I used a level 86 Skitty in Alpha Sapphire because I had used it to get experience using Disarming Voice while hoard hunting for a full shiny team. Delcatty loses a lot of Skitty's charm when it evolves so I didn't want to evolve it.

I've often considered doing a May playthrough. But because her actual Hoenn Pokemon are so sparse, and I can't cheat Pokemon in, so I usually sub in a Marill, Roselia, Swablu to give her a full team that matches her aesthetic.

Not gonna lie but I still think the contest-centric episodes may have been the first real instance of when the anime stopped being able to sustain my continued interest back in the day, having already been a major fan from watching so much of the Original Series and movies beforehand. I owned and played the original Ruby on the GBA myself and could never really get fully into that new feature of Pokémon Contests compared to the traditional battling even for just an optional side-quest, so I guess when the anime started devoting a lot more episodes to May and eventually Dawn participating in contests it didn't make it as easy for me to stay invested in the current series as a whole or be able to relate as much to the goals given to them by the writers. No offense to May or Dawn as characters as I'm sure they were wanting to give them something to do than just being new tag-alongs for Ash while also showcasing one of the newest features from the games, but it just wasn't my thing like it was for them, and it definitely wasn't the thing that got me into the Pokémon anime and games to begin with. Though if I thought I was losing interest in the anime then it's still nothing compared to the changes that were to follow that contributed even more to my lost interest in the anime over the years, namely the replacement of the English voice cast and eventually that extremely polarizing art style shift that started with the Sun & Moon series.

I remember doing a playthrough of Omega Ruby in my videos and couldn't find half of May's team. So, I added Altaria (1. because of the trailer for the games and 2. May did befriend a swablu but never caught it), Dustox (it was a failed Beautifly and I had to catch a silcoon after failing the evolution), and that cosplay Pikachu that's mainly a freebie. I even did my own version of the Grand Festival in that game.

That was very good Joe! But I do think that it would be more challenging if you had played only with May's Hoen Pokemon. Skitty, beautifly, conbusken, and for more coverage, allow Squirtle too. I don't know if it would be possible this way but the idea was just that, seeing if it was possible. Even so I must say, this way probably it wouldn't be possible, but your idea showing now and then the anime is gorgeous, I really like it! The way you did May's team is really balanced you know, and sure it would be worth a try. Congratulations, Joe! As always I 'm cheering for your success! You deserve it! Couple of reasons: I wanted to try and keep the contests separate from the Nuzlocke itself. I did go through as May, but still wanted to kind of complete pokemon Ruby. The real reason though is I'm lazy. I used Ash as my rival because I had already used a Hoenn Ash sprite before, so it was really easy to import into this game. But for Drew and Harley, I would need to get/create new sprites which is always the most difficult part for me tbh.
