The “ice skating uphill” line was apparently from Wesley Snipes himself. When they went through the script, he described Deacon Frost as someone who’s always trying to ice skate uphill. The director liked it so much he put it in the movie. I’m assuming the line means Deacon’s ambitions are way too much for him to handle but he can’t see his mistakes. Or something.

@@TheShitpostExperience I see what you're saying but I'd kinda wager the opposite. It was from a time when comedic superhero movies weren't a thing, so Blade by today's standards where most comic book movies try to have a winking self-awareness to them really sticks out as being serious and earnest to the point of comedy at some moments (to be clear I still think the first Blade movie is great).

@WarriorBoy
@WarriorBoy Жыл бұрын
@@Yoshimitsu4prez 1) "Most" doesn't mean all, the MCU produces more hero flicks by volume than anyone else, so my point stands. 2) I also remember how The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the best products of the DCEU, had no humor. Certainly no running gags in either. Just like how Aquaman, which was watchable, didn't have a scene where Aquaman offered to pee on a puzzle. Nope, totally serious 100%. Shazam, probably the third best DCEU project, was also a stone-faced examination of man's folly with nothing but ol' grimdark thoughout. Even "The Batman", which is better than most of the MCU and DCEU put together had Battinson making dry puns. There's just more humor and self-awareness by volume in the modern era of superhero film, whereas it was a mostly dead genre when Blade came out, and serious, "xTRemE" action movies were very much the style back then.

The reason why Blade never killed Quinn in the beginning was to follow him back to Frost's hideout. He knew fire wouldn't kill him but would probably force him to go home sooner than later. The plan fails when Blade stops to save Dr. Jensens' life. When he reports to Whistler later on, Whistler asks "Did you get a lead on him?", meaning Frost. And Blade disappointedly says "No".

The decline and failure of the _Blade_ franchise can be summed up in one name: David Goyer. Goyer wrote the screenplay for the first film but assumed greater control of each project as he moved from Executive Producer of _Blade II_ (2002) and Director of _Blade: Trinity_ (2004). Wesley Snipes’ production company, Amen Ra Productions has a credit on the first 3 movies, but behind the scenes Goyer undercut Snipes with New Line Cinema, taking control of the Marvel IP to become show runner of _Blade:the Series_ in 2006. _Blade: Trinity_ was not only Goyer’s first movie, he was trying to set-up a _Nightstalkers_ spin-off franchise with Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel _without_ Wesley Snipes. If you were Wesley, you were probably contractually obliged to become a supporting character in your own franchise, while was in his cabin planning the next phase of the _Blade_ IP with a pair of white kids, rather than you. It’s no wonder why Snipes stayed in his RV during the entire _Blade:Trinity_ shoot - Goyer was robbing him blind and the suits at New Line Cinema were siding with him. How else did Goyer end up as the Executive Producer of _Blade:the Series_ with the rapper, Sticky Fingaz, playing Blade?

And this is why I have no respect for Marvel. Blade dragged them out of trash, and in return they allowed whole franchise to be wasted. Goyer is known racist. He since first Blade movie repeatedly said that Blade should be white, he hated Snipes with passion since first movie. Then for some reason brainiacs gave him control of project. And to my memory Snipes half funded movie to begin with, he liked role of Blade so much that he committed to it. Granted Goyer and others approached few others for role as Blade and got rejected, so he was only one interested and committed to movie. How can you respect company that has no respect for it's own history ? If they cared so little for a movie that literally saved them .. what does it say about rest of movies they did.

If I'm remembering the Dracula book correctly, this is actually said pretty explicitly by Van Helsing. I think the worst part about the whole “Of COURSE holy water and crosses don’t work, this is real life!” Thing is that it ignores that the only reason silver and garlic are weaknesses is because they’re ALSO religious symbols. Silver was seen as religiously pure, and garlic was thought to repel vampires because of its pungent smell and the fact it helped repel diseases.

Even today, I unironically see the first Blade movie as one of the best Marvel adaptations ever created. Not very faithful to the source, but stylish and uncompromising. It's one of those few movies where the actor's charisma bleeds into the character's personality, and Snipes redefined Blade as a certified badass with no moral compass. One of the best "Are vampires vulnerable to this?" scenes I've seen in media is in the UK show Being Human, where in one of the later scenes one character asks a vampire if the blowing a vampire up with a grenade would kill one when discussing a plot to blow up a vampire lair, and it goes like this: Alex: “Do vampires die if you blow them up?” Hal: “Most things die if you blow them up. Hi! Audio Engineer for Film Production Major here! When most movies are filmed they hardly ever use the dialogue recorded on set, mainly cause boom mics can’t pick up shit, so they instead overdub it in a post-production studio to get a clean and clear recording. This is referred to as ADR. There’s a really cool video on here showing Jack Black recording his dialogue in post for Peter Jackson’s King Kong. Blade Trinity has that chick with the terrible voice cause of her teeth, which means they either didn’t put in the minimal effort to do the ADR, or she did her post-recording at the studio with the teeth in.

Two things: 1) the guy who talks about vampires in the news in Blade 3 is right now playing Daniel Molloy in AMC's Interview With the Vampire, so that's some weird typecasting; 2) Parker Posey, the weird-talking fem-vamp in Blade 3, is awesome, but getting her to play a vampire is like getting Christopher Walken to play an MCU villain.

I am gonna have to argue with this one here, having a cure for vampirism does not mean they have the ability to administer it to everyone on the planet or even convince half of the vampires to stop being vampires.

it does however, mean that any fight can be ended immediately if the goal was to turn them into not a vampire

@@billygoatguy3960 But that was also never Blades goal, he is driven by his hatred of vampires, he wants to see them die. His inherant distrust of them benefits him several times too, in the second movie especially so.
