NETFLIX CORRECTION: I stupidly stated the annual UK cost with the Moroccan monthly cost, so I am putting that right, here. Annual Moroccan Netflix is 1,080dhs or £86.65 compared with the £135 annual cost of Netflix in the UK - It is still a significant gap compared to the gap between the cost of Netflix in the two countries in 2020.

The base salery in morocco is 3000 dhs : the cost of a gym membreship. You need to compare the pourcentage of each cost to the salery. For example iphone = 3 month salery in morocco ...

I am Belgian, I have lived in Morocco for a little over 10 years. Living in Morocco with €, £ or $ in your pocket and earning a living in these currencies gives the impression of financial ease. But when you work and earn your living in dirhams I can guarantee that life in Morocco is excessively expensive, much more expensive than the UK or Europe. And apart from the very pleasant climate, life in Morocco is far from easy. Impossible to make a real comparison, surviving in dirhams or living in pounds (euros or dollars)... it's not at all the same fight

I know it is not easy if you are paid a Moroccan wage. Towards the end of the video, I do acknowledge that Moroccans have suffered from the cost of living crisis. Poor people in both countries have. I think there is a view in Morocco that the UK can't be all that bad as it is a "developed" nation, but people are suffering a lot in the UK.

As a Moroccan i can say that the prices given are pretty much accurate, only for gas bill most of Moroccan we only use gas bottle for cooking , i think in the UK gas bill included cooking and heating., but again morocco isn't known for very cold weather, so you will be fine with AC and heating equipment that use electricity. another change that i think you should notice in the future is you will find more Moroccan could communicate in English.

I live in Fes city, really cold in winter, ultra hot in summer, I have 3 air conditioners (huge one = 36k BTU, the second two = 11k BTU), in summer they work nearly full day, and I pay less than 2000/2500 Dh/m for that... if the same situation in the UK, all your average salary won't be enough for that... also, I use one of the most modern and sophisticated central heating in the market at home (energy hungry) that works 24/24 in the winter time, including floor-walls heating/water heating/etc, it takes between 6 to 8 gas cylinders, so less than 30£/m, you can't even imagine doing that in the UK with an average or higher income!! So Gari is right, if you take the small things in daily living, Morocco is by far a better place to live if you have a good income!!

The cost of living in Morocco is very cheap for Foriegners from European states compared to native Morocans. A regular Moroccan still suffers and struggls with life necessities on a daily basis, as most of them recieve minimum wages range between( 220 dollars to 350 dollars a month). However, in morocco we still have solidarity, love, and a strong family bonds. We love this country of ours, its people, and its King. Long live Morocco.

Great video. To be honest I was waiting for more comparisons like private school (which is a must nowadays for Moroccans) and also in terms of individual income and minimum wage. As a Moroccan, I've noticed that in Europe you get 3 times more than the salary you may get in Morocco with the same work/experience. With that, I guess having 3 times the income of a Moroccan can cover the high expenses in the UK, but it's hard to survive with the Moroccan salary in Morocco with those prices.

I have lived in Rabat for almost ten years. I can say from personal experience that I change my gas bottle every three months. I can almost time it to the day - certainly the week. Outstanding effort ! I think the solidarity of the Moroccan ppl helps a lot in terms of food and gas expenses. In general, Morocco is the cheapest version of a « pseudo-European » country and that’s so attractive for tourists and western residents. In terms of the electricity and gas bills, i think that, after the X-Links Power project, the UK will have the opportunity to control those exponential rises by working on expanding this strategy of decarbonized energy.

I totally agree with you when it comes to the solidarity of the Moroccan people. There is certainly a culture of helping each other out. It's a culture that you do see in the UK, but not as much or as passionately as you do in Morocco. As a single person living in Morocco, I strongly disagree with your claim. My bottle ALWAYS lasts me about three months. I can almost predict to the day when my bottle will need replacing. I have lived in Morocco for ten years. Bottle after bottle and year after year, I need to replace them every three months.

We have more expensive Gas, Cars, Tariffs, Insurance, Healthcare, Education etc... while making waaay less.

I think with 1500 pounds a month you will live very comfy in Morocco here in London house renting is very expensive plus no quality properties unless you pay a couple hundred pounds more plus move a bit out of m25 circular I used to rent a few months ago inside m25 a grand floor flat 1200 pounds the landlords gave me the notice to pay 1400 pounds for a single bedroom flat with garden i moved out of m25 i rent now a house 1600 pounds a month two-bedroom upstairs with bath and toilet and great living room downstairs with kitchen toilet and great garden free parking quite a location which is paradise safe and less council tax than inner London plus risks to get your car damaged by other vehicles when parked

Thank you for this great documentary. To cover the 4 corners, a comparison of the Yearly net income is a must; only living cost is half the truth; what you earn dictate what you can spend: try at least a comparison in the following professions: Teacher highschool; College; university. Public health doctors; nurses, police at all levels; Ouvrier; waiter; taxi driver; public transport drivers….. I think!

put in perspective the salaries that's where you see the real difference an average salary in Morocco is about 300£/month so for someone that doesn't have a house and renting with like 90£ or 100£ things get really tight so even if it's Just a 1% increase in Morocco it makes a big change and it hits us real bad rather more than 1% 😢

First thanks and million thanks for this precious comparison between the two countries, this is equally important for folks from Great Britain who are planning to visit our country Morocco, so they can plan their financial situation ahead of time. However, just a little remark regarding the cost of living here in Morocco as opposed to England, and that is the difference in purchasing power here in Morocco, which is depending primarily on wages, and salaries, and also the pricing, which is also determined by the size of the economy here in Mirocco Vs the size of its pair in Egland....! Nevertheless, it is very important and very educational comparison... Thank you

hey Sullivan, I think it was important to also mention the difference in salaries in the UK vs Morocco, it puts in perspective why things that seem cheap in comparison to their prices in the UK are not as cheap to us who get a very different salary. Just to help you out, an average salary here is about 3600-5000dh, you can see that it can barely cover the cost of living, leaving very little wiggle room for entertainment :/ ETA: the salaries mentioned here are salaries for people working in the private sector, in which, the positions are becoming increasingly scarce & people are struggling to keep their jobs cuz companies know that people will always apply & that they dont have to keep employees if they don’t worship their job. Now, on average, people with no high degrees earn around 2500-3000dh, & most of them have families to feed…

Most of your comparisons are on point except for the so-called gas bill. There is no such a thing as heating gas in Morocco. Most Moroccan households don't have heating. The gas bottle is strictly for cooking and will not last 3 months if the intended use is anything else but single burner stove cooking. For example, these bottles are used in agricultural applications, and will not last a full day if they're used to generate power. These gas bottles are also subsidized by the government and currently there are controversial debates about lifting the subsidy.

As a moroccan this is truly interesting, and I'd like to summarize some major points about Morocco's cost of living and related points/issues: 1. If you were a foreigner you wouldn't find that many difficulties managing your spendings during a holiday, exactly the opposite for moroccans (read point 4) 2. There's a sort of bourgeoisie that started to form recently in cities like Fes or Marrakech, basically just a special traditional style of living that most people can't afford anymore, but very common in big families that reside in Old Medinas (old cities, or basically just older parts of certain cities like Meknes, Fes, Rabat, Marrakech and Tetouan, I think there's only 5 but I may have forgot a city.) 3. Some cities also find difficulties renovating and fixing historical monuments. 4.The cost of living skyrocketed in the summer of 2022, food and nutrition got alot more expensive than before, gas reached an all time high, there's hope for all of this to change as long as the parliament does its best of efforts, but both minimum and medium wage people are struggling, especially since if you want proper education for your children you'll need to resort to private schools in most cases. (this relates to points 5 and 6). 5. There's protests in public schools preventing students from studying anything at all, because teachers are against some regulations in the teaching space, whereas for private schools there's no problem... 6. The gap between the level of education of those 2 gradually keeps increasing in favor of private schools, whereas in the 1900s it was the exact opposite and public schools were the way to go, and that's due to may various factors, mainly related to institutions only caring about money. Nicely detailed video tho, well done! 👏
