Quick(ish) overview of the main pieces of my home gym and how much it all cost. In the future I'd like to re-visit this video and discuss pros/cons of the equipment and if I'd change anything after I've gotten the chance to train on it for a bit.

+cheezwhizvids What's $200 when you're already spending 2k...If 200 is crazy to you, then you shouldn't be looking at a 2k rack, just saying.
@cheezwhizvids
@cheezwhizvids 8 жыл бұрын
+Sean Scarmack IMO $200 is better spent on many other things in a home gym than a blue paint job, regardless of how rich you feel you are (and I didn't get a "money-is-no-object" vibe from this video). Black is the "free" color, by the way. Nothing wrong with black. Spend the $200 on jump boxes, more plates, dumbbells, sound, etc.
@ScarmackProductions
@ScarmackProductions 8 жыл бұрын
cheezwhizvids I mean, I'd rather have black personally haha. But in the grand scheme of things, he spent over 5k....$200 is nothing...But I honestly couldn't couldn't agree more though, I'd rather have black and put in some speakers ;)
@cheezwhizvids
@cheezwhizvids 8 жыл бұрын
+Sean Scarmack Even if I won $5K to spend on a home gym, I wouldn't dedicate $200 of it to rack paint. I might finish the room's walls if I wanted it to look nicer. Drywall is $10/sheet, just sayin'... Anyway more power to Brandon for doing it his way with his hard-earned money. To me, $200 is five months' gym membership. Easy choice.

Not a bad investment. The home gym would pay itself off in roughly 4.5 years considering the cost of my current gym's monthly dues. Of course, this isn't taking into account the convenience factor of having a gym in the basement.
@BasementBrandon

I got several hundred pounds of steel plates by buying olympic weight sets on sale from Dick's. The bars from those sets are shit so I bought a quality bar from rogue. Then, I made a deadlift platform and had a simple and sturdy rack custom fabricated for pretty cheap. 800 lbs of steel, a rack, a bench, a good bar, and a couple of odds and ends ran me a little over $1100 or so. It's not overly pretty but it does the job.

Got to factor in the fact he doesn't have to drive to the gym. Probably only costs 10-20 minutes of your time and a couple bucks in gas but 4x a week, 52 weeks a year that adds up. Also after 200 months he still has all the equipment in perfect working order. It will still be worth a couple thousand bucks even in twenty years time because this stuff all lasts. So big initial investment but pays for itself over and over in the long run

All I have in my homegym is a power rack, a barbell, a bunch of plates (I collected over time). The power rack has a dip bar and a pull up bar. I also have an adjustable angle bench. I have all of this for under 1 grand. I bought the power rack from a friend who was moving and never used the rogue power rack he bought. I got my plates from various sources. The first ones were from him. Then I bought some bumper plates from a gym that was closing because I like to Oly lift (trained under an oly lifting coach for 2 years, so I know the correct form and such). The bench was the only thing I bought new.

I think the money you spent is well worth it. I only went to the gym a few times a month due to it being too crowded and traffic to get there was a huge pain. Now I wake up, load up on carbs, and walk a few yards to my shed that houses my Sorinex XL Rack. It's all peaceful and quiet so I can focus on making precision gains! The only time I use my cheap ($9/month) 24Hour gym membership is for emergencies or for when I'm out of town. But I miss the quality and state of my equipment every time I do.

Hobbies are super expensive. Suggestions: deadlift blocks, safety squat bar, chalk bowl, mirrors, lat pulldown/row/cable machine for accessories, powerblock dumbells and of course a punching bag to vent when your lift won't go up. You might want to consider adding hooks to the platform somehow for deadlifts with bands - if that makes sense.

Very cool, thanks for sharing man! In the future, I might invest in a home gym as well. The gym I currently go to has too many old people and some of them complain when I'm deadlifting heavy, which gets me out of my zone. And more traditional gyms are always busy when I need to go. Having a home gym would solve all my problems and would allow me to grunt like a Neanderthal without judgement.

Any plans on getting an adjustable dumbbell set for the home gym? I've owned the Ironmaster Quick-lock dumbbells for about 5 years now and they're just as solid as they day I bought them. They can be adjusted from 5-120lbs in 2.5lb increments, which I find handy.
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 8 жыл бұрын
+adavis89 Debating if I want to go adjustable or just buy a few pairs. If I find one that's cost effective and also gives me good return on the value maybe I'll pull the trigger.

great set up. Who cut the Rogue rack for you? Can you order it cut? Also, I am guessing that means you can do standing presses as you would crush the plates into the ceiling. I'm in the same situation there. Thanks

Oh, and excellent, well organized information tour. I'm doing a new home gym....video made it easier, after I've been checking one site after another for equipment.....I like very firm flat benches for benching...Based on your level of workouts, is the Rogue bench firm enough for heavy benching? You sold me on the Rogue plates. Again, thanks for the professional vid.
