Tbh, I was very sceptical about this show, in light of the absolute slop we have been getting during this era of bad quality hyperproduction of popular IPs, but I ended up pleasently surprised. I felt the story was very compelling and kept me intrigued. Hope it gets renewed for season 2.

Say this for the cheesy, low-budget Sci-Fi Channel telefilm adaptation of _Dune_ the novel: it has some pretty elaborate costumes. The cultural environment of the Dune-niverse represents a highly stratified society. Therefore, it makes sense that the upper classes would dress in an ornate way that would distinguish them from the lower orders - much more than the drab and simple garb that characterizes the latest Dune productions.

I felt that the costumes were hit and miss. I definitely recognised the couture influences, but i felt they were trying to mimic the likes of Elie Saab and failed. The queen and princess sometimes looked they were stepping out for a modern day debutante ball or prom, no? The Sisterhood costumes were a better success, I appreciated their simplicity and felt that the Acolyte's minimal grey dresses made sense!

I am not. The costumes are beautiful but the Corrinos are nowhere near as opulent and powerful looking as the Corrinos in the books or the movies or even the cheaply made mini-series. Where the hell is the golden lion throne and sigil?

I was astonished to see Emily Watson placed in such a shockingly unflattering costume. The people I watched with couldn’t remember Valya’s name and called her Fat Neck Lady. The tight crewneck collar was a mistake, and her headpiece was the least impressive on the show.

One thing to note(because it’s not made clear by the movies or show, just inferred) is that technological and social stagnation is a reoccurring theme in the series. Without getting into spoilers it’s part of the DNA of dune for there to be periods of forced stagnation

@Costume_CO I really wanted to like the show, but I just can't. The show seems like they tried to put two seasons into a half season. All of the actors are great, even the kids, but great acting doesn't make up for a bad story. I think it would be a better show if it were centered more on the Bene Gesserit and what they are actually doing in the emporium.

@@babysisdolls3336 I heard on the podcast that they are actually very wide legged trousers. The panel that drapes across the front makes them look like long skirts. Since I heard that I have been watching more closely to see if it's visible, but I can't tell.
