This is simply untrue. Polyphonic singing is a typical Thracian/Bulgarian feature. It can still be observed in the Razlog/Bansko region, where young lads gather in the evenings and sing polyphonic tunes without Philip Koutev, the director/conductor of our socialist time adapting their songs. He simply transferred this existing knowledge to all the Bulgarian folklore. Do not underrate what he has achieved, all the world has heard about Bulgaria thanks to him. The so-called Byzantium church singing is similar to that, Byzantine, but created by the Bulgarian Yoan Kukuzel.
@kabouktli3 жыл бұрын
@@chistachkata The few times that I've heard true folk polyphonies from Bulgaria, by village people apparently alien to any kind of official training, it was very different from this. It was not "sweet", not "mysterious", it was rather wild, often with daring dissonances, of a general aesthetic similar to that of Greek Epirot, Albanian, or Macedonian folk polyphony. Really fascinating, obviously archaic and real, but not as catchy and easy listening as to make the world talk abut Bulgaria.

This kind of music makes me realize that one day I’ll (though “I’ll” will not apply) one day never hear music again, and I truly pre-mourn that fact, and I’m saying this because this is a perfect example of why that is a predominant aspect of death that hurts me - to lose the amazing art we have created, beautiful music that transcends as well as reflects our collective spirit and dreams. It is worth being healthier to stay longer, it is worth existing even with nobody and living in a homeless shelter- which I do- all the more with access to music such as this, openlibrary, all our amazing cinema, access to public piano’s - just- thank fuck for art, and nonetheless I’ll be listening to this on repeat for the rest of my life.

I have as well some songs´ names, here you have, if you do not have these pieces names: the last song is "Zaburil beh da se zhenya", in 33:08 the song is "Rechenski Kamen", but I have just one part of the lyrics from 34:02 check it... 1. If you know cyrillic and you wanna sing, at least, this part, then I hope you enjoy this song, I hope as well return here and offer them more contributions, greetings from Mexico 😊😉 I forgotten one thing: if you want to see some of these songs and others, you can check it in the Simona Stanoeva channel, she appears here in this ensamble.

Whoever gazes at your green, Forever will regret, That they cannot beneath your shade Their life in peace forget. And one who’s fated to depart, Away from you to roam, Shall never, while they live and breathe, Forget your tender home. Your mighty oaks and beechy woods, Your glades so fresh and wide, Your blossoms bright, your sparkling streams, The birds that sing with pride, Their joyful songs, their lively games, In calm of evening’s glow, All cherish dearly what you guard, Your treasures high and low. Ah, is this not the heavenly realm? Are you not God’s own shrine? Beautiful you are, my forest, You breathe of youth divine!**

Each composition has its own region of origin within the country. There are some specifics from which you can tell which region the song is from. For example if there are sudden stops before the phrase ends or there are very high short "yells" (Shopluk). Or if the song is more even and minor in sound (Thrace). The style of the songs has been modeled through different historical influences like the Ottoman rule over the years. What makes it different is the technique - women are singing mainly from the throat, not so much like western belcanto supported from the diafragm. This way of singing is much more demanding on the vocal chords. Also the vocal range in the folklore songs is very short - only 1 octave.
