@@TruckingTopicsToday Hello , you give alot of good information, Im contemplating on quiting my job and starting a trucking business like you,. Question : What do you do for medical insurance? This is one of the key elements that hold lots of people back. I know trucking can be lucrative if done correctly, and I can purchase my own medical insurance the same way an employer does when you work for them, but just wanted to get some input from a real owner op. Thanks in advance

I’m currently a company driver. I work intermodal in the Seattle area. I work 5 days, 6 if I want to and home every night. I gross about 1700 per week on a normal 5 day work week of mon-fri. My gross with a 6 day work week is about 2200 for the week with the extra day incentive pay. I have money saved up to buy a brand new truck free and clear. Would becoming an owner operator make a huge financial increase vs my current company position? I just got turned onto your channel so I haven’t seen many videos yet. Still trying to figure everything out. It’s a huge brain overload with not really knowing where to start and where to turn to for legitimate information. Thanks for the channel. I look forward to continuing to check out the rest of your videos!

I have many concerns but my biggest is that I have 4 minor accidents that was kept in house (Not on Dac report nor MVR) as of yet but was told that the company may or may not report it . My question is If it's reported will it stop me from getting contracts?

@TruckingTopicsToday
@TruckingTopicsToday 3 жыл бұрын
I can’t remember NY. NM was around $12. KYU is free I believe. Oregon is a different animal. You are allowed to go into Oregon I believe 10 times a year without having to get a permanent permit. In that case, you would stop at the first weigh station and pay a fee dependent on how many miles you would travel in the state. If you will be going to Oregon more than 10 times in a year, you will need to get a $2,000 bond, which will cost you $200, and then pay the permit fee, which I think is either $5 or $10.

Great video Tony. I am putting together a business plan since Amazon is opening a new distribution center in my city. What are the typical origin/destination lanes found in Amazon Relay...are they DC to DC? What is a conservative rate/mile that I can use in my pro forma financials? Thanks.

Where is the facility you mentioned? I need that information to give you better information and answer your question best I can. Also, are you looking to pull locally, regionally or all 48? If you are power only, you will run mostly DC to DC, and in one of those directions you will likely be empty.

Well, for sure I can tell you he is correct if your company is registered in California or Utah. If you are not in one of those states, do a Google search to see what your state requires. I will say that most states will not require the coverage in your, and my, situation. Thanks for the question. Be safe.

Correct. I’m a truck insurance broker and have several clients that haul for Amazon. They are owner ops and Amazon did not require WC. This was in GA so it could be different in other states.

I need a bit more information before I can give you some advice here. I do know that you can be an owner operator with Landstar and have a fleet, but they handle the driver qualification and recordkeeping because you were least onto them. But not every company that you are leased onto Well offer this option to you, unless you have your own authority.

Mainly because I got into it for about $2,700 down. At the end of the lease, it’s mine with no balloon payment. I would have had to come up with $18,000 if I financed it. I wanted that extra money in my operating account.

I am a local company driver. Looking to get my own day cab and run for amazon. How much does Amazon pay? Is it worth it?
@TruckingTopicsToday
@TruckingTopicsToday 3 жыл бұрын
There are too many variables to give you an accurate answer. Some of those variables are what area are you in? How much do you want to work? Can you keep up with compliance? What are your expenses? How much money do you need to ‘clear’ to make your bills and live your life? What kind of support do you have from your loved ones? How much per day do you need to make to cover your fixed expenses (expenses that you have whether your truck is running or not)? For me, it was worth leaving Landstar and getting my own authority. Everybody is different. I would do your numbers on $1.50 a mile with Amazon. Also, I always recommend that you have other brokers in your pocket. I suggest Convoy and Landstar (authorized carrier, not BCO) to start with as they accept new authority. Hope this helps.

Hey Tony, I am from India. Have been going through these trucking related videos and I am hoping to be a trucker in Canada soon (don't know how soon🙄), but anyway, what I want to know from you is that this $10,400 approx what you have mentioned is that a recurring expense? If yes, how frequently? And this is if you want to be a owner operator, right? How frequently do you need to pay the leasing company? What about the drug test, Is that a one time affair or need to be done every year? Pls clarify and share additional details that you think will enhance my knowledge. I know what you are talking about is specific to USA, but, I am confident it is going to cost me pretty much the same in CANADA as well. Hoping to hear from you soon...take care and stay safe.

Basically, engine technicians will put your vehicle on the dyno and let it run at full throttle. They're looking for your horsepower, RPMs, and torque levels to understand how much power your engine has - or how much it's lost.
