So much beautiful mid century furniture. Interior designer's tip. A lot of people are suddenly getting into MCM and asking how to incorporate a piece or two into their traditional furnishings. I always suggest a few things. First of all, if your sofa has a ruffle or pleats on the bottom - remove them and let the wood legs show. You might even consider changing or painting the legs. Secondly, I always recommend some kind of bridge furnishings that can tie the more traditional together with MCM. And for me that always means a fusion of some Asian. Asian furniture has such nice clean lines that it ties what you have together with MCM easily. I have used this in my own home. Bought a very large Asian cabinet and had it converted to a hideaway TV stand because I HATE the tv on the wall thing. Next, lamps are a great way to pump up the MCM look - often very inexpensively. I see a lot of really good MCM lamps in thrift stores that just need new shades, a little cleaning up and maybe some paint touch up. Lastly, art. Collecting art is fun - and you can buy original works at estate sales and thrift stores often for great prices. And always remember that modern art does not require a modern decor. Some of the most beautiful modern art collections I have ever seen are in very traditional and even bougie Beaux Arts and other style NY homes. One of these days, I am gonna start making videos showing how to start blending and updating your decor.

Interesting! I'm finding it's true in reveres, a lot of people who are into MCM are now adding one or two traditional things to break up the boxiness and create focal points. I agree about removing sofa pleats, it changes the look (and also lets you vacuum under it). Asian can be great for that fusion of styles, absolutely! I don't like seeing the TV either. Art is always a game-changer in a room, you can set or change the tone fast by changing the style and color you're using. I think you would be successful showing that in videos, I get the concepts but am not enough of a stylist to have access and room to show things that way

🌿 Thank you for this field trip ~ affording us a view of Mother Earth's precious but dwindling wild space as well as treasures wrought by dreams & passion made tangible by the ingenuity, skill & tenacity of her talented sons & daughters. Delicious Eye Candy to dream over. Love it when you give prices. I would have never guessed the stunning burl wood coffee table made here in the Pacific North West was attainable. Its impact on an entire home would be stunning from its rightful pride of place. You never fail to bring us a wide variety of beauty, information & fun. The accelerated footfalls heard on the stairs that would not end reminded me of how far your vid contributions have come & I am prouder of that fact than I have any right to be. Take good care of you. I send you & Xeno the brightest of blessings. BTW ~ Gobsmacked by the beauty of Spanish Moss. I've read about it, but assumed it resembled the moss we get here in wetter climates. Interested in how it compares with kudzu. This is your gift ~ I'm always intrigued & come away with a research list of new to me artists & ideas. I Thank You🌿

I love the outdoors too and like to show people what's left of more untouched places. Agreed about the burl table! Thank you so much for the nice words, I feel like I get a little better at this each time I try. Spanish moss is so cool! It is not parasitic like kudzu and doesn't choke the host plant thankfully. The fact that I can inspire you to more research and more ideas is really gratifying to me! I hope for my audience to eventually know what I know and be able to teach me in return

Good evening, George! Lots of interesting items there. Not a lot that caught my eye, though, as far as something I'd want. I saw some large keys that did get my attention, and I liked the Swedish decanter. I seem to be trying to simplify my tastes a bit, and there is no room here for anything else, either. Old, handmade, wrought iron/cast iron kitchen items seem to be garnering my attention of late. I'm renewing an interest in children's/teen mystery books, too. I'm still looking for some of the Hull "Green Drip" saucers, though. The antique/vintage beverage sets are still at the top of my list of things I like. That'll likely never change😆 Fun video!!! Thanks for the take-along!!!!!
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! I know this isn't exactly the style you seek, either. It's hard when you run out of room! I found my collecting got more refined and that my tastes got more defined, but I still manage to find room for something if I love it enough. I'm with you on the kitchen items, they are potentially practical (I use some of mine) as well as interesting. I like the kids' books too, the mysteries are a specific genre I always enjoyed. I had another viewer mention they had a Hull drip green ramekin but I'll have to look for you to find saucers. Thanks for coming along!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

@@TheAntiqueNomad Yeah, the style was a bit out of my interest, but there were still some interesting items there. Even if the style isn't my "thing", I still enjoy all of your premiers and videos! The house I used to own had 5000 sq. ft. in it, so I had a lot more room there than I do here. Mother and I both had to sell lots of things to combine everything, so that dramatically cut down on display space. Being here to help her is completely worth it, though. I definitely use the old wrought iron/cast iron kitchen items. There's nothing more reliable. I have several different series of the kids'/teens' mystery books. I might need to send you and email sometime and see if you might keep an eye open for some of those for me. If you come across any of the Green Drip saucers, just shoot me a mail. Those don't seem to be quite as plentiful as the mugs, though, so it will likely take a while to find any of them.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
Wow 5000 sq. ft. would get me in a lot of trouble! It's hard to downsize but you do what you must for family. I am a fan of cast iron, however I'm no cook so I mainly look at it. I'll be looking for drip green saucers, and any other stuff you mention!
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad 😂🤣🤣 Let me tell you...5000 sq. ft. can definitely get you in trouble! Six LARGE bedrooms, living room, parlour, two adjoining kitchens, an entrance that was the size of most "normal" bedrooms. Even the pantry was an 8' x 12' room...that house was a monster. It was 98 ft. long, 48 ft. wide, two-story front to back. When I started selling things out of it, there were people coming in pickup trucks pulling trailers behind them. This house is half the size of that one, so both of us had to let a lot of things go...and we're still packed to the brim. If you find any of the saucers, just shoot me a mail. I'm going to check to see how far along I am in a series of mystery books I have. If you come across any of those, I'd definitely be interested.

Hi again, George! I'm watching again, (I can pause the video and really browse😂), and I wanted to ask about some items you have there. Is the colourful fish, on the parson's table, a planter? I'll have to look to be sure, but I might have a planter like that. What is the glass fish figure on the top if the brass and glass stand that's sitting on the parson's table? That interests me, too. I spotted what looked like a pond boat in your booth, too. I'm always interested in those. I had to give this one another go. There was a lot to see, and I missed some things.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
It is a planter! I thought I'd shown you that one, shoot. The glass fish is a nicely done pressed piece (flying fish?) that doesn't have a signature or attribution that I know. The pond boat is cute, probably 1970s looking at the attachments.
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad OK, I thought that looked like a planter, but wasn't sure. I have a pair of colourful fish, (probably Napco), that, I think, were made for aquarium use, so I wondered if that one could've been one of the ones made for aquarium decoration. How old is the pressed piece? It interests me. If I had space for it, I'd definitely be interested in the pond boat, but I have several now, and I struggle to find space for those...I'd have a fit finding space for the pressed piece, but it does get my interest.

Very cool Brastoff pottery and glass in your booth. Being from Oregon could that table be redwood? I didn't see any burl knots in it. I've had a couple of those Staccato Lane dressers and the most I could get for a restored one was $1,500. Beautiful paisley glassware set from Culver for a great deal. I sold just the 6 tumblers for $95 in like 2 days on Etsy a few years back.

Hmm it is possible it's redwood rather than knotted burl, it was awfully thickly finished. I agree the Lane will sell on an offer at that price. I thought the tumblers were well priced too!

Hi George - I have an interesting question for you. I saw the "You're Drunk" flask and I cringed. I am a recovering alcoholic and while I love selling MCM barware, I absolutely draw the line at anything that makes being drunk seem funny. I will not buy anything like that. I also will not buy any war related items. I have a Vietnam era jacket for sale - bought it because it was brand new and dated 1967 and it was from a medical unit that was stationed in the NOLA area and never went to Nam. It belonged to a doctor. Do you have any hard limit items? Is it wrong to? I am just one of those old hippies who has never changed and have the same principles now that I did when I was 16 and hitting the protest marches. Just wondering how you feel about things like that.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I grew up with two AA alum as parents and yes, there is a different attitude when you have had bad experiences with alcohol. In the late depression era when the flask was made, the notion was, "Wow, we can have fun again!" and that reflects on the bottle. I was raised with a Serenity Prayer magnet on the fridge, so I understand it doesn't always end well. I truthfully have very few hard limit items. I don't think it's wrong to have those limits at all!--everyone should be true to themselves. But because I see my role as a self-styled "educator", I try to be open to look at anything because there are people who feel as strongly about wanting to preserve those things (even the bad stuff) and I want to try as much as possible to give an unvarnished view of the market for vintage. Personally, growing up around the military, I saw what the ravages of war really do to people, so I can't get into the notion of collecting them for myself...but my war buff cousin finds it all fascinating and wants to preserve it in hopes that we'll learn something from it and avoid more wars. All in the perspective, I guess.

What is the best way to display tall vases in a small living space open concept.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm...well, some people use a row of them on a shelf/projection/counter between rooms to define the space and add color while still keeping the open space! I have a friend who groups them all on a shelf on the wall opposite the staircase, that way they are a color accent on the wall and don't get in the way of the stairs but still give a color spot you can see from either floor of their rather compact space. Of course, a lot of people just put shelves in their windows and use them as "stained glass"!

Fanzines go way back. In 70s there was a ton of Punk mags. 60s had War mags. 50s had the nudist mags. Yes, l am sorry about name calling. But when you have a thorn who is responsible for stealing your money, treasures, words and other things; your temper can become explosive. It's just a game, and sometimes when the other person doesn't understand that, you have to deal with them on their level. I just love the old Ziefield like jewelry. If l ever get this situation in check, we will need to talk. Most people l have met don't behave like this childhood aquantince, who has twisted people like pretzels over events in my life that isn't any of their business. Thank you George for being upfront about your feelings. I am sorry for letting my heart go and let my feelings for my stalker overcome my love for Gay Community. My heart is always with anyone who is fighting for equality. Please forgive me. 💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜💔❤🧡💛💚💙💜🙈🙉🙊 l also dream of being a Ziefield Follies Girl. The dresses are to die for.
