tiny review that didn't go into any detail but made me kind of think he felt the same way you do about the ride.

Ok so when we first got to ride this for the Cast Member previews, they fed us through the backstage areas and frankly even though without the context I really liked the ride because at that point it was just “Cool Space Mountain feat. Chris Pratt.” The preshow is fine, but you are right when it felt like there were just too many rooms.

Every ride through and deep dive video I’ve seen Cosmic Rewind has gotten me so excited to ride it on my next trip, but leave it to Disney Dan to make me question my taste when he nitpicks 🤣. I’m still excited for the ride because I adore the Guardians movies, but now when I see it all myself in person, I’ll notice those flaws as well. We can live in a world where we’re excited for things, but we know they’re problematic too

No need to question it, Dan is nitpicking off of stuff that isn't really even a problem (like how it doesnt make sense being in the mcu when none of the marvel stuff is canon anyways). The only issue with the ride i see is forcing it into Epcot

Stay excited for it! It's a fantastic ride. I'm not saying it bitterly, but content creators need to find things to talk about so often they go over the top on their subjects. I promise you it's very well thought out (for Guardians at least) and fun.

3:56 You might have a point with the “test-bouncing” joke! I was able to talk to the designer of the ride vehicles for Rise of the Resistance on a trip to Hollywood Studios, and she said that they had to make the droid on the ride vehicle withstand over 400 pounds of force in case someone decided to try and squeeze it as hard as they could (I don’t see why anyone would even try that, but I guess they had to design it that way). So, it’s entirely possible that the Imagineers tested for what would happen if one of those light fixtures suddenly fell from the ceiling.

The over-saturation of cartoon characters voiced by Chris Pratt feels even more ridiculous if you look up what happened to the last two animated movies he did: *_The Lego Movie 2_ : Underperformed due to a blizzard, resulting in WB deciding not to make any more Lego movies. *_Onward_ : Underperformed due to COVID lockdowns, resulting in Disney deciding to take a few years off from releasing any more Pixar movies in theaters. Why do the casting people for the Mario and Garfield movies expect him to bring them good luck?

I know this is supposed to be an over the top review of a ride that's was just made to be "fun enough". But I can't deny I enjoyed this attraction very much. It added something to epcot that I feel like the park needed and that was just an action packed story coaster. A ride that didn't need to be "Smart" it just needed to be fun and immersive. I'm not even a huge Guardians fan, but I won't deny I really liked this ride. To overthink on many of your claims on this ride is really to do a disservice to yourself. When most people go to themeparks we go to have fun, not to ride a ride that feels like it was written by Oscar winning screenplay writers. Don't get me wrong I love a good well thought out ride, but I like a little dumb fun here and there.

This ride solidified in my mind that Disney has no clue what to do with their properties anymore and that Universal is outplaying Disney when it comes to recent rides like Velocicoaster, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, and the Secret Life of Pets Dark Ride Disney is relying on screen based rides like Cosmic rewind Mickey and Minnie’s Runway not Railway, the Spider-Man Ride that got its technology second handed. Also Beast Wars had a good story. Do not diss Beast Wars, especially since some of the characters are going to appear on the big screen in “Transformers Rise of the Beasts” next year. Toy Story’s visuals have not aged well either and it had a good story and no one complains about it. Yet Beast Wars gets the bad end of the conversation despite having bad visuals and a good story that still holds up, just ridiculous.

As a CM, I've ridden it 7 times, I wanted to get it out of my system. I was done by ride #4 but when friends started to show up, I had to ride it more and yeah we need a vomitorium at the end, lol.

👏👏 COULDNT AGREE MORE. I thought i was the only one who felt this way. Well said dan! Those are all my EXACT thoughts and feelings about the ride. I rode Cosmic Rewind & it was disappointing, but hear me out because there are positives & negatives. I would say no spoilers here but theres just simply nothing to spoil. Nothing about this ride wowed me or left me wondering "how did they do that" like Rise of the Resistance, the Haunted Mansion, & Pirates of the Caribbean always have. I also had the chance to re-ride it following my 1st ride through but just didn't feel compelled to do so at all as I left thinking "well once was good enough" (probably not a good sign for a brand new attraction that includes one of my favorite IPs). As just a roller coaster, Cosmic Rewind is wihout a doubt a game changer. Its very much a modern take on space mountain. Its such an incredibly smooth ride. The ride system is unquestionably great & definitely innovative BUT I would love to see it utilized better by showcasing animatronics & sets (like the classic omnimovers that inspired this new omnicoaster) instead of screens & projections. Hopefully we'll see the imagineers put this ride system to good use in the near future. I just dont feel any connections with the characters when they're not physically represented in some way. It never feels like they're really going on this adventure with me whenever they're just projections. The queue/preshow have some cringy references to the MUCH BETTER EPCOT of the past. The references just made me sad because it made me acknowledge the death of EPCOT & how superior all of the 80s attractions truly were. The music was without a doubt my favorite part of the ride. I loved Rule the World & the Universe of Energy guitar riff right before the big bang. This reference to the superior attraction was easily my favorite part of the ride. If you're looking for an interesting & immersive story, you wont find it here. I just cant wrap my head around the fact that theres more animatronics at WDW from IPs such as a Bug's Life & Dinosaur (2 IPs that i do love) than freaking Marvel (a multi billion dollar generating powerhouse of a franchise). Speaking of dinosaurs, we lost a recreation the absolutely HISTORIC Primeval World diorama that featured a handful of animatronics for this. This baffles me even more when I consider the fact that theres an existing Rocket Racoon animatronic at DCA that could & should have been simply copied & pasted into this ride somewhere/anywhere.

Personally, this is my favorite ride I’ve ever been on! It wasn’t disorienting at all for me or my mom, who is usually very prone to motion sickness. I can agree that the whole pre show does drag on. But for me the second I get off I want to get back on, no matter how long the wait! However I do tend to enjoy attractions at face value: if they’re really fun, I love them!

Definitely a well overthought video. Not inaccurate, but overthought. Preshow effect was great - very enjoyable, and the ride itself is just a blast...but I don't disagree, we could do away with the guardians theme and make it another 'space journey' type ride... But I won't lie, I had a freakin blast. Also a protip for any that haven't ridden it yet - have someone get up with you for the 7 AM lightning lane booking. One of you book LL, the other book virtual queue. We were able to ride the thing twice in our day at Epcot, and it was fan-freakin-tastic.

It's not just that. There was a gigantic project to remake the entire front half of Epcot that got started, then interrupted and scaled down by the COVID pandemic, and Disney has been kind of struggling to figure out exactly how to finish it ever since. This ride was just one part of it.

I know completely ripping apart everything and anything from Disney theme parks is this guys job but this ride was obviously made for people who are fans of the guardians, kids and teenagers! Yes the story could be upgraded a little with something more new but believe it or not this ride has been in the works since 2014! Also the people who made the ride are insanely creative because its a huge process to be able to make something like this. It's just disgusting to see adult critics ripping apart things families are able to enjoy together. I met one of the people who helped create the ride after the 2nd time i rode it and it was amazing to hear what he had to say about it! Well as far as continuity is concerned with gaurdians in the parks it's very loose. Mission breakout is supposed to take place after gaurdians2 but Carina is still working for Tivan which makes no sense as she died in guardians1 from grabbing the power stone. Cosmic rewind is supposed to take place after guardians1 hence their Nova Corp outfits and no Mantis. The time travel plot creates a paradox and gets resolved like Sonic the hedgehog 2006, meaning it didn't happen as far as story continuity lol. There's never supposed to be a point only just there to enjoy the ride. I'm surprised they didn't include the tva at the end to prune our experience lol

You're right--way, WAY more than that, I think! That's usually how it is with roller coasters, though: a roller coaster ride can only be a couple minutes long at MOST, not counting things like lift hills (which this doesn't have).

I love the ride ! Lol I rode it three times, Passholder preview, cast member preview, opening day, got the same song 2 times, everybody wants to rule the World by Tears for Fears, I also liked the Easter eggs from do universe of energy like The universe of energy guitar riff and the Ding dang joke lol que line cool, yes I wish they would’ve done the Groot and rocket animatronics but I heard they had to make budget cuts for the ride so they cut out the animatronics. And it’s nice to know that Epcot finally has a roller coaster so now all four parks have a roller coaster, the music is great etc I never got sick on it once yet. The Galaxarium aka the first room is amazing Plus you can kind of tell where everything used to be In the que line ☺️😁 overall I enjoyed it

Guardians cosmic rewind was one of the best rides I hav ever been on.Most Disney rides have similar features but that doesn’t stop Gaurdians from being a good ride😤

I love everything you said in this video, too many people forget how it really is okay to like different things and to respect each other's rights to their feelings. I also loved that you mentioned Beast Wars. That still my favorite Transformers series!

Please do a deep dive for Rise of The Resistance!! I went on it for the first time a few weeks ago, completely blind on what to expect. It was soooo much fun! I’m not a mega Star Wars fan or anything, but it’s easily become my favorite thing across all the parks now.

The original concept was suppose to be about the big bang and traveling through the time of the universe creation in the usual EPCOT theming of science and education. It was later changed to include the Guardians IP.

I can’t ride it again. I have to take my glasses off out of fear of them falling off and losing them again. But I end up not able to focus on anything and with the spinning and darkness and the fast moving, I felt like I was going to throw up 3 times on the ride! Maybe if I can find a way to not lose my glasses I might try again
