ATV's are extremely dangerous at daytime, nighttime is even worse due to visibility. I've known of people who got into accidents that landed them in the hospital for 3 months and that person was lucky they could walk again after not being able to walk for sometime after. I personally will never do ATVing or dangerous excursions on vacation from hearing so many horror stories, being in another country to need life-saving help in a worse situation is a no from me, haha. I don't usually comment but just want to spread the word of the dangers on vacation that not many people hear about because big hotels & resorts don't want to make it known that things like this happen all the time. Happy to see you came away okay!

I’m looking into moving to Costa Rica but am terrified of snakes and spiders and bugs.. What area were you in and was it common to see all of that where you were? Glad there were no crocodiles!

Hi, I am native from costa rica and i will try to explain it as best as i can...OK so costa rica might be small but i swear climate is so different everywhere and there are very rural places ,very cold places and veryyy hot places too,there are tropical jungles,dry jungles,beaches and there is of coarse the city (dont recomend San Jose btw,its the capital but only because of political reasons becuse for the most part there is nothing interesting about it) you should definitely do some reserch as too the best places to live and think about how urban,rural,hot,cold,beachy or whatever you want it too be...Costa rica is a super pretty plce just make sure you catch the right glimpse of it and reaserch for activities and hotels or airbnb and stuff.And about the crocodiles,dont worry you will be safe and far away from crocodiles it is very wierd to find one and if you decide to live in the central valley of costa rica or heredia you will most likely never see a crocodile..and same thing with bugs,depends on the place and the time you decide to visit. if you go to the beach there are beaches with A LOT of mosquitoes,and others were you wont see a single one,and on beaches you can basicly only find mosquitoes in the bug category so dont worry.if you decide to come to the city places bugs are just like in basicly any other countries,a fly maybe now and then,depending on the place you may have mosquitoes or not, and you also might find small reptiles like geekos but still it all depends on the WHERE.I think the most interesting thing about costa rica is how varied it is!For example there are beaches with dark sand and others with light sand,there are beaches with clear clean safe waters and others with darker or depending on the time of the year even muddy waters.there are also places that are too over populated and that kiinda ruins the spot but you can also really look for a beach far away with not many people! Like in any country there are cheap(very cheap, we are talking 30 dollars a night) and other really fancy cabins,houses,and hotels that are more expensive!Costa rica is a big variaty of stuff you can find anything,so yeah sorry for making this so long but i really recomend giving my beatifull country a chance and traveling to all the different places we have to offer. you can always ask me any questions you may have about the country or even places to visit and i will try to help! byeee

Hello! I am another native. I would say it all depends of where you plan to live. If its the city you are not going to see snakes or wild animals, only mosquitos and ocasional bugs. If you plan to live in a rural area o nearby the beaches you will have a higher risk of encountering snakes. I lived in Guanacaste for 3 years and only once a snake was caught inside our property, we called the firefighters for that (they catch the animal and take it to a safe place), scorpions in Guanacaste are also a normal ocurrence I was bitter more than once while sleeping 😢 so be careful! Hopefully this information is helpful ❤
