DISCOVERING FLORIDA'S GULF COAST "VINTAGE MODERN" DESTINATION!
"Vintage Modern St. Pete" anchors the antique district in Florida’s Sunshine City, with 5000 sq. ft. of genuine mid-century designer goods, furniture, kitchen and home goods from the 20th century! We explore and shop the rest of this unique take on antique malls in this video.
We scan the antique district, spotting shops we’ll visit soon and seeing a display window with a great 1970s chrome sideboard as we enter. A bird named Sunny, a vibrant Paul Frankl sectional and a weeping Elvis show the light and fun side of the mall before we venture back to where seriously good vintage awaits.
This vintage center really has great furnishings to see, from crystal prism chandeliers and Adrian Pearsall chairs to Lane Laminates and a striking sideboard that mixes brutalism with tribal design! The mall is filled with stylish furnishings representing modernist trends from Arts-and-Crafts to Norman Bel Geddes deco. Two outdoor spaces are full of grand statues and designer patio furniture.
Fun vintage smalls abound as well. Two cases of Christmas, a space full of vintage kitchenware, Lucite purses and costume jewelry specialities are on display. We find modern and tribal art, Jere and Erte wall decor and a classic Saarinen tulip table aflame with orange swung glass in this groovy mall!
Here are some more of the items we see along the way in this tour:
Lightolier lamp, vintage office chair, cigar box, Royal Wedding plate, Blue Ridge, Kilim carpet, Royal Haeger, Majestic lamps, Arcoroc Arches, Danish teak, Fenton uranium glass, BeeGees record player, mechanic’s chest, ship’s lantern, compacts, mermaids, etc.

My formula for making money over 40 years was based on the premise that people both ate and drank. I focused on the kitchen and barware. The sales of both never let me down. My first stop at estate sales was always the kitchen, then I headed for the basement and the built in knotty pine bar. Your tours are just amazing! Thanks.

I really favor those areas as well! Kitchen stuff sells because people can justify it as "useful". I like everything it seems, but those are closer to "needs" than wants. Hope to see you in Bardstown soon

Lived in Indonesia for six years, and I can tell you a bit about those Balinese figurines @ 15:40. They are modern but the reason they look so distressed is not deliberate, but something that happens over (a short period of time usually within 12 months) time when taken from a tropical climate. They are mass produced, I have some at home and although they are nice to look at, are not worth much. I can assure you they are not old or in any way antique.
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that insight! I noticed with Indonesian carved mahogany furniture that it tended to crack when sent to the west coast of the US, which gave it an aged look but was just due to climactic changes, so that makes sense.

Because I got her other set and so much more when she passed..u are always a wealth of knowledge and bring back so many memories for me.

I have a set of Franciscan Desert Rose that belonged to my grandmother. (It's the more desirable stuff from their early California production days.) Unfortunately it's not my style at all, so I'm glad to hear there are people who still adore it. I'm much more of a minimalist at heart, so I haven't yet figured out what to do with it. Right now, it's in a box on my living room floor--not very practical. I hope someday it will find a new, loving home here in FL. It's too much to ship, so I'll have to find someone local who can appreciate it. I have many other of my grandmother's things that better align with my personal aesthetic, but the great thing about design is that there's something for everyone. Thank goodness!

I didn't know that! I always assumed they were British as a kid because their accents seemed more English to me

That small jadeite swirl Fire King bowl in the set in your video is not the bowl the one in your video is the 6 in the one that is worth a good amount of money is the 5-inch Bowl which is worth around $300+ by itself

You're right, I should've measured it! The 5" is the scarce one, I guess less practical at the time so not purchased as much

What are some great sites besides eBay and etsy to maybe understand and learn more of things that are antique and vintage. From a to z because we have all different kinds of stuff..

It's old fashioned (and you'd have to source it online), but if you get an old Schroeder's Antique Price Guide from about 1990, the info (and some of the prices) will be about in line with today. It's a good way to quickly get general info about a lot of stuff

Hi George! I have the exact same leaves signed with the same black marker in the same way "AH 1980". I assumed this meant Artisan House. Will you please let me know if you're aware if any C Jere pieces were signed this way?
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 3 жыл бұрын
Jere made pieces and sold them under the Artisan House name, I've had them with Artisan House tags on them. There may be a Jere ink signature somewhere else if you look closely

No social distancing? K weird. I have post prohibition whiskey bottles embossed with federal law forbids the use and resale of this bottle on them. In amber and clear, cork tops and screw tops. Are these of any intetest?
@TheAntiqueNomad
@TheAntiqueNomad 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, they're social distancing for sure, especially now...in fact, masks are now required in St. Pete. I find that if I'm holding a camera and doing my thing, people give me a wide berth so I've had plenty of distance generally. The federal law is mainly to prevent bootlegging, some people collect certain ones but mainly for the shapes or labels, most post-prohibition bottles aren't worth a lot

Im glad youre doing these videos. O do have some cool shaped federal bottles, lots of plain janes, but some cool ones. Im from Clearwater out of state but will be moving back to crystal river from new england early next year. I hope we talk more often. Maybe work together.

That really is a lot, I'm afraid KZbin puts those in automatically and I don't have a lot of control over that. I know most are skippable, but I think they do it to get people to pay the $10/month to get the Premium subscription where you don't see ads at all.
