Growing up, in the 70s and 80, my brother and I frequently had BB gun fights. The only rule was "no shooting in the face". Didn't matter if it was a Daisy lever action, a Crosman CO2, or a multi-pump BB gun, none of them ever broke skin, they just stung for a little bit.
@clifbradley2 жыл бұрын
We had those too. We wore metal trashcan lids for armor and a cheap Halloween Jason mask for face protection. The rule was no more than 2 pumps. We played in a housing development and inside the giant sewer pipes they were putting in. One time I did a running jump into one except I didn't realize it was a T connecting pipe and went out the bottom of the T. I had brought my legs up in preparation to land on my heels and shoot back up the hole. But I fell 12 feet onto solid clay. Broke my coccyx. We didn't want to get caught so my friends took all of our stuff away, then had me hang onto a plastic ski Bob tied to their bikes and pulled me out. Then went and got my grandmother who lived about 200 feet away. She had heard me crying amd came outside and saw them hide our guns and armor. The go get the ski Bob, she had no idea for what until I came out. She thought a BB got me in a vital organ. Then she spanked me with a broken coccyx and I cried bloody murder. Afterwards she felt bad. But she also threw my BB gun in the pond behind her house. My friends promptly went snorkeling to get it. As soon as I got better we went back to wars. Then my friend took a BB to the knee, our other friend got one stuck in his forearm. I had one in my bicep. We put oil in the barrel to make them shoot faster. Made us tough kids. Pulling BB's out of your skin and bleeding everywhere. We carried first aid kits on our bikes. Cops saw us all the time. As long as we weren't destroying property we were fine. One even helped us yank the BB out of my friend's knee and taught us to use hydrogen peroxide and oiling the barrel.

Why? Its more liquid filled in the cylinder, and less surface area for the liquid to evaporate into gas, so its both less volume of gas and lower rate of changing into gas for rapid fire shots. Mathematically it will be fastest when the cylinder is half full for most use cases, but I've found after about the first 5-20% of shots its the best, which is probably due to not being able to completely fill the volume in the cylinders)

Having multiple metal bbs in your face (Or popping your eye) would stop a lot of people from attacking you completely or at least long enough for police + other people to intervene And for those that say, "It wouldn't stop me," while I don't recommend testing the bb-to-face theory out, I just want to say that you may be operating your pain tolerance by a bit. @@bakermayfield6hunnitdan6er24 So I don't think you could class them as bb's anymore; more so pellets. I imagine the purpose is to either improve accuracy/ penetration or expansion within a target much like with regular ammo. Use case would vary from hunting small game, maybe self defence etc. Now I got really curious, I have a crossman R1, so after my comment I bought some .177 H&N Hornet pellets. They don't fit in the mag but you can barrel load them, a bit of a pain to keep reloding. But anyway I did some testing of my own to see if it would go through a tshirt and carry on going etc. Surprisingly enough there is a huge difference between the hornet pellet and the regular steel bb's. The pellet would often travel through 30-50% more material than the standard steel bb. And would easily penetrate materials that the regular steel bb couldn't. I had occurances where the brass penetrator would keep going through material even after the lead "body"? of the pellet stopped before hand. Super interesting results, considering my R1 shoots a bit over 400fps. Using a serious air gun would show the full potential of this ammo. My conclusion being; while I couldn't test the penetration of skin and bone like in the video. I'm convinced a air rifle shooting over ~1100 fps or more with this hornet ammo would shred right through that ballistic skull.

@@bakermayfield6hunnitdan6er24 A lot of people use BB/pellet for small game. As a kid I used a pump up crossman BB and 2 out of 2 tries I dropped rabbits instantly with what is very low speed BB compared to today (in fact I've got a cheapo CO2 semi-auto that shoots just as fast). Right through the eye and bunny went night night. @@adabsurdum5905 Yeah, probably a similar affect to armor peircing rounds (hard steel core of smaller diameter, so kind of like a needle, but with the added benefit of still having the rest of the bullet too). I bet you could even make armor peircing air rifles for level 3 plates, it would be similar concept using light weight wadding acting like a sabot round (force = bore diameter^2*pi/4*pressure), so with lets say 12ga bore size with a tiny little .177 steal or tungsten needle (so very low mass, but all that force behind it) at roughly 5,000 psi from the PCP, now that's going deep! Also I agree, even getting sprayed in the face is going to make me cover my face and start running, haha, definitely wouldn't want a skull fracture or penetration like he was getting, I'd be calling it quits if at all possible by then!

You should try "dieseling" the pellets for your break barrel. Fill the pellet skirt with Vaseline or a squirt of any goopy flammable material. When the piston slam down the compressed air get hot enough to ignite the goop and aaaaaaaa way your pellet will scream. Just don't do it too much (like a few dozen shots in a row) unless you want to replace the seals.
@rnxkillerx2 жыл бұрын
I have a .22 air rifle that I do that with, I forgot who makes it but it was the one you could buy from Walmart at the time. It came with a .177 barrel and the .22 barrel so you could opt out for either one. I went with the .22 as I already had a .177 break barrel. For my dieseling use I just used some hoppes gun oil, put a drop or 2 down the barrel itself where you load the pellet, load the pellet in and then I take my finger and coat the seal and skirt of the pellet, work every time.

@oldhillbillybuckkowalski2 жыл бұрын
Dieseling my spring piston brake barrel Beeman RS 1000s is exactly why the big spring that pushes the piston forward broke into 4 smaller springs. I actually dieseled it unintentionally the first time, I had some older pellets that had a bit of corrosion on them so I sprayed them with WD-40 and kind of dried them with a paper towel. I had never heard of dieseling a pellet rifle (20 yrs ago, first spring piston pellet rifle) and had no idea that anything was going to happen from a bit of WD-40 in the skirts of the pellets. It was just after dark, set up target to shoot using porch light. Fired about 3 shots, all was normal. 4th shot heard a definite BANG!!! and thought I saw a muzzle flash. Called my son out, told him to watch for a muzzle flash. Fired 2 shots, nothing. Was thinking maybe it was my imagination, Fired one more and BANG!!! And my son said he saw about 8 inches of thin blue flame flash from the muzzle. Wow!!! So I grabbed a couple small apples and fired one confirmed dry pellet at an apple, one wet dieseled pellet at the other. Definitely showed significantly more damage than the dry one. Thought I'd discovered some new keys to the kingdom type shit. Fired about 4 or 5 more with the magical WD-40 and then suddenly cooking the gun felt weird. One time would require a lot less effort, next time it was normal. Then noticed that the spring would occasionally not catch and I would have to cook it several times before it would catch and I could shoot. Then it noticeably lost power and would not even diesel anymore. I disassembled the pellet rifle and found the now 4 piece self adjusting spring it now had so I reassembled it and put it away intending to buy a new spring at some point and fix it. Got busy with life and 2 years later drag it back out and decide to research what might have caused the spring to break on KZbin and that's where I learned what I had been doing was Dieseling a pellet rifle and several spring piston air rifle experts on separate channels all said the same thing, that doing this will eventually break the spring because as that spring is pushing the piston forward the flammable substance is superheated by compressed air and the resulting ignition forces the piston backwards causing the spring to coilbind just behind the piston and as a performance engine builder I knew what happens when a spring under pressure is rapidly forced into a coilbind, it breaks. Two of the experts then preceded to demonstrate Dieseling and then disassembled the broken pellet rifles to reveal a spring that looked just like mine. Now if dieseling a Nitro Piston pellet rifle can cause any damage other than burning the o-ring that seals the barrel/breech assembly, I don't know, but not having money to waste I'm not gonna experiment with my Nitro Piston pellet rifle to find out, especially now that I have learned that A. Any velocity over supersonic tends to drop off rapidly due to the inefficient aerodynamic affect caused by the diabolo shaped pellet/skirt design. B. The Diabolo design causes inconsistent accuracy when pushed much past supersonic velocity ( this is why competition pellet rifles shoot at much lower velocities than supersonic) C. That period of travel that is called Trans sonic as a projectile slows from supersonic to subsonic causes a momentary loss of stability inducing a "wobble" that an aerodynamically efficient projectile with a good length to diameter ratio can recover from and regain stability but a aerodynamically inefficient projectile and especially one with a short stubby length to diameter ratio will not recover from, or at least take more time/distance to recover from can destroy accuracy at a particular range. All these bad effects, to me anyway, outweigh the cool factor of a bang and more velocity that will quickly be lost anyway and the risk of damaging the pellet rifle. If I need more velocity/energy/noise I'll just grab an actual firearm and get all three without any of the drawbacks.

Airguns firing a .177 or .22 pellet over about 800fps are to be regarded as potentially lethal. You can't just give a 1250fps hunting airgun to a child, not just for the risk of accident but also to avoid them dropping your neighbor's cat in their enthusiasm. The gap between a hunting pellet rifle near the speed of sound and the Red Rider BB gun you grew up with is a very large one. My Hatsan 125 hunting air rifle achieves a foot-pound impact rating of 1/3 of a 1851 Colt revolver. For a break barrel airgun, that's serious power.

I think it really depends on the gun. My cousin had a single barrelled bb gun (can't remember the name) but it was pretty basic. We would shoot at trees, walls of an abandoned building, bricks and sometimes even chickens. Shot while being close the wall/brick would get a hole. Once he knocked off a chicken and the chicken was paralyzed and the bb was stuck in its skin. We used to think that it won't hurt but after watching that chicken get paralyzed, I stopped being arround him while he 'target practiced'. This was many years ago and now he could be seen cleaning his Beretta A303 12 gauge in his crib the every other day.

@5:00 A note from personal experience... Any pellet that uses a polymer or plastic casing WILL foul your riflings VERY fast! I had a .177 Umarex Fuel that I tried many different rounds in. It was my first modern air rifle, using a gas piston break-barrel action. I put just ten rounds of this copper core round he's showing here, and all the sudden I had what looked like HAIR flying out of the suppressor! It was the shavings of that polymer casing getting caught in the riflings and blown out into the suppressor. It took me stripping the rifle down and disassembling the suppressor to get all the garbage out of it. I tried one other plastic cased round and had to do it all over again. These may work well in a rifle with no suppressor built in, but not for a rifle equipped with one.

@@jakegarrett8109 Yep but CO2 will probally deplete soo fast with over 600 fps
@jakegarrett81092 жыл бұрын
@@dudus9287 Yeah, I only get like 40 shots with a small 12g CO2 tank (manual loading action), in short barrel config with it degassed to around 300-350 fps I get about 270-320 shots. It would be even more exponential gas amount used for anything higher than 600 fps (because its already spitting some extra liquid and vapor at that point, with a 22" barrel). I think you could probably hit 700 fps but you're talking 30"+ barrel so you'd need bullpup config so its not rediculously long, and you'll need either twin cartridges (can handle higher instantaneous flow of gas and liquid), or a big paintball tank. Also with them depleting CO2 faster they become much less efficient as the cartridges start freezing up and that lowers the pressure and more liquid instead of gas comes out (which is why you start seeing your bullets dropping fast if you rapid fire). So yep, diminishing returns with the higher velocity, CO2 is pretty low pressure so you're already basically at its limits around 600 fps anyways (and that's quite exceptional speed as it is). You'd want to move to HPA for around 5x the pressure and then you can see performance gains.

Nice video, truely deserves a 👍🏼🙂 Things I would add: check with a nail or something really thin how deep did the pellet go in, I would also shoot at the back, and front of the skull with the pellrt gun only for comparison to the side shots, and also would check if an ordinary lead pellet could also penetrate into the skulls ffom the side, back, and front. With the Co2 bb gun I would first shoot slowly semi auto for achieving maximum power, and then would do the full auto demonstration. Other than that, perfect! 😎

The pump action pellet rifles from when i was a kid are definitely lethal. You would have to pump it 10 times, but the power behind it would be on par with a .22 short.

I’m surprised the MP40 worked. My CO2 guns just release all the CO2 in the first mag or don’t fire at all in the cold (below 40F). The MP40 is definitely one of the higher quality built full autos from my experience.

@@steellion1803 there's no set amount of damage somebody can take before they keel over and die. Boxers use gloves to distribute the force across a wider area to prevent them from killing each other. The parts of the body damaged, the amount of adrenaline in a person's blood and the amount of time somebody goes without medical attention also affect someone's ability to survive being shot, regardless of the amount of force carried by the projectile. If a bullet or pellet of any size hits something vital like an artery, it can eventually kill anyone if they don't get medical help.

I had an indoor tactical range in the basement boiler room of my old apartment. It had a 7' ceiling with metal ducts and pipes going all over. It also had some wood storage closets made of 2x4. Using CO2 pellet pistols, the .177 pellets would go about 1/2" into the 2x4 if they were hit. Seeing that I knew if you shot soft flesh with them, it would likely go right through. Shooting a head with that big pellet rifle, would be the same as stabbing someone with an icepick.

I remember having an air pump pellet gun that I used to go squirrel and rabbit hunting with....I would always put 12-15 pumps on the gun and never had trouble dispatching a rabbit or squirrel with a pellet...kind of makes me wonder if they've nerfed some of those air rifles today - it's hard to imagine they'd still sell a pellet gun that the user could get that much energy stored in it.

pellet guns are strong and dangerous, bb guns have plastic balls are either shot by manual 1 pump or electric motors pumps automatic or green gas for realistic which is very good and co2 which can be weaker or stronger but i think less reliable

@@Noooo23523 mine was able to shoot either bb or pellet, had a little compartment you could dump the bb-s into and they'd magnetically go "into battery" for each shot, or you could manually stick a pellet in there. Guess the big difference was you could manually pump as much as much as would hold before the lever broke or the air tank would hold....I remember getting up to around 23 pumps before It started feeling like I'd break the lever if I went further and it was definitely dangerous at that level.

There are some airguns that can break cinder blocks nowdays, check out AEA Zeus for example, they make it in .50 cal and .72 cal (those are PCP guns though, so you have to recharge the air tank with a PCP pump, external tank or PCP compressor after it's empty)
