Could Israel's war in Gaza spiral into a regional conflict? w/Chris Hedges

Over three months into Israel's genocidal assault on Gaza, there is little hope the carnage will stop anytime soon-and with each passing day, the danger of Israel's war on Gaza spiraling into a larger regional conflict increases. The devastation in Gaza is unlike anything seen in the 21st century, but Israel's military strikes-like last week's assassination of Saleh al-Arouri, a top leader of Hamas, in Lebanon-have not been limited to Palestine alone. At the same time, armed resistance groups in Iraq and Syria have launched hundreds of attacks on US bases, confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah has created a simmering northern front along the Lebanese border, and Yemen's blockade of the Red Sea has created an international crisis for shipping and trade. Should any of these fronts open into a new facet of this war, it could lead to the unraveling of the entire region, with a very real possibility of a showdown between Israel and the US against Iran. It was the US that facilitated the handover of Iraq to Iran's influence. Gasem Suleimani and ayatollah Sistani were instrumental in making that deal with the US in order to destroy secular order and establish a sectarian one .Iraq was never ever part of old Persia, yes it was colonized by Persians but eventually the Arabs took it back by destroying the Sassanid Persian empire.

It just happens to be a Muslim country and happens to be located in the northern ME area.

If you like, go look up a Wikipedia article on Iran and check what is stated as Iran's population estimate ( 87 M )....in that sense you would be right to object to my estimate. Also you probably know that there can only ever be statistical estimates of a region's population count ( for obvious reasons ).

I respect Mr. Hedges but disagree with him on the point that Arab regimes never supported the Palestinians and only offered lip service.. What about the Saudi King Faisal, particularly his 1970s stand and the oil embargo in retaliation for the west unequivocal support for zionist Israel. What about the Saudi King Abdullah peace plan (year 2000) which called for a viable Palestinian state in exchange for full normalization and peace with Israel in return for the 1967 borders.

The most under reported fact I’ve encountered is that the Rockets are fired 20 to 30,000 of them have killed 43 people over 10 years is my understanding. The second most under reported fact I’ve spent a month in Israel is that it’s a Jim Crow Society very racist. More so towards Palestinians, but all non-Jews. Thirdly, the textbooks in schools have been wiped clean of Palestinian, geography or history and of course these schools are segregated..

I am perplexed about the absence of a discussion of Israel's nuclear capabilities in this discussion. Israel has missiles that can reach major cities throughout the Eurasian continent and the most advanced battlefield nuclear weapons in the world. It has never signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, for what it has been worth. What did Netanyahu mean when he said we will flatten you in response to the idea that Hezbollah would fight. Also, wasn't there an anti-personnel plutonium bomb used against Kurds i😢n the 1970s that causes people to explode or implode without property damage? Sorry if I'm wobbly on details here, but I would think that such weapins eould hsve been horribly fine-tuned by now, about 50:years later.
