Hey guys. Healthcare. We are getting a lot of comments about this. Izai's health insurance is provided by her job. As for me i currently do not have health insurance. I know this is not good, i don't need you guys telling me how bad it is. I do plan to get it soon. I would have mentioned this but it just slipped my mind because it isnt actually something we are currently paying for. But if you are still using your insurance from back home it will just he the same or similar. I really dont know much about insurance for expats. This is something i will learn more about and do a video on in the future.

I am not sure if it’s possible for Izay to add you to her Philhealth? I heard some expats say they have Philhealth. You might have to marry her to get you into Philhealth. Lol!😂

Cody, you should have insurance coverage since you guys are using a motorcycle as your means of going around. Try to check if you are eligible for Philhealth. If not, try to check further if it is not costly for you to get from Pacific Cross, as most expat residents here are getting. Like I said you should have one that covers accident and life.

Yeah, coz this is the biggest problem ever. For old man like me, its terrible expensive to get a good health insurance and if you get one, then excluding previous illnesses and up to 72 they fire you. I saw a lot of expats completely ruins after a big illness like cancer, or heart attac. They lost everything. Also if you have an accident in this terrible, dangerous traffic. Maybe, if you dont die, you need a very good private hospital, good doctors and some operations? Sorry, its absolutely careless to live there without a health insurance!!

I lived in Cebu city back in 2015. Had an extremely nice 2 bedroom apartment. My total cost for rent, electricity, water (including drinking water), gas, & internet was on average $389.00 per month. I owned a motorbike, and road tripped every weekend. Ate at home during week days. There was never a month where I spent over $900.00 per month. And never once felt any kind of suffering...quite the opposite. And that was for 2 people!!!

A couple years ago we deployed to Australia for half a year and worked with the Filipino army. Met a friend of hers a year later and she’s from Badain, Cebu. Trying to fly to the Philippines whenever they re-open to see her, meet her family, and explore Cebu. I’m hoping to move there when I’m done with school in a few years. Excellent video on budgets. Better than many people older than yourselves. Congratulations on covering a down to earth budget with most of the costs shown. I have lived in the Philippines for far less, but I am not that fussy. The freedom to do as you wish, makes up for many of the things you do without.

Awesome! I remember it well, many years ago, when it was just me and the wife and this was a different Philippines, living here seemed to be almost free. Fast forward to 2021. I've been a permanent resident for 13 years, this is our home, and we have a 13-year-old in the 7th Grade. That almost free has now become P75,000 a month. But after adding all of the trimmings, some of which we aren't spending at the moment, it continues to climb. Eating out, movies, Landers/S&R, spending money/allowances, taxis, etc changes the picture. We live in Talisay City, we don't really have a set budget, and we rent a good-sized 3/2 house in a pretty decent subdivision. We spend right around P100,000 a month 😲 We could of course live here on less than that. But for a family of 3, living here somewhere in the middle of American and Filipino lifestyles, that's pretty reasonable to me.

People should be more concerned about "your own cost of living". I drive an F-150 truck in america. So if I stayed in the philippines and rode a bike, instead of driving an F-150, and told you it is cheaper here in the philippines. Would that be a fair comparison? The food in the philippines cost the same or even more than in California. The gas price is the same as in Ca. The vehicles cost more than in Ca for the same Model. If you want to live cheap in the philippines, then you NEED TO DOWN GRADE YOUR COST OF LIVING. That means you live in the Ghetto of the philippines. You will not drive a car. you will walk..... You will not go to Mcdonalds or any fastfood restaurant. I live in the philippines 6months out of the year and I live in america on the rest of the year. I live the same way in the america as i do in the philippines. The cost of my living? Same or a little bit more here in the philippines.

The thing for people to realize is that COST OF LIVING is personal. So many of these videos are misunderstood and the people making them are attacked instead of thanked for making them. This is just information from one guy about what he's spending. It's not really the cost of living where he's at. If it were that, everyone there would be paying the same amount to live. They're not. These types of videos show what's possible. Like he said, there's people living more expensively, as well as people living less expensively. That is true no matter where you live in the world. I live in the Philippines and my cost of living here has been as low as $200 a month. That's actually higher than what may be the average cost of living for a small family here which I believe is about $160 a month. So as a single guy, I was doing pretty well and living quite nicely in this area for $200 a month. I've since hired three employees and my cost of living has went up in relation to that. I don't live in or near a major city, which does, I believe, allow me to live cheaper. But no matter where anyone lives, they have personal choices to make when it comes to their spending and saving. And depending on how much they save and how much they spend is going to determine their cost of living. The more one is intent on saving, the lower their cost of living is likely to be. And the more one is intent on spending, the higher their cost of living is going to be. One's cost of living can have something do with their income, but not always. There are very wealthy people living very much below their level of wealth, such as Warren Buffet. He's my hero actually, the man I try most to emulate when it comes to living at the standard of living (or below the standard of living) of those around me. I am definitely not interested in trying to outdo anyone. I want to be on the same level as my community when it comes to living, not living in a castle on the hill, or homeless on the street. Hi Cody and Izay, the water and electricity bill you had when you were staying in Cebu City was waaaaaayyyyy expensive. Were you staying in a condo? Our electricity is only 6k-6500. We have 2 aircon that we use during night time. We are 7 members. Our water was around P350-500.00. I live in Cebu City near the center. We are living in a residential area.

Cody good breakdown, yes living away from cebu city is cheaper by far. My monthly budget when i ma there is roughly 1000usd. where i stay is a simple conplex aand the people i have known for years. Rent comes to roughly 15,000. 00 peson utilies paid my cell phone i have globe prepaid and also apartment has internet included. as for food i eat out couple times a week. i shop for groceries roughly every 10 days. as for little items i pick up at 7 11 or another food mart. Everything i spend i account for and always keep a back up. you both are living away from the city and much nicer and more simple. I plan to visit there and stay where you both aare for a few weeks maybe a month so i will figure my budget for this in time. Now i wish to thnak you for sharing these vedios they are very helpful. travel safe and enjoy.

Yeah when I was traveling a lot it was actually about 1000 usd that I was actually spending. I think 1000 is pretty good tbh, a bit of a better lifestyle than our current, but also not super crazy.

Living a lil farther way from Cebu City and Mandaue City to either north or south of the island can really give you more financial freedom. But you need to get a motorcycle or scooter or bike because in normal times, traffic can be very bad during peak hours because any 4-wheel drive can be just as bad. However if you know how to manage your time you won't end up stressed up with traffic.

@@nigeljenkins9006 I really have no idea man. I have never tried to find work in Cebu. I use youtube and just actually started an online job I can talk more about in the future, but it isnt tied to Cebu. I will try to learn more about this so I can hopefully help people with it in the future.

@@nigeljenkins9006 For foreigners wanting to work in Cebu or the Philippines, for that matter, you need to have a work visa. This universal rule is common in most countries. But if you are your own boss or self-employed and doesn't need an employee to work for you and capital investment is not that big to require complex legal paper works, then you're good to go. I see lots of foreigners working here in Cebu. In fact, I used to have quite a few foreign officematesin Cebu before from different countries like USA, Japan, Germany, Nepal, Estonia, Pakistan, India, the Netherlands, Canada, etc. But they all had work visa and kept renewing it when their contract was extended.

Month Expenses Rent apartment or condo from: 75.00 to 250.00 USD Rent a house from: 200.00 to 1000.00 USD (very nice) Meralco: No AC 30.00 to 50.00 USD, With AC 75.00 to 250.00 USD (if you have on 24/7) Internet: 25.00 to 50.00 USD depends on where you live and if Fiber is available LPG: 15.00 US every 2-3 months Water non-drinking: 5.00 USD Water Drinking: 6.00 USD (for two) Food: 200.00 to 400.00 USD (Native or Western diet) Commute: 20.00 to 30.00 USD (Tricycles and Jeepneys depending on where you are going) Incidentals: 150.00 to 250.00 USD (Meds & Misc) Low end: 700.00 USD (Subsistence level in the province) High end: 2250.00 USD (Living well) :) And I think you need at least 6 months in reserve too.

It all depends on the lifestyle....where ever you are....it’s a balance..example in europe in Swiss water is free and electric bill for three months is about 130dolla...but other things are expensive...and so with the Philippines...not everything is cheap.

I have only used distilled water for my personal consumption (drinking, cooking, coffee, etc.) for a couple of decades now. I used to just get them off the shelf at the supermarket until I learned about leaching of nasty chemicals from plastic containers, hence I decided to distill my own water using a countertop water distiller 10 years ago. The distilled water does not touch any plastic surfaces at all or anything else for that matter but only food-grade stainless steel during the process and I store them only in glass gallon jugs. Most of these countertop water distillers are rated 750W @ 120VAC (US power standards). The full distilling cycle produces 4 liters (about a gallon) in 4 hours (1 liter/hour) which equates to 3 kWh (750W x 4 hours/1000) of power consumption. I believe Cebu City's residential power rate is around ₱10/kWh and so the cost to produce 4 liters (1 gallon) of distilled water is around 30 PHP (₱10 x 3 kWh) or around $0.60. Perhaps it's something to look into. It may cost a little more and takes some effort but it's very rewarding as you're getting the cleanest and purest water you can have. It's how nature cleans the water in this Planet (hydrologic cycle). It's like having your very own designer water.

I don't pay that much down south here in the Philippines I have no car not married don't have to pay a mortgage on my grandma's house cause it's old but I do have to pay for wifi cignal tv electric and water which I use a lot everyday and I order off lazada quite frequently LoL which I need to cut back on like only order on their 2 items a month. We love our area. Very safe and beautiful place. Not always quiet because we dont live in a subdivision. I know there are other expats here but I personally have no interest in meeting them lol. I did not come to another country just to hang out with people from my home country. I want to get to know locals.

Hi Thanks for your vlog.I visited Cebu city in 2018 and looked at some condos.I was honestly shocked to see the extortionate and sky high prices for condos that were often the size of a broom cupboard...one was 12,million pesos...£183,000...in the UK I could buy a 3 or even 4 bedroom house -a decent one-for that.

@@anaechevarria4015 Commercialised or not, I found it shocking that such a price was being charged for a condo the size of a closet in a third world country...in my own country or in the UK you could get a 3 or even 4 bedroom house for that. This was in the Ayala center at Cebu...but even outside Cebu, in a remote part of Mactan,the prices were also very high...it seems to me that this condo market must be exclusively focussed on Koreans and Chinese.

Good question. When you renew the registration of the bike you pay for the insurance. So that is a once a year bill, it isnt that expensive.

3000 is on the high side but be careful with expecting 750us$ as a reference for long term. Everyone can be busy for awhile on that amount but longer term you gonna need more. I think 1500 used per month is much more realistic.

@@michaelcrews2229 Here is my financial analyses over the past 28 months. As far as medical I don't have. Still looking for that. Hello, Many people ask how much it is to live in the Philippines. I kept kind of meticulous track of my expenses using a very easy app on iPhone called 1secMoney for 28 months. Surely I misplaced categories sometime, or forget things, or didn’t record non-cash transaction like a Lazada purchase but overall I think with total 4600 entries it will disappear in the error margin. The bottomline…..if I can keep it less than 100K, I am happy…..and that is with free house and car. First a profile: We are two adults with one outliving stepson. Me, 60, Dutch guy. My fiancee is 41, Filipina and her son 21, college student at Lopez University. We live in Eastern Laguna, in the “province”. We own our house. Two aircon, one in the sala which we hardly use and when used it runs at 27/28C. One in the masterbedroom that runs basically all night, maybe at 25C or so. It is an older one. We own our car. So, we only pay for insurance, gas, LTO registration, some maintenance. We own a motor fully paid cash. Same as car with same costs. We mostly cook at the house. I am a picky eater and mostly like chicken Thai, Indian or Indonesian style. We buy all our groceries and care needs at the Waltermart. And we don’t skimp on anything. I buy easily a 500ml cup of Greek yoghurt at I think 190 pesos a cup and eat half of one daily. I am Dutch, like my dairy. I like my Red Horse. Pretty much daily. I think basically I shop at Waltermart as I would shop in Europe. The occasional wine (300P/bottle) etc. Nescafe Gold coffee, any tea’s we like….you get the drift. In short I am not a price buyer and buy what I like. I do buy my fresh fruits and veggies at the local market. Chicken, bangus and the occasional brisket beef for Caldereta, I buy in Waltermart. Our total FOOD category bill is 35k/month. Our monthly bill on average at Grocery/SM/Waltermart/7-11 is 28kPHP. At the local market we spend 4K per month. The rest is spend on various other sources. So living a different lifestyle, with much more local food and less “luxury” items will save quite some money. I still need to find out how I can save here and dig 1-2 levels deeper into my groceries spenditure. Next up. Visa. For me every two months 2850pesos. Plus 50$ per year new ACR card. Total 1600p per month. Next up….Utilities. Electric about 3-5K/month, Water 500P/month Gas 200/month, one bottle for 3 months, Internet 1700P/month, Mobile phone prepaid loads 600P per phone times 3 = 2k/month. House taxes 6000P/year, 500/month LTO car/motor registration/emission test 3000P/year, 250/month House insurance 200P/month Car Insurance 1300/ month Cable TV Cignal 300/month Average 12k per month Gas for Car & Motor 3500p/month. We drive about 10-12K per year or less. Lets say 1200 liters of diesel at 35P = 42000 pesos/year Dining out….We usually go to McDo, Jollibee, Chow King type restaurants. The most “luxury” is like Shackies Pizza. But seldom. These restaurants are about 400p per two for lunch. Yellow Cab pizza 800p for two. We do this about twice weekly amounting total to 5500p/month Pets….we have three dogs and a number of cats. 3000p/month on dry foods and sometimes canned dog food. Sachet for the cat Clothes…..as we are dressed always very casually, shorts, t-shirt this is a minor expense category in the Philippines. If we spend 3000/month it is on the high side. I have one weakness that I like t-shirts from Mott&Bow from USA. Super thin and comfortable in Pinay climate. Each run 25US$. Other than that all cheap stuff. My Asawa prides herself to buy 200P or less dresses at TayTay public market. Medical….I need to maintain my monthly medicine for cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure. All well under control but runs me 4-5K/month for regular medical at Mercury Drugs. This is of course without any special stuff that may come up for which you need a savings. One time I get to endure a ruptured appendicitis which run me up a hospital bill of 140K. I would think you need a readily available savings of 500K for medical emergencies. And readily available means you can access it immediately in the Philippines. Philippines private hospitals may not be too bad, but they want money first than service. Dentist work is cheap, but if you need a crown per year or other dental work that’s another 500p/month Family/Stepson….I am lucky in the sense that I don’t have to carry a family support on a regular basis. Yes, occasionally we need to “borrow” small amounts here and there (borrow=give). My Asawa’s son is now in the process going out of college to start working. His support included supporting a single person household as he lived in another town while studying. His monthly support would run to 10K all included (foods, utilities, transport, allowance) So with that….the total is 77K. And that does not include the occasional online buy for a tool, or a bike, or whatever item you think you may need to keep yourself busy. Making improvements on the house, painting etc. Car maintenance....... And again, we are not excessive spenders in terms of going out, to fancy restaurants and bars. My asawa don’t drink, don’t smoke. I can imagine having no kids with asawa, no pets, no car, no meds bill like me, etc one could easily come by with 50-60K, plus rent. With $300 rent getting back to the magical $1500 number I keep hearing my US friends take as a guidance. But that is with no additional spending and being quite modest on the outdoor entertainment front. It is what they say….retiring cuts two ways. You may earn less and you spend more to stay busy. I need easily 20K on top of my 77K for costs to keep me busy….or travel to a nice beach and then stay in a 3-4 star place. For me living in the province my car is golden. I would not imagine life without one. I would feel so isolated. My motor is for local travel, but if distance bigger than 10km I take the car.

thanks for sharing your break-down. I hope you keep it real when things "open-up". Most vloggers do not. It's really deceiving. Like with your eating out. You were guessing, but you admitted to how much you spend on 1 meal when you eat out. Most share their core living expenses. Well that's terrible. People are going to think that's what they're going to spend when they go. It's not realistic. The only vlogger that did it right if you ask me, is Rod in Dumaguete. He took ALL his ATM withdrawals and shared those. That's reality (to a degree). It's not even fully "real" because he never did anything. So, Thanks for your minimums (during the covid lockdowns) Just think about adding on $20 minimum per day for motels when traveling. $100 each per day for fun (SCUBA or whatever). $200 airline tickets (2ppl, 2-way). Also estimating your scooter out to like $100 was good. It's not cheap. It's a poor diet also. Veggies are expensive and hard to come by. Enjoy the day!!
