As a owner of several axes I must say that Council was on my bottom of the list. I didn't knew they are made in the USA until recently. So I been looking at all of KZbin videos and I am sold. I need just three more and they one is this axe you at holding but don't tell my wife. Thanks for posting this video and looking forward for many more from you. Its guys like you who invest your time and money to put out information like this on KZbin that makes KZbin awesome to search and view. Thanks to all.

You're absolutely right about a time when the U.S. was the innovator when it came to axes. All the pattern names are still in use by foreign manufacturers, Jersey, Dayton, etc...And as you mention this axe is exceptionally well made with its haft, thin and flexible out of the box.

Austin, my late uncle, used to have an axing like this when he was about 45yrs and me less than 10. This is a super ax and you display great technique and stamina. Felling axes are to tiring to use. Well done Bro. Great video!

I have a Velvicut felling axe and mine came with a sheath with strap and buckle (not the mask). Maybe if you contact Council Tools they will ship you one. This full-sized Dayton head really powers through the work!

That axe bites deep without sticking. Nice! Also helps for the feller to be stronger than week old laundry!

Say Heah Sean, For my B'Day I bought some new tools and gear, I got my Busse Combat, Badger Ergo said my Steel Heart Ergo, my Ergo Battle Mistress will be done in Dec. I'm also waiting on my Battle Horse Sheath for my Modified Mad Hatter Machete which I had them put a Dual Grind and a White Handle to match my Modified Attitude, I also got a Piggyback from Eric at Mashed Cats, Aces. I also got the Benchmade Arvensis 119 and my Bokor Coye Ridgeback a natural match. And Ofcource my 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe with the Heavy Duty Sheath and Sling. I also wanted a longer haft ed Axe, So since Hultafors Bruks makes the Husqvarna's, I bought a All Purpose Forest Axe, But I had to send it back, Because when they were forcing it, a hot piece of metal flew into the eye and fused itself, You would think they would Grind it out, But instead they shimmied the wood, so I sent it back and exchanged it for a Ochsenkopf Axe OX 620 H 1257 plus the difference. I'm familiar with Iltis Oxhead, I has a custom House Axe made with a Iltis Oxhead head on a shorter haft. I also was surprised when the mask on it was a cheap azz vinyl mask, Infact mine wasn't even completed, I could put my finger through it between the rivets. But now my 24"Council Wood Craft Pack Axe came out Simply TiT's, Beautiful. But my Ochsenkopf Axe has the Rotband Plus system, It's a Steel Plate then screwed into the wood to strengthen it, it also has a steel sleeve for if you miss, a nice touch. Geez, I wonder what Santa's going to bring. Laterz, my friend, It's always nice to see you, If you care to see my Piggyback Sheath and my Mad Hatter go to the Google Plus and search Paulie 4X and tell me what you think Ok. Job well done. Thanx You.

Do the Dayton velvicut axes have any cheeks to them or are they basically a flat grind bit?
@johnsuarez1404 Жыл бұрын
Is it easy to sharpen? It looks like a micro bevel on the product page and I hate those. But this axe seems to be the only one that suits my taste otherwise, without having to remake the whole axe upon arrival

LOL I was gonna say that "fit & finish" go out the window the first time you introduce an axe to wood. Looks like a real champ there. I'll end up getting one.

I have their double bitted axe, but my older brother wants something only with one edge lol. Probably safer for people with less experience in axe handling.

You said, the axe isn't really needed these days. Well, I beg to differ. Politicians wanting to shutdown the power grid and get control, well they control the electricity so we'll have to go back to using the axe now! And demand for axe will go up! 🇺🇸 🇮🇱👍 Say do you still have that axe? Do you still stand by your word?
@jorinhood80355 ай бұрын
Hi Shawn. Do you still recommend this axe or is there something else that has surpassed it for you?

I have to admit I like the way they were grinding them a few years ago. Not sure I like they way they leave the forging scale on them these days.
@FearNoSteel7 жыл бұрын
+Dick Burns I guess there doing a brute to forge look much like the gransfors to give it the appeal of handmade quality. Honesty I would prefer a clean finish and to make my own history with it. I don't buy jeans with holes in them.

My Velvy felling axe has a very wide bit, which is yours bit angle?
@FearNoSteel7 жыл бұрын
The same angle but ive polished it a tad on some strops. I have also since resharpened to a more acute edge with a file to get more performance in my later videos. Ill do a tabletop video soon bro.
@jonugalde12757 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response man. It's a good idea to reprofile these axes, I'm doing the same with mine. My axe came with an angle wider than 22°. I use 15° for clean wood 17° for difficult one, >22° dissapointed me.
@FearNoSteel7 жыл бұрын
Jon Ugalde experts need sharper angles but we have to understand that it's a trade off. If a mistake is made with a powerful swing the damage is huge to the axe. Now think if your selling axes with the most acute geometry and now you have to deal with all the warranty claims from missused axes And people saying that your axe sucks because it chips. That's why they will come with a more robust geometry so they can be used by a wider audience for all types of jobs, woods and users across the world The experts should have no problems tuning the geometry on these wonderful axes to get the most performance.
@jonugalde12757 жыл бұрын
Big Brown Guy I agree you if we talk about entry axes, but we are speaking about the best of the best axe Council Tool can offer you. The reason in using tool steel in axes is you can produce thinner axes with same or higher robustness. There is no point in taking so much care and work to produce a tool steel axe with so wide bit.
@FearNoSteel7 жыл бұрын
Jon Ugalde you have a valid point but the steel behind the cutting edge IS thinner on these axes versus anything currently being produced.
