Literally only Avdol has an unceremonious death in Part 3. He gets erased by Vanilla Ice and Cream. Iggy gets a dramatic sacrifice to save Polnareff, and Kakyoin gets to take his last moment of living thought to warn Joseph about DIO's Stand after deducing it *as he is dying* Past part 3? Shigechi gets an insanely dramatic death at Kira's hands, Aya gets a horrific death from him as well. And Kira's own death is incredibly dramatic.

In part 3 Jotaro got annoyed by girls ganging up on him but in part 4 when Tomoko confuses him for Joseph he just calmly explains who he is. That would not have happened in part 3. And this is just a small example. Jotaro by nature is a quiet and reserved person, but theres so many moments of him being empathetic as he got older. “the deaths were unceremonious” yeah because THATS HOW DEATH IS. my best friend was hanging out in her living room one day when her dad started groaning in the other room. ten minutes later, he was dead. no last words, no dramatic goodbye, he just died right in her arms. that’s what makes araki’s writing so impactful, because it doesn’t pander to the audience’s need for closure. Grief is painful and unexpected and raw; you sometimes don’t get to say “i love you” or even “i’m sorry” before that person is gone, and i think deaths like caesar and narancia really encapsulate that feeling. they leave people behind (joseph and fugo) who have to live with the burden of words left unsaid. God i hate how reductive cosmo’s language is, he fundamentally misunderstands the story but preaches to his hundreds of thousands of viewers like his words are the truth.
@Magnet_Chaos
@Magnet_Chaos 3 жыл бұрын
Even then I wouldn't use the word unceremonious. We do get a send off for every character that dies. Be it their Ghost visiting the surviving companion, the narrator giving a speech, or something else. Like Narancia had the most "unceremonious" death. But the entire story took a quick break to acknowledge his death. The anime even added that scene with Fugo. The only death that I consider completely unceremonious happens in Part 7.

But multiple times I watch the film after seeing his videos and am surprised with how bad they hold up. Actually, I think that Josuke had character growth, though not as grand as your typical shounen protag. At the beginning of part 4, Josuke was the carefree kid who got pissed off at anyone who talk shit about his hair. After his grandfather died because of Aqua Necklake, an enemy stand, and Josuke with his power couldn't save him, was told by Jotaro to give up, Josuke swore to be the protector of Morioh like what his grandpa did as a policeman. During the Killer Queen fight, he managed to save 2 people from Killer Queen's ability, one of whom was Hayato who also told Josuke to give up because the dead can be revived, but Josuke didn't and believed Okuyasu to be still alive. And in the end, Okuyasu didn't die because Josuke didn't give up his hope (and Okuyasu just say "I wanna go home"). It's honestly beautiful.

Giorno being a placid and subdued main character doesn't make Part 5 any less enjoyable to me because he is written that way to enhance other characters like Bruno and Mista . Not every protagonist have to steal the spotlight in every scene they're in and Giorno's character is an example of doing this perfectly . I also agree with the point that not every character has to progress throughout the story , for example Spike in Cowboy Bebop doesn't change as a person through the story but that doesn't make him a bad character because he performs his role in the story , which is influencing people that he meets in his journey and confronting his past . Giorno's character does the same function in his story because he helps the people around him to grow , like how he gives Bruno the courage to stand up against the boss or how Giorno was able to help Abbachio find redemption from his past .
@roserose109
@roserose109 3 жыл бұрын
the idea that "this character bad because he doesn't change" is just a myth. A myth that I'm seeing pop up a lot among the anime community. No guys, characters don't need to have character arcs to be a "good or likable character". The most important thing a character needs is a goal (which Giorno has) and not be a blank slate (which Giorno isn't). A lot of very popular, well-loved and good characters don't change into someone else all during their story Just accept that you just don't like that character and move on. That literally _your opinion_ . It doesn't bother me that you don't like a character I like. I like Joseph and Polnareff, but a certain reviewer on youtube doesn't like them personally and I don't care. Because that's _fine_ But making up lies about writing? Creating a false narrative on what makes a good character? Flanderizing the character you hate? Just to make your opinion more "objective"? Now that just pisses me off

She found the show ok, but not substantial and then began to hate it, because many people "forced" it on her. But yeah, Cosmonaut needs to clean his glasses and his brain, because his comments are so easily to dismiss, even by someone like me, who only watched the first four episodes of Part 3 (because i only look series or films with friends, it became boring watching on my own.).

The part about the "unceremonious" character deaths kinda shocked me because that's actually a positive for me. In almost any other media when an important character dies there's tons of fanfare are you can almost tell that it is going to happen. In Jojo the characters mostly just die. It makes each death hit a little harder because they were here one moment and now they are gone. Avdol's death scarred me psychologically because I saw the character I had grown attached to just get instantly KOed and the characters couldn't focus on mourning him, they had to survive. Avdol died a hero but it was sudden and I wasn't ready for him to go.

I feel like he is actually being a bit unintentionally sexist when calling Polnareff cowardly. A part of Polnareff's complexity is how he uses stereotypically masculine fronting to cover for his stereotypically feminine emotional sensitivity. His "ladies man" schtick comes across as both comical and heartbreaking for me, because he is clearly a man who can relate to women better than most men, yet oblivious to this because he wants to dive headfirst into a traditionally masculine gender role. What bugs me is how Cosmo would never call out the same traits as "cowardly" coming from a female character. He is accidentally playing into the double standard towards men that demands they be more emotional while shaming them for getting emotional.

The whole thing about Diavolo’s story is that he’s a mystery. He’s a guy who doesn’t want his identity revealed at all costs, so much so that he can conjure up a separate identity that is unaware of his real connection with his boss. I think it’s really fitting that we have to wait until the very end to see what the guy looks like. He has such a hard time revealing his identity that, when we first see him in Venice, he has to hide in robes, in the the darkest corner of the room, because of the slightest chance that someone may see him, it’ll be hard to make out what he looks like.

Second, the fight seemed to suggest that Kakyoin's goal at the time wasn't landing a blow, but rather to draw out as much information about TW as he could, which worked out despite it leading to his death, and ultimately changed the tide of battle into Jotaro's favor. In a way, it's like Avdol's death; A noble sacrifice.

Hell even with Joseph he could not get the information in time and even he could not even do anything about the stop time. Its like him finding out that dio could stop time meant almost nothing. At least to me anyway

@@keodiozubu8670 If Kakyoin didn't find out about TW's ability and didn't leave his dying message for Joseph to understand, Jotaro would most likely have stepped into Dio's range when Joseph and Dio fell from the rooftops. Joseph yelling about him having to keep his distance kept Jotaro from doing so and ultimately saved Jotaro from being able to be killed in the same timestop Dio "killed" Joseph in. If Joseph didn't have that information beforehand, the fight would've ended then and there. It's funny that you describe timestop as being "simple" despite how absolutely broken it is. It's absolutely feasible that Kakyoin, who didn't know of the ability at that point, wouldn't be able to actually hurt Dio. In fact, the fact that he managed to get close to harming Dio is noteworthy on it's own. Hol Horse's attempted betrayal has shown just how terrifying timestop can be if you have no way to counter it, which has only been done by Jotaro armed with the information of TW's ability plus SP being basically the same Stand. And some rats for some reason. Jotaro is the main character; Of course he'd get the privilege of actually playing Dio at his own game and harming him. If you don't know someone has a timestop ability and/or you have no way to get around the problem, the enemy can just stop time, move out of harm's way and kick you in the balls in the meantime, which is what Dio did. Kakyoin getting the information was really the best he could do and like I said earlier ultimately saved Jotaro's life. It's faithful to what Dio has shown to be capable of while also giving Kakyoin a bit of spotlight, even if it did kill him.

@@ninjakidkat12 That's sorta of a stretch. Cuz the only thing preventing Jotaro from staying back is Joseph saying stand back. Jotaro could have stopped for minute or two just process what happened or Joseph could have figured it out himself and it would have the same affect. Also freaking polnaerf got a stab in and that was close range granted by surprise but still. Also being simple does mean it cant be broken( ots a non point but still). Kakyoin stand had many abilities at his disposal and he could do his from long range. How come he did not even get in one hit in why polnaerf got at least a good stab? His main contribution to the whole fight just seems( my opinion by the way) to relying information that either he could not beat, Jotaro beat by himself and mostly figured out by himself and to Joseph saying at that exact time stay back which could have been without that.

Let me quote someone who described Giorno "He's calm and cool" -Cosmonaut Variety Hour Cosmo literally says Giorno has no character traits then proceeds to contradict himself in less then 30 seconds by saying he's calm and cool. How he has the amount of subscribers he does baffles me.

"Part 1 isn't that memorable", but it's only 44 chapters/9 episodes and people remember Kono Dio Da, Danny's death, Dio rejecting his humanity, Speedwagon's abs, Sunlight Yellow Overdrive, Zeppeli's sacrifice, Dio making a mother eat her own baby, Thunder Cross Split Attack, and Jonathan's death. One could argue it's the most memorable since there is so little of it.

25:04 - Is he serious? Araki's whole signature writing style is establishing introductory character traits the moment you meet them. THE MOMENT YOU MEET THEM. You see this not just with Giorno, but with everyone -- including Bucciarati, Fugo, Narancia, Mista and Abbaccio. Hell, especially Diavolo, and that's BEFORE you've even seen him.
